Defensive recruit wanted ...

Submitted by UMMAN83 on

Yes, it has been a challenging week.  The D is in question and needs experience and more talent.  What recruits eyes are going to light up when Michigan comes calling?  A commit soon could put this week behind us.  The O is going to be a juggernaut.  I don't think for a minute a Frosh is going to come in next year and turn this D around.  However, a select group could break through and add needed depth.  Who will it  be?

My first choice is Zettel.

No. 2.  D. Grant

Go Blue !!!

Zettel is definitely important, but I like Walls or Crawford.  And I think there is a better chance of us landing either Karlos Williams or Clinton-Dix than D. Grant.

The fact that Zettel hasn't committed yet scares me a little. I guess anytime someone says they are a big fan of a school, and get an offer from them, but don't committ anytime soon it makes me curious. But then again, I've never been recruited for anything in my life and I'm a very easy guy so that may just be me.

And pray every night before you go to bed that he goes Blue but he is not the most important defensive recruit. Best case scenario he backs up Van Bergen or Black which is nice and promising down the road but impact on defense, immediately, is what we need. A ball-hawking safety (take your pick) is most important. Sure a shutdown corner would be fantastic too but unless Woodson's clone is coming through the door, a huge impact at corner is unlikely. Although they are not developed yet, we are building nice depth at corner and return Woolfolk and Floyd next year which should be solid while we are still lacking that Ed Reed, Troy Polamalu type safety. The last great safety I remember having is Marcus Ray and that was a while back. Great safeties can make a lot of other guys look and play better while covering large parts of the field, not just the LOS or one side of the field. I know Ha Ha is the highest ranked of the safeties but I say go hard after whichever one can really run and cover a lot of ground.
