Defense of the Defense

Submitted by ThePrivileger on

-6x three and outs by our offense
-Quick scores by our offense
-Time of possession probably around 2:1 in favor of IU
-Two offensive turnovers giving IU great field possession

Not saying our defense doesn't have some big issues, but holy fuck everyone. We're obviously hoping to lean on an effective, efficient offense to carry us through some poor LB play and youth in the D line and secondary, but how can some of you throw the defense/GERG completely under the bus like this? Of course you can look at that stats and see OMG yards given up, but that's what you have to deal with when the offense is either scoring quickly or going three and out. An opposing team is going to put together a few decent drives when given enough opportunities, and today's turnovers obviously help.

Today, I saw a defense that was able to weather a few storms and force field goal attempts when they could have easily given up TDs. Even after considering the one long run we gave up, our D came out with halftime adjustments that limited IU to only 10 points. It's by no means perfect, but whether you would like to admit it or not, there are still some growing pains on both sides of the ball. We may currently have more potential on offense than on defense, but don't sit there and say we'd be so much better if our defense wasn't teh suck.

And yeah, we'll have times this season where we sit back and say "WTF -insert LB's name here-" but the RichRod Era of Michigan Football is still a work in progress. So enjoy the ride, cheer your ass off, and have confidence that we are on the right track.

I'm still really upset that Lloyd Carr almost lost the 1998 Rose Bowl. I mean, Leaf had a throw to the endzone at the end. That's horrible defense right there.

E-FACT:

If the defense doesn't hold Indiana to FG's the two times that the offense handed them the ball deep in our territory we lose. So, YAY DEFENSE.

Anyone on this board calling our own kids "toast" should get the barbed-wire-baseball-bat treatment.

What I don't like is a grown adult bashing a kid who's competing his best. Criticism is one thing. Insults are another. Get a fucking life, and stop depending on these kids to provide you with any meaning.

Grow up. Stop trying to censor me.

So is "Toast" worse than "Death"?

I just think it's funny how you nerds get so bent out of shape over some negative criticism...pull your panties out of your vagina and stop being so butt-hurt about it.

You didn't criticize anything. You insulted.

I feel bad that sports can only bring you anger. Michigan won, and you'd rather run to a computer and complain about the manner in which they won than celebrate the fact. After 3 wins last year, it's completely fucking mind-boggling.

Actually, I don't. You guys are trying to suppress my right to free speach. You don't agree with my opinions on certain issues and you want nothing more than to silence me because it's not what you want to hear. It's actually quite a childish response. Therefore, GROW UP.

The neg reps mean nothing to me.

It isn't a disagreement with your opinion, it's just the manner in which you present it. Saying a player sucks may very well be valid, but at least be able to present an independent thought as to how the situation can be approved. Pointing out faults alone is hardly constructive and worth discussing.

I've actually explained it in other posts...Cissoko is not good in space. Coverage is bad and tackling is lacking. He should sit until he gets it together. His backup/replacement played better on deep balls today & tackled better.

Cissoko has played poorly for four weeks straight...today he got benched.

It was not my intent to incite a riot on this forum but after one of my first critical posts, I was negbanged into oblivion. I just know that from now on, every time I post something that doesn't tow the company line, I'll get neg repped for it.

I got banned from creating new diaries because I brought up the topic of people bitching on this site about spelling and GRAMMAR! This is a football blog and you should be able to say anything you want (short of threatening somebody).

Guys - did I mis-spell anything?

You do have a right to free speech and the owner of this message board also has a right to decide whether or not that speech is appropriate on his board. My guess is he will not.

But, yes, go outside and yell about how much BooBoo sucks and your speech is protected. Congratulations on being born in a country that's free enough for you to fully express how much of a jackass you are.

Also:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Brian is NOT Congress. He can do whatever he wants.

I'm pretty certain Brian meant DEATH semi-ironically. The fact that certain readers of this blog are too stupid to get it and think that DEATH is an acceptable nickname for an upstanding, if untalented, kid is not his fault.

I was with you the last time this happened, but this time I'm not. He didn't say anything besides what we've all seen: Cissoko is not playing well this season.

To say that a player's name should never be spoken again: not cool.
To say a player isn't playing well: that's part of the game.

(That doesn't make him not a douche, it's just well within his rights as a fan to say that.)

I object to insulting a 19 year old kid who is playing for our enjoyment, on our team, for no pay. As a former student-athlete at Michigan, I can say how hard it is, and I didn't need to work nearly as hard as Cissoko, nor did I suffer anything like the scrutiny he faces. He deserves respect, no matter the quality of his play, and I hate it when people treat these kids without respect.

That's exactly what I mean. "Toast" != no respect in my book. Saying, "OMW, he can't cover anyone!" is not the same as saying, "Man, what a douche. If he'd stop slacking all the time maybe he'd make a play so I can avoid being angry and punching a baby tonight." If that's the way you see it, so be it. I understand where you're coming from, and I appreciate it, I just don't see this specific situation being an example of what you're so opposed to.

dude, were talking about a 20 year old kid who is in college and chose to play DIVISION 1 FOOTBALL! I'm pretty sure he doesn't care if you're sticking up for him on blog site. he chose this level of scrutiny, now he has to deal with it. God forbid he ever get an f on a paper and the professor tells him it was terrible, you aren't going to be there to stick up for him. not everyone one is a sensitive pussy like you
