STOP F-ING DEFENDING TRESSEL!!! COME ON

http://www.springfieldnewssun.com/springfield-oh-sports/ohio-state-buckeyes/local-buckeyes-defend-tressel-1145905.html

“It appears to me there’s a smear campaign going on to make Ohio State and Jim Tressel look bad,” said Larry Lokai, a member of the Urbana City Council who also is well-known as Buckeyeman.

You have got to be kidding! To Reiterate:

He found out his own players broke the f-ing rules of the governing body that makes the rules of the sport that he works in.

He failed to tell the school about said f-ing broken rules which is yet another rule broken.

By not telling the school which would subsequently tell the rule making commission which would subsequently suspend the players for the sake of letting said players play he broke yet more rules.

Then he f-ing broke MORE rules of said governing body by LYING TO THEM that he didn't know anything!!!

HOW THE F DO YOU DEFEND THAT!

At least a small minority of the Buckeyes have somewhat of a clear mind: http://menofthescarletandgray.com/2011/04/25/jim-tressel-should-resign-or-be-fired/

Good lord, where did you get 15%?  The 10% that gets thrown around all the time thanks to Kinsey is already a gross exaggeration

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_demographics_in_the_United_States

furthermore, while i'm not condoning his language in this setting, if youre going to be the PC police, you might want to refrain from language that could be construed as mysogynistic/sexist like saying the NCAA "lacks balls" in the same thread

"Lacks balls" isn't exactly a sexist term. It's conveying their emasculated state, as opposed to a potent one they're supposed to take. I would argue that it is saying that they once had that genital feature, but that particular part has been removed, leaving a biologically ineffective organ. If you took it another way, or offensively, I apologize.

BTW the 15% apparently came from a biased source, so I'll revert to Wikipedia numbers and go with 7.5ish%. So halve the number before and get 2250.

Edited to add that I've said I usually don't have a problem with words, until they're actually turned into slurs, like by saying "he's gay" followed by "he's a faggot"; it's not hard to see the correlation there.

if you want to use wiki (or these: http://gaylife.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=1/XJ&zTi=1&sdn=gaylife&cdn=people&… ) numbers, youre going to have to halve it again, to 3.8%

so people with balls are better/more potent than those without - and thats your argument that its not sexist?

i'm not offended(by pretty much anything), but you know, glass houses (even if his stone was bigger than yours)

Wikipedia went with the IU numbers that said 7% women 8% men. It's under the latest survey on there.

And it's not a value judgment, it's saying that one is potent, and the other impotent. As in, one can take down Tressel (can have a "baby") and one cannot do the same. I'll say that maybe this isn't the best imagery, sorry to anyone offended, but to compare the two statements just isn't fair (as you've acknowledged). One was made without singling anyone out, or, IMO passing value judgments and one clearly was.

As a side note, I do agree society is way too quick to say something is offensive; stuff like the first post here is how it probably got that way.

Please excuse the use of language and my transcedence of the boundaries of "civil discourse" but let me know what you think of OSU fans and their coach or whatever when three of them (just OSUfans) jump you for simply wearing a Michigan hat and shirt in a bar watching the 2010 Iowa game of all games(which unfortunately we lost) and I had not said a word to anyone. Not to mention in a bar in South Carolina where im stationed for crying out loud. I realize this is no excuse but pardon me if since then I have had a little bit of a "hatred" for them. Also, explain to my kids why dad couldnt take them fishing because all his knuckles on his right hand were broke. Lastly I fight for the freedom for you two and everyone else on here to be able to say what they want when they want. So, when what happened to me, happens to you, let me know how you feel...and then talk to me about being civil.

So...you hate OSU, and thus they are homosxual? That's a non-sequitur if I've ever read one.

Evryone (or damn near everyone) here hates OSU: it's a Michigan blog. Other than yours, I have yet to hear homophobic slurs towards them here.

As a side note, in preparation for Marine PLC I've been taught that servicemen/women need to be held to a higher, not lower, standard of conduct. You could be the reincarnation of Patton or Lejeune, and saying things like that would still be unacceptable.

Whats funny about you're reply is not once did you mention anything about my encounter with OSU fans...must be nice to only address one thing and totally ignore the other. Thus, giving you the right to be judgemental...ok, you got me i give up I should go straight to hell for using homophobic slurs and should be discharged this second for expressing an opinion. Look to put an end to this crap for good...you're right i am wrong I should be banned and sent to hell because you're so awesome and I am not. MY BAD!!!! Hit the gavel its over.

calm yourself for a second, me using (like you said) homosexual references as a means to insult them and actually saying they are gay...you are right...are two different things and i should have chose my words a little better. Also, I am not seeking sympathy...like i said in the same thread i hold no ill will against those guys now because as you can imagine they got what was coming to them...they are military as well and believe me it hurt their careers to say the least...all I am trying to get across to you is that dont expect me not to be a little upset about it thats all...all this crap aside man we both can agree on this (i think). What Tressel did is extremely wrong and i like some others hopes he gets the punishment he deserves...its just a little more personal to me because as it was referred to earlier his fans (possibly like the ones who jumped me) think he is a "saint" thats all man. Not here to be a protagonist man, just love UM Football and obviously hate OSU.

but I am not buying that Tressel didn't speak with someone at OSU about this stuff.  I think it's clear enough now that Tressel did take this pretty seriously based on his having contacted numerous people.  In a situation like this, doesn't it seem likely that you would just walk down the hall and talk to the AD or compliance dept. instead of relying on email?  This may be impossible to prove, but maybe Tressel will get his conscience back and decide to tell what really happened.

I'm sure his position that nothing is ever TSIO's fault and that the world is out to get TSIO will keep him in office as long as he wants to stay there.  Besides, people in Ohio see TSIO as the be-all and end-all of everything that is good and right about the entire universe.  They learn it when they are kids and it is constantly reinforced throughout adulthood.

Asking the average TSIO fan to see how corrupt and dirty "his" school is is like asking a dog to meow; it isn't going to happen anytime soon.

Was when the guy from 11 Warriors yesterday, cited the academic achievements of TP - in an effort to defend Herbstreit's comments that OSU should stop recruiting Clarett/TP types.

Last 10 years, three biggest OSU Starts:

Clarett - cheater, should have been ineligible

Troy Smith - took money, doesn't seem as bad, but still got OSU probation

TP - Rental Cars, Tatgate, etc

It is all a trend, and I am glad that Herbie is willing to note it publicly.

I buy into the theory that difficult times doesn't build character in those who don't live by principles- it reveals their character.  This is true for Tressel and the Buckeye fans that don't see the truth in all this.  I wouldn't expect them to react any different. It's just cool the whole country can now see what I've known for a long time because I live in Ohio and have seen them in action for awhile now.

In defense of Ramzy , I think his point was that Herbstreit's statement about not recruiting players "like Clarett and Pryor" was dumb.

A lot of schools recruited Clarett and Pryor.  There was nothing in either player's past to indicate trouble.  Their academics were fine.  They didn't have criminal records.

Herbstreit's comments are very easy to make now, but at the time, there was nothing to indicate either would be any more trouble than any other 5 star recruit.

So the vaunted Buckeye basketball and football team both cheat?

Where is Gordon "Little Sisters of the Poor" Gee in all of this?   One of the highest paid individuals in academics, and he lets rampant cheating go on under his nose?  And this subject, on his campus, draws no comment? (snicker)

Are you aware this is Tressel's second time getting caught using ineligible players?  It happened on a huge scale and Youngstown State, but he "didnt know"........like he "didnt know" Maurice Clarett never went to class during his Championship season.....

Good to know there is, in fact, no reason to respect OSU......even when they win.

Ain't nuttin' gonna happen to dem Buckeyes cuz they is THE Ohio State University!

I love the denial.  They know the downfall is coming, and they think it won't happen because they're Ohio State.  Punks.

Howard Stern will be a born-again Christian long before Jim Tressel gets fired. Ohio State will put up with the punishment - even if more severe because they haven't fired him. St. Tressel of Columbus is too popular among the fans and alumni, and I have to believe that tOSU administration was gauging alumni and fan reaction to decide whether to give him the axe.

The only scenario I see that would cause JT to leave - more or less on his own - is if the punishment causes some form of long-term damage to the program (i.e. after any sanctions are lifted). In other words, it's only what happens on the field that will matter.

Again, just my opinion, but nothing I've seen suggests that his job is really in jeopardy, regardless of what talking heads say. It's only the fan base that counts, and they've got his back.

justingoblue

April 27th, 2011 at 11:55 AM ^

They could have done it by saying Tressel "failed to create and maintain an atmosphere of compliance" but they've already charged him with a far more serious violation for the same offense.

In punishment terms, it's like not charging someone with assault after a barfight leads to a death. I'd just prosecute the murder/manslaughter charge, but what the hell do I know?

A show-cause penalty doesn't compel tOSU to fire Tressel. In effect, it only prevents a new school from hiring him. It would be harder to keep him around, I agree, if the order includes a restriction on his ability to coach in games or recruit. So, while it will make him radioactive, Buckeye fans would claim only to be basking in his divine aura.

justingoblue

April 27th, 2011 at 11:58 AM ^

I hadn't realized that was only against new hirings, I thought it was affecting overall employment. Either way, he would be radioactive, and I would doubt that OSU would want to be the only institution in history to employ someone with an order. They'd be better off hiring some guy on the street at that point; the baggage he'd be carrying would be incredible.

It is said to think that our society has been so passive about the dishonesty in people.

When politicians such as Nixon or Agnew lied, they had the decency to vacate their posts. Now a days, you can lie about housing markets and the financial volatility of the economy and get appointed to even better positions without even a slap on the wrist.

The point of this is that Tressel is still seen as a man of character, even by those same people that say he should get fired( Herbstreit+Spielman of ESPN). This is what character and honor has been reduced to in our society; the acceptance that most people with honor lack morals and ethics.

In thinking what tOSU administration would do, I have to think about the brand of tOSU. In my mind, and it may seem prejudice, tOSU is all about athletics and their football program is their flagship. In my opinion, I find it difficult to think that tOSU will fire Tressel, after all in spite of his lack of ethics or morals, he will be judged by today's standards.

elaydin

April 27th, 2011 at 12:29 PM ^

The counter argument would be that one shouldn't define "Morals and ethics" within the NCAA's framework for such behavior.

You can follow the NCAA rules and not be "ethical" (Saban).

You can violate NCAA rules and be ethical (Jim O'Brien at OSU).

The comment about OSU is just fanspeak.  OSU is a $5 billion business.  OSU football is a $100 million business.  No university is "all about athletics".  Don't make football out to be more important than it really is.

I just find it hilarious to believe that people actually believe that the whole point of why he didn't tell anyone was the fact that he was so called "protecting" his players. Yeah it had a little to protect his players... But he was mainly protecting his job and trying to win football games no matter what he had to do. He didn't care how much he broke and bent the rules. As long as he won games he didn't care. He cheated to win... and everyone knows...

CHEATERS NEVER WIN!!!

I hope he stays and we kick his cheatin ass this year in the Big House. That wouls probably piss tsio fans off enough to fire him anyway. I feel like we definitely have unfinished business with him after all these years. We gotta kick his ass and ruin his legacy forever.
