rumor or not it's kept him from coming back to ann arbor for a long time.  I heard an even uglier Rumor that RichRod lost to toledo

How is it possible for two unrelated items, and electronic device and a transportation vessel, have made such an histori impact on Michigan football?

I hope someday Michigan finally plays LSU in a home and home series.

Michigan showing up in the home blue jerseys or a night game in Tiger Stadium would be so cool.

Sadly, it will likely never happen with David Brandon at the helm.

I'm not convinced that the sailboat thing is the only reason he's not here.  It may have prevented him from getting in contact on that particular day, but I don't think he'd have been hired in any event.  There are too many people here (it's not just Carr) who hate his guts.

The seamlessness with which Miles transitioned the program from the no-nonsense, bordering-on-miserable atmosphere Saban bred to the loose, happy air that permeates LSU today is among his greatest successes.

Saban breeds a miserable atmosphere? How does he get so many good players then?

College is a lot better place for a "miserable" disiplinarian than the NFL.  Since the longest anyone is ever there is usually five years, he can keep recycling players before they get totally sick of him.  The best part of this for the coaches is that they all treat their seniors better, relying on them for leadership.

Just when players might be getting sick of a coach like Saban, they become seniors and the coach elevates them to a level above the rest of the team.  They get treated special because it is their senior year.  This not only keeps them from getting sick of the coach, but it also gives them fond memories to take away after they graduate.

A lot of people don't like the style, but it works.  Also, in Dixie, kids are taught to respect their elders.  If a Bama kid bitches to his parents about Saban, the parents are more likely to take Saban's side and tell the kid he should have more respect for his coach.

Both styles are valid because both coaches win.

Wish we hired Miles instead of RR.

Will be rooting for LSU tonight (although I would be rooting against Saban aka 'The Great Satan' anyways).

Loved the Article. Thanks for posting, as I wouldn't have read this otherwise. I'm glad to have Hoke at Michigan, but Les Miles seems cut from the same cloth. I regret the way things worked out (or rather, didn't work out.)

I have only been following the Wolverines for the past 20 years and this blog for the past 3 so I don't know a great deal about the real history of UM football and their coaches. I have heard numerous allegations against Miles here but no one has ever verified that any of it was true.

For me, I have always liked Miles from his quirky sense of humour to his proven coaching ability. I am happy for Les and the Tigers this year and hope they blow Saban and the Tide out of the water tonight!

On a note in response to the post from gopoo I would say that I was (and still am) a RR fan and couldn't have been more excited when UM announced him as their head coach a few years back. In hindisght though...I have to admit now that I agree with you. It probably would have been better for eveyone (RR included) if UM had hired Miles rather than RR. Oh well, we have BH now and a sugar bowl win. Onward and upward!

I was very excited about RR too, especially after the frustation of the Carr/Debord/"Why aren't you letting our future NFL QBs throw the damn ball" offenses.

However, the more you read about Miles, the more you hear just how much he wanted to be in Ann Arbor.  Then you look at how he maintained the LSU juggernaut, the MNCs...

Howeva, Hoke had an awesome first year, and I love his recruiting plans (the line, the line, the line!).

to keep him away. Unlike Craig James allegedly killing 5 hookers, we really haven't helped perpetuate the rumor(s). It is beyond just a casual attempt, he has to have unfriendly fans in high places.

Before the 2010 season, he was somewhat on the hot seat.  His 2 loss national championship team in 07 (don't even get me started on that) was followed by 8-5 and 9-4 seasons.  Now look where he is.

It's interesting to look at his whole career.  He was an OL coach here from 1987-1994 under Bo and Moeller.  That's 5 Big Ten championship teams and 4 Rose Bowls.  I never realized before he was here that long.

was a great guy back in school, and lots of fun back when he was a GA and assistant at Michigan.  Les, ignore all the old school idiots who harbor anything against you, you are still a Michigan Man and you aspire to uphold that image and tradition, which is all any of us Michigan men can ever hope to do.  It is a standard that we strive to attain, knowing full well we will fall short.

GOOD LUCK AND BEAT THE SNOT OUT OF THE 'TIDE AND NICK "THE DEVIL' SABAN!
