Deep Thoughts, by Profitgoblue - A Thursday Tradition??

Submitted by profitgoblue on

Introduction - I was thinking of starting a weekly thread for people to throw down random thoughts, questions, considerations, and general what-have-yous that would not normally fit into another existing thread.  I'm not sure about you all, but I often have a question or idea that is not worthy of a separate post but something that people might like to read/ponder nonetheless.  Please let me know if this is a good idea (or bad) because I am fully aware that some (many?) may not give two hoot(er)s about what I'm thinking . . .

Nevertheless, here's a few things I've been thinking this week, in no particular order:

1.  How great is it Denard is now known across the college football world simply by his first name.  Mention "Denard" and most people know who you're talking about without further description.  You know you've made it in the world if people know you by your first name alone.  Big time.

2.  Its been a few days since Lloyd Brady has been prominently featured on the MGoBoard and I miss him.  Lloyd, where are you?

3.  I've got a feeling that this game against Spartie is going to be a blowout, a big letdown for one side.  Personally, I'm thinking Michigan is going to hammer Spartie.  Of course, I have no real reason for this line of thinking - I just have a feeling that Michigan is going to get a few stops on defense early and its going to become the Denard show.  If Michigan can get to the half up 20ish, it might be all downhill after that for Spartie.

4.  I love Brian and his UFRs.  He's made me a better man.

5.  I'm worried about wearing my maize Michigan shirt out and about on Saturday afternoon.  I DVR the game and watch in the evening after my toddler has gone to sleep and it never fails that someone says something about the game I am recording.  Do I simply stay in the house from 3:30 until 9pm when I start watching?  Do I go out without wearing my lucky shirt?  Or do I go out with my lucky shirt and risk finding out the score or some info?  This is my biggest fear during the football season . . .

Now for those that haven't seen them, just imagine those popping on randomly on SNL...the repetition and randomness of Deep Thoughts is what made me a fan, not any one individually.  Well I do like the clown genre where the guy doesn't realize why he hates clowns but thinks maybe it goes back to the time he went to the circus and a clown killed his dad.

1) I've rocked the Maize and Blue around town all week in anticipation of this game.  I have been called many, many things.

2) When does MGoBlog get a new banner?  And would a win this weekend prompt a replacement for "hope is a many dreaded thing"?

3) Most bat-shit crazy coach in America: Les Miles or Lane Kiffin?

Wait? WHAT?!?  Why on earth would we change the banner and tagline?  We are undefeated with this banner and tagline.

Even if there is only a 0.000000001% chance that the MGoBlog banner and tagline is crucial to Michigan victories, should we really risk it?

when everybody thinks they need to start a thread dedicated to their own, highly unique ideas that tend to either be a) not as funny to the public as they were to the OP, B) a regurgitation of 9 other threads or c) something that should be a comment to another thread.

these type of posts are often moved over to diary where they either i) receive a fanbase that will follow it weekly/whenever or ii) die bc nobody cared

I avoid the Diary at all costs because I never assume that my thoughts are worthy.  The idea was to see if people were interested and then ask the elders if it was worthy of a Diary.  This is supposed to be fun (even if its not funny to everyone) and a place where the thoughts/ideas are not appropriate for a separate thread or a comment to another thread.  But I'm not married to the idea if others think its stupid.  I'm open to suggestions.

BlockM Day sounds awesome!

Seriously though, I didn't think his point was that it would be a place to discuss only his thoughts, but he would post his and people could comment/post their own. I just like discussing things.

I spied two rather heady-looking grad students in class the other day (at a school not particularly known for people liking, or even respecting, college football) looking at the ESPN front page picture of Denard on a laptop, loudly debating if he could hold it together to win the Heisman.

The universality of this kid astounds me.

who passively follows cfb and occasionally takes in NFL is now watching UM games every weekend. he used to mock me for my UM fandom given I was in Louisiana but now he watches religiously... texts me for the matchup, what to expect, time, and left me with the following last night

I will be pulling for Mich this weekend, I like watching that Denard Qback play, he is really entertaining

1. It's great. Denard.

2. I miss Lloyd Brady as well, but the photoshop wizzes that I work with have made MANY a piece that i'll have to upload away from work and share

3. I think that the game will be close, but I do see M getting a big lead. Think last week before we fumbled the snap on the 1 - We would have gone up 21-7... and there's a good chance the route would have been on. I think we'll get a 2 score lead this week, and we'll see what happens

4. I also love the UFRs, the details are amazing to me, so much happens on any 1 play that you can't appreciate them all at once. I loved Denard's huge run against ND... but the clip i keep watching is Omameh pancaking Te'o. I might not have spotted it without the UFR

5. I live in East Lansing, and it's been only maize and blue all week. Monday we had to dress nicer - Navy slacks and a Yellow dress shirt. Yellow polos and Jeans the last few days, and my M Coaches Polo tomorrow, followed by a drive to AA.

Can't wait for this game.... Everyone in attendance, get loud Saturday

is a major benchmark.  You know things are big when at that point.  It means that the performance is backed up by the cool factor.  It cannot be stopped at this point.

1 & 2.  Definitely agree!

3.  I have a feeling one team is going to start off with a huge lead... as in, two unanswered touchdowns in their first two possessions.  I hope that team is us.  Whether the other team fights back is anyone's guess.  This game is almost always close, but it's also almost always unpredictable.  I feel these rivalry games (MSU, OSU, ND), are often close when they shouldn't be (usually), and sometimes not close when they should be.

5.  Wear your shirt.  But if any stranger looks like they're coming to say something to you, stick your fingers in your ears and go, "La la la la la, can't hear you."  At least, that's what I would do.

And came across this stat:  Of the last ten meetings between UofM and MSU, the oddsmakers odds on favorite won 8 out of the last ten games.  Hopefully, the bookies are right about Saturday's matchup.  GO BLUE!

1) I'm scared to wash my 2010 student shirt now that I have a washer and dryer because I've worn it to every game thus far and it's obviously been working.

2) Do the football players have a favorite spot to eat? Has anyone seen football players eating at certain places (just curious, not stalking).

3) How long has everyone on this blog been here? I'm particularly interested in the regulars like BlockM, BlazeFire, Magnus, Blue in South Bend, bouje and the like.

4) I wish I had played soccer growing up and had a wicked kicking leg so I could have actually tried out for a walk-on kicker spot and felt that I could have made a difference.

5) I wonder if my obsession over Michigan football is going to interfere with my future job as much as it interferes with my homework, papers and studying habits. I mean, how much time does MGoBlogging "waste" for everyone else? It's like March Madness, but longer and more obsessive because your team plays every week for 3 months.
