I didn't say "raking in." Reeling in is a process. As long as he doesn't go all Old Man and the Sea and reel in a skeleton, we'll get a catch.

I don't understand your position though. Sometimes I stand up and scream "Why can't we get a dang WR in this school?" I mean, honestly! None last year, none this year...you think someone would look at that and sense the opportunity.

I coached DeAnthony for a short time in high school...great kid, heck of a talent and would be a great addition to Michigan if he totally commits himself. Would be a win for us...

I would absolutely LOVE to have this guy on board. He had a very nice freshman year and will only get better. It's time for DeAnthony to come home. He made a bad decision to go to Tennessee in the first place....

I'm not calling out anybody on this here blog but I am calling out some of the people on the Rivals board at the time he pulled the Night of a Thousand Commitment stunts: if he hadn't been a receiver whose name starts with the prefix "De" would perhaps the joke have been taken in a different spirit by the masses calling him a seeker of personal attention?

He became a personal favorite of mine for the different-school-every-hour thing. It was so clever that 90% of people who follow recruiting didn't get the joke. It wasn't, by the way, about getting himself attention, but about calling out the recruiting-following world for spending 13 months up his body cavities with a flashlight to see if his feces was trending blue, green, red or orange. I thought he made that abundantly clear with the last video showing all the boards' responses. This was a guy who turned the monitors around on a world that I still think goes a little too out of bounds. As a fanbase who prides ourselves on being more clever than the average mega-program, I'd think that would be more apparent to us.

I was rooting for him to kick ass in the SEC. If he came back here I'd probably have to get his jersey, then hound him worse than any recruiting analyst ever did until he agreed to give us weekly webcams.

However I'm guessing the likelihood of that is pretty low, since State makes transferring from a school like Tennessee easy and we don't. Easier for a freshman but still it's hard to get courses to transfer.

Wherever he goes, I'm a big fan of the guy. If he goes to one of our rivals, well not all of their players are assholes. If he turns out to be an asshole himself, I'll take the heat.

Well said. I was a bit surprised at the backlash that he got for doing this. It was funny, and well done. He had some fun with a process that you could tell was fun for him at times, but annoying for him at other times.

He hardly came across as a diva, and even went out of the way to engage some fans in a very jovial manner on twitter.

I always thought him going to TN because of the WR coach (he coached Charles Rodgers!) was a mistake (First, you don't pick a school based on a WR coach), and I'd be incredibly happy if he wound up in Ann Arbor.

Arnett is afraid to get hit.  One good pop will take him out of the game mentally.  He'll be so worried about the next one that he'll short arm any ball over the middle.  Bubble screen or beat the guy deep, ok.

I think he'll end up with Sparty.  They graduate everyone this year so he would have a year of practice to become Maxwell's top threat.  He's a diva.  He transferred high schools on bad advice and seeking attention, so it would be no surprise for him to transfer colleges.

I guess give Arnett a look, but this feels like that ship has sailed.  Wish him the best if he looks around, but I don't think he'll wind up in A2.

I wouldn't take him.  He would have to sit out 2012 and by then our new receivers that we sign in this class will be ready after already working with Denard, Devin and Shane.  I don't see the coaches wasting a scholarship on someone that is just going to be sitting on the sideline.  Compared to whomever we sign to finish out 2012 may have a better opportunity to contribute immediately.

"This was a guy who turned the monitors around on a world that I still think goes a little too out of bounds."

I think you're attributing a bit more sophistication to an 18-year-old than is warranted, but regardless of his motivation, I have a hard time envisioning Brady Hoke & staff looking at his committment/announcement performance art and concluding that he's the kind of kid they want on the team.

Charlie Baggett, the coach at Tennessee, was a QB at MooU in the 70s.  He was the prime reason that they went on probation then.  I remember Charlie having to return a Buick Electra, and other things he received from using the credit card of a Spartoon booster.  The photo of Charlie in the papers after he had to return the car was a joy to see.
