DeAnthony Arnett Leaning Towards USC

Submitted by gater on

It appears that D Arnett is leaning towards going to USC.  If we can't get him, I think that's a good place for him.  Even thought I would love their recruiting to take a hit after their scandal.

RT @DArnett13: Just to let everybody know USC is my top school and we gone leave it as that ..... Trojans stand up

Anyone know how they will compare to last season in terms of pure personnel? They lost a few more games than usual last season, are they expected to improve from that, get worse, or stay the same?

Last year they had a really young defensive line that got demolished against Stanford and Oregon, and Carroll for some strange reason annointed Barkley as the man from day one (and managed to ruin Aaron Corp's confidence in the process).  Still they would have been 10-2 if they if they'd just had halfway-decent, experienced quarterback play (they just failed to move the ball against Washington and Arizona despite numerous chances to win those games).

This year they have some depth issues on the o-line (Carroll failed to recruit the proper numbers the last few years) but the talent is solid.  With an improved Barkley and the team (I expect) playing with a big chip on their shoulder, I see them going 10-2 barring a rash of injuries, considering their non-conference schedule (no powerhouse like OSU this year) and the lack of terribly impressive opposition in the Pac-10 (nobody looks all that good outside of Stanford).

The talent is solid right now, but the attrition is nowhere near complete. I was under the impression, like most other people, that most starters would decide to stay put, but now I'm hearing Tyron Smith transfer rumors, that would be a big blow.

He would be a big loss, but I just don't see him leaving.  The guy is a returning starter who doesn't really fit the mold of the guys who bailed.  Unless he has a problem with the new staff for some reason, I don't see the bowl ban driving him (or anybody else) away.  At this point we are also just a few weeks from camp so it seems like he would have left already if he wanted to.

As of right now they have at least ten non-true-freshmen (based on a quick count) who were 4-star recruits or better on Rivals.  They just don't have many bodies after that.  Carroll was only recruiting one or two OL a year toward the end there and left them in a bit of a jam numbers wise (that I think could easily become a huge problem when the scholarship reductions hit).  Still, I think this year's unit will be solid, like I said, barring more attrition or a rash of injuries.

While I wouldn't argue that Arnett has incredible talent, his camp film is incredibly misleading.  He dominates the poor DB's in part because he's putting double and triple moves on them before even getting into his route.  With a pass rush and shoulder pads for the DB's to get their hands in to, it's a different world.

With that being said, I'm praying he commits to an out of conference school.  Kid can fly

The problem is that since he's a gigantic dickless wanking jackass, it's very difficult to be objective when looking at his record. It doesn't help him that he looks like a Hollywood character actor who's made his career playing obnoxiously stupid and snottily spoiled sons of rich men. The whole born on third base and thinks he's hit a triple thing.
