Between JeepinBen's writing and the comments, they cover a good bit of ground for stuff like that.

That's awesome, and the first time I've seen that.

Me, too.

They're down to 13 commits and three of them are soft verbals. At this point, I feel sorry for the kids who are still planning on going there.
January 23rd, 2013 at 4:38 PM ^
Don't feel too sorry for them. Those 13 commits are (according to Rivals) six 5* and seven 4* recruits. They could fill out the class with 2-3* types that they steal from WAC schools at the last minute and it would still be a pretty damn good class.
January 23rd, 2013 at 5:44 PM ^
Yes, or they could all go to any other school in the country if they want to. Never feel bad for people who have tons of great options because they decided to choose one of the bad ones.
They're not stuck there. These kids are either at SC because they really want to be, or they won't be when all is said and done. In either case, I wouldn't feel bad for them.

No matter how talented they are, they're still teenagers who have been bamboozled into spending their college years under the tutelage of Lane Kiffin.

Wow, so that leaves them with 13 committed including 5 EE. How many commits did USC have at its peak this year?

You could be right, and that'd be great for them, but I've heard that Hatcher really likes Mark Stoops. Kentucky is one to watch in this one.
January 22nd, 2013 at 7:33 PM ^
I agree. He's good friends with James Quick who's going to Louisville.

Right up there with Auburn
January 22nd, 2013 at 7:34 PM ^
I bet they're above Auburn, and Auburn missed a bowl and fired their coach (although you could argue that USC "missed" their bowl as well). USC has lost 2 5 stars, and three four stars now? Or is it more than that? Let's make a list and compare.

Self destructing as anyone with a brain could have predicted.

Either Kentucky or Louisville would be a good choice. He can play for Mark Stoops or Charlie Strong.

When are we going to see Leon McQuay decommits from USC and commits to Michigan?
January 22nd, 2013 at 7:38 PM ^
He can't - he's already enrolled.
January 22nd, 2013 at 7:41 PM ^
Well then he should just transfer to UM after the first semester. Seems easy enough to me.

Most coaches at big-time programs are older guys who have been around and paid their dues. Kiffin is kind of a golden boy who has had a lot handed to him at a young age. Maybe he's just not ready. He didn't last long in Oakland, booked from Tennessee after one season, and hasn't lit the world on fire at USC.
January 23rd, 2013 at 3:54 AM ^
His departure IIRC was pretty messy with Al Davis unloading on him publicly.
January 23rd, 2013 at 4:39 PM ^
It's the last good personnel move that Al Davis ever made.

Its like breaking up with a girl that you know is good looking, but bores the snot out of you...trying to break up with her in person never works, but when you're apart its a lot easier to follow through.
January 22nd, 2013 at 7:46 PM ^
He could hone his skills, maybe play in a BCS for UL and never cross paths with UM.
January 22nd, 2013 at 7:49 PM ^
Maybe I'm out of the loop, and apologies if this is a stupid question, but what's going on at USC that all of these commits are backing out? Is it just the disappointing season they had, or something bigger?
January 22nd, 2013 at 7:52 PM ^
January 22nd, 2013 at 7:54 PM ^
How many spots were they supposed to have available in this class? It always seemed like they were expecting some decommits...
January 22nd, 2013 at 7:57 PM ^
USC was the preseason #1 team, they were coming off a 10-2 season that finished strong, and they have the USC brand so they started the recruiting season on fire. It looked at that point like SC was back to being SC, which is basically Alabama but in Southern California.
Then SC lost to every good team they played (plus Arizona), Kiffin made himself look like an ass a few extra times along the way, and they imploded against 6-7 Georgia Tech in the Sun Bowl after not even showing up to the Sun Bowl team dinner. They then lost their NFL DC (who was a big recruiting draw in his own right) and replaced him with a guy from Cal who is pretty good but far less impressive.
Now they have a coach on the hottest of seats, and a program presumably headed in the opposite direction it appeared to be 365 days ago. These kids have lots of options, and many of them are choosing to head elsewhere.
January 22nd, 2013 at 8:00 PM ^
Says a lot that many are giving a hard look at ND after the season ND had.
January 22nd, 2013 at 8:12 PM ^
about Kiffin's exit after next year? Haden gave him a vote of confidence for next year, but can't see him lasting longer even at 9-3 or so.
January 22nd, 2013 at 8:15 PM ^
Swirling is an understatement. SC alums are really pissed, and some feel that Kiffin was only kept for the recruiting class, which is now falling apart. Kiffin will have to put together a very good season to keep his job, and that might be tough with a first year starter at QB who didn't look very good in limited time this past fall. They have talent, but they're very thin at a lot of spots, so injuries might play a huge role for them this fall.
January 22nd, 2013 at 8:55 PM ^
I actually started rooting for USC to keep him another year so he could slowly twist in the wind while the boosters and alums pelt him.
Firing would be too humane.
January 23rd, 2013 at 2:21 AM ^
the RichRod treatment, but in Southern Cal.
January 22nd, 2013 at 8:47 PM ^
Or have they already gone through that?
January 22nd, 2013 at 8:50 PM ^
This class is year 2 of 3 of the reduction. So they're facing it now, but it won't show up on the field as much this fall, but really the two years after that.
