same positions on either side of the ball. It does sound like they're recruiting Jr for offense, but maybe he's open to playing DE. He might well have met with the defensive coaches during his OV too. I'm sure we'd take him for either.
The timing of this commitment does not look like a coincidence at all. Pickard was originally planning to announce this Wednesday, which would have been during Wheatley's OV.

Jake Pickard has given his dad a real reason to cry. He should have accepted Harbaugh's offer the second it was extended.

The most likely explanation is UM slow balled Pickard (i.e. a non commitable offer - there we go) until they saw how the rest of the field fell. You have A commits, B commits and C commits. He was probably in the B category and then they wanted to see how they would do on the As. We didn't have answers from A's last weekend.
IMO, this is bullish. It shows some As are falling our way and we informed Pickard of that. I dont get necessarily why he is leaving Wisconsin per se but it shows he was going to leave one way or the other.
The fact all these crystal balls starting turning within an hour of these 5th year transfer announcements tells me something changed in our "swim lanes" the past 12 hrs and they turned for the better in terms of recruits. So conversations were had with Pickard and potentially our 2 in house guys. So at that point Pickard is going to Syracuse.
That's my story and I am sticking to it, and won't eat a lemon if I am wrong.
I mean the simplistic explanation is Ty Wheatley is coming and will play DE and take Pickard's spot. I doubt it is that simple. Maybe they feel a lot better about 2 other players then they did 24 hrs ago, regardless of positioon. And feel they can get by 1 more year without another DE. We'll never know.

Sam Webb has been saying for days that if Pickard does not choose Michigan it is because we have another TE/DE commit that we prefer. Too bad - I love kids that are so pumped about being a wolverine but... Harbaugh!

It's just his crystal ball prediction guys. Pickard hasn't made a decision yet. Witfong has been wrong quite a few times with his predictions. Best thing about it, he gets to change his mind daily. LOL

someone better. There is no way he would choose Syracuse if a Michigan offer/scholarship was on the table.

This combined with my own intuition combined with what Sam said on Recruiting Roundup this morning probably means that Clark, Wheatley or both are headed here.
There's no way that Pickard wasn't slow played given what we'd heard following his visit.
I'm bummed that a kid who had so much love for this place won't be playing here. Best of luck.
