DC Mgobloggers going to spring game?
I'm not going to the spring game, but I've done the drive plenty of times. It's a little over 8 hours for me (I'm not in DC proper, but very close).
It's really not a bad drive at all. Pennsylvania and Maryland are pretty. Ohio sucks, but we knew that.
here, what is with the bugs in Ohio? Everytime we drive through is looks like we hit a plague of loctus.
I've never had a problem with that.
Maybe it's a hygiene thing. For example, when I go hiking and get sweaty/stinky, the bugs seem to like me more.
Take a shower once in a while, Pigpen.
not sure that helped, but anyway.....
Pretty sure thats not the issue. The wife would cancel me out at worst. Maybe its due to our fall travels and the fact that I usually leave at 3am to get back to GR early.
Ugh, as a Yankees fan it hurts to be reminded of the bugs in Ohio. Joba, bugs, Cleveland, need I say more?. Joe Torre said the only thing he ever regretted about his time in New York was not getting the players off the field with all those bugs out there. If it weren't for those damn bugs I think we may have won the World Series that year
You're a Yankees fan...and a year after the Yankees win the World Series, you're still whining about the bugs in Cleveland?
Sorry, but nobody gives a damn. Seriously, the Yankees have won about 25% of all the World Series ever played. Suck it up and deal with a loss once in a while. Yeesh.
I'm currently a student at UofM and am also from from just outside DC. The drive is pretty lengthy (takes me about 7 hours), and pretty much eats up a whole day, at which the end of you are plenty exhausted.
The time it takes to do the drive is not the horrible part, it's more of that the trip consists completely of highway driving. Driving through the flat, empty obis that calls itself Ohio truly does suck as it lulls you to sleep on the highway.
Plus, with SW deals now-a-days, there is almost no reason to fly... although a taxi from DTW to AA is about $50 if that is your mode of transportation.
The spring game is definitely worth the trip though. Any good suggestions for Michigan friendly bars in DC? I haven't really found one yet that lives up to my expectations yet in Georgetown.
Buffalo Billards in Midtown used to have an alumni group there. Tommy Joe's in Bethesda is decent, right next to Metro. With that said, I live in burbs now and things may have changed
Midtown=Dupont Circle I presume since I've lived in DC for 23 years and have never been to Midtown DC.
I've been to Tommy Joe's in Bethesda once. It's a decent place, and FWIW, the waitresses were extremely friendly the night I was there. (No, I don't mean that in any kind of perverted way.)
Buffalo billards in dupont is probably the way to go. Almost all of the bars in georgetown suck unless you like hanging out with douchey frat kids from southern schools who wear salmon pants....
...ever. I can cast another vote for Buffalo Billiards.
I was at Buffalo Billiards for the MSU game this last year and the atmosphere was incredible. I've never seen so many Michigan fans in one place outside of the stadium.
I was the one who broke the glass.
And I intend to fly. Totally agree with Magnus although I think it should be said that driving it in under 8 hours is averaging over 70 mph for the trip, so if you drive slower, it will be a bit longer.
Ohio does suck but at least they joined the 21st century and finally got EZPass. That means four less interactions with people from Ohio per trip and that has to make any trip more enjoyable.
and the drive to AA takes 7 hours....Take that!
I live directly north of Bmore and just over the border into Pa. and I really thought about going, but I have a golf tournament that weekend. SUCKS
8 hours to AA from Bethesda. Would love to go to the game, but probably will watch it from someplace here - Buffalo Billards in Dupont and Caddie's in Bethesda are my spots. As always when you drive through pOSU country watch out for the police.
...this year. Taking my son to Blacksburg for a VT weekend. Have made the drive dozens of times and don't mind it at all.
I'll be there. I can't believe the Holiday Inn at Plymouth and 23 is charging $150 a night.
Didn't realize how many of you were down there in the DC metro area. Magnus, drive north, we'll do lunch and you can hate on me in person.
Dude, there is no way I'm hanging out with a guy who looks like a Lego.
