Dayne Crist to transfer to Kansas
In a somewhat surprising move(or it may not be, haven't followed closely) Dayne Crist has decided to play his final year of collegiate football at Kansas. I'm sure Charlie Weis is the reason for this, as he was the coach who recruited Crist to Notre Dame. Seeing as he's playing somewhere that won't affect Michigan, I wish him all the best.

I thought he was coaching at Pitt or was that some other guy? That's a good move for Crist however. Also glad he is not going to Rent a Quarterback U - Wisconsin.

I don't think thats a fair label- to my knowledge Russell Wilson was the first "rental" QB they've signed.
December 22nd, 2011 at 12:21 PM ^
This was the first Badger QB - or other major player - rental in the last two decades (my memory of Badgers' 80's football is limited to Al Toon and Al Toon only). And Wilson was a model citizen, loved by his teammates and fans. He did not adopt a holier-than-thou atttiude and was the ultimate team player. The QB situation at UW lent itself perfectly for Wilson to step in, and they were very fortunate to pick him up since their QB depth chart was littered with freaky, lingering injuries. They may even start a true frosh next year at QB (B. Houston), so they actually would probably love to pick up Russell Wilson version 2 in the off-season (and then I would definitely accuse them of being rental-mongers!).

Now is it Chryst to Kansas, and Crist to Pitt, or versa-visa?!??
Why's Weis need another coach at KU??
For Chryst’s sake I wish someone would get this straight.

Hilarious!!!
December 22nd, 2011 at 12:11 PM ^
I think it's a foolish move. Weiss is not a good coach. He escaped him once and now goes back for more?
December 22nd, 2011 at 12:12 PM ^
Probably can't get enough of Charlie's personality. The man is just enjoyable to be around.
December 22nd, 2011 at 1:18 PM ^
He wants to get back to having a schematic advantage every game.
December 22nd, 2011 at 1:25 PM ^
It's not Crist's choice. He was just caught by Charlie's orbital pull. Hello free return trajectory!!!

"The man is just enjoys being round"?
December 22nd, 2011 at 12:20 PM ^
I wonder how long until the Brady Capital runs out (Weiss' street cred earned from having "turned" Tom Brady into a superstar) . . .

If you mean Romeo Crennel, I raise an eyebrow at you in order to communicate "Not sure if serious."
December 22nd, 2011 at 1:29 PM ^
I believe Crennel's most recent outing resulted in beating an undefeated Packers team.
He's on the path to greatness.
December 22nd, 2011 at 1:48 PM ^
Granted, he WAS coaching in Cleveland (and if there's a worse job in football someone please inform me of it), but even by North Shore standards, Crennel was pretty abysmal as a HC. However, I do give him credit for being an above-average coordinator.

I would rather coach the Browns than the Bengals.
December 22nd, 2011 at 2:42 PM ^
You might be right; at least the Browns don't have half their team incarcerated at any given moment. On the other hand, the Browns are more historically and helplessly bad than the Bengals are. Two winnings seasons since their return in '99? That's grim.

I would rather avoid Ohio all together.
December 22nd, 2011 at 5:44 PM ^
least have an ownership that has a clue and gives a crap. But it's kinda like comparing two tire fires. And folks wonder why the buckeyes are the top pro football fanbase in ohio??
December 22nd, 2011 at 12:21 PM ^
Hey now! Notre Dame fans told me for years that Tom Brady never would have won all those Super Bowls if it weren't for Charlie Weiss. So how could this be a bad move?
Irish fans couldn't possibly be full of crap, could they?

Only as full as the porta-johns around the big house.
December 22nd, 2011 at 12:24 PM ^
he knows charlies schematic advantages - it will be a much easier transition for him than going somewhere that he has learn a new offense for only one season of play. Very smart move - the guy only has one year.

So that's how to change the oil in my truck. I kept forgetting the turkey step.

It's not a rational choice, it's gravitational force. Can't fight physics.
December 22nd, 2011 at 2:41 PM ^
He only has one year to prove himself. Now he gets to do it with a coach he obviously likes, a pro system with a playbook that he already knows, and a conference that has a history of giving up a shit load of passing yards.

Also, Lawrence is a great place.

Crist was fooled into believe Weis the first time...why not twice?
Whatever, Crist was always a mediocre talent. Kansas, Wisky, who cares.

"To Hell with Notre Dame" -Charlie Weis convincing Crist to transfer
December 22nd, 2011 at 12:16 PM ^
Not really surprising. After Wisconsin, Kansas was the media's next gues for where he would go since Chuck got hired there.
December 22nd, 2011 at 12:23 PM ^
Good news for the Jayhawks, though. A great QB? No. An upgrade? Yes.
December 22nd, 2011 at 1:57 PM ^
He was just hitting his last two years of eligibility this year (the time you can/should expect a QB to finally hit his stride) and got benched after throwing one interception in the season opener (despite moving the team up and down the field fairly well).
The guy was really mismanaged by Kelly. I don't know what the talent around him will be able to do, but the guy has talent and if his comfortable in the offense and gets to play he should be a fairly high draft pick next year.
December 22nd, 2011 at 12:24 PM ^
The fuck?
December 22nd, 2011 at 12:25 PM ^
As horrible of a college coach as Weis was/is, he does have a undeniable skill of taking mediocre (yet highly recruited) QB's like Brady Quin/Sunshine Clausen and getting them drafted. Wise decision on the part of Crist.

Dayne is a serious chubby chaser.
December 22nd, 2011 at 12:33 PM ^
So who's quarterbacking the Pitt Panthers??? I'm so confused
December 22nd, 2011 at 12:34 PM ^
I doubt that Crist had much of a say in it. Charlie's FUPA has it's own gravitational pull.
December 22nd, 2011 at 12:45 PM ^
I don't think this really affects Notre Dame. Rees is their starting QB. Crist didn't really factor into their plans. I think Barkley staying at USC is the potentially bigger news. That means that ND is for sure losing to USC in addition to probably losing to Michigan and Oklahoma. USC should be the favorite to win the Pac-12 South next season.
We could see USC in the Rose Bowl next year.

Matt has a press conference scheduled in a couple of hours and I haven't heard anything one way or the other.
There was speculation that Crist might end up at SC if Barkley turned pro, so maybe the OP is inferring that because he didn't end up there that means Barkley is staying. Not sure I buy that though, since he could very well have chosen a place with his former coach where he has a clearer path to the starting QB job even if SC was still a possibility.
December 22nd, 2011 at 2:18 PM ^
The Buzz on Twitter is that he's staying. Nothing is for certain right now. His announcement will be at 4 PM on ESPN.
