Dayne Crist to transfer to Kansas

Submitted by MGoChippewa on

In a somewhat surprising move(or it may not be, haven't followed closely) Dayne Crist has decided to play his final year of collegiate football at Kansas.  I'm sure Charlie Weis is the reason for this, as he was the coach who recruited Crist to Notre Dame. Seeing as he's playing somewhere that won't affect Michigan, I wish him all the best.

After a long & difficult decision making process, I'm incredibly excited to join the Kansas football team. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

This was the first Badger QB - or other major player - rental in the last two decades (my memory of Badgers' 80's football is limited to Al Toon and Al Toon only).    And Wilson was a model citizen, loved by his teammates and fans.   He did not adopt a holier-than-thou atttiude and was the ultimate team player.   The QB situation at UW lent itself perfectly for Wilson to step in, and they were very fortunate to pick him up since their QB depth chart was littered with freaky, lingering injuries.   They may even start a true frosh next year at QB (B. Houston), so they actually would probably love to pick up Russell Wilson version 2 in the off-season (and then I would definitely accuse them of being rental-mongers!).

He was just hitting his last two years of eligibility this year (the time you can/should expect a QB to finally hit his stride) and got benched after throwing one interception in the season opener (despite moving the team up and down the field fairly well).

The guy was really mismanaged by Kelly.  I don't know what the talent around him will be able to do, but the guy has talent and if his comfortable in the offense and gets to play he should be a fairly high draft pick next year.

As horrible of a college coach as Weis was/is, he does have a undeniable skill of taking mediocre (yet highly recruited) QB's like Brady Quin/Sunshine Clausen and getting them drafted.  Wise decision on the part of Crist.

I don't think this really affects Notre Dame. Rees is their starting QB. Crist didn't really factor into their plans. I think Barkley staying at USC is the potentially bigger news. That means that ND is for sure losing to USC in addition to probably losing to Michigan and Oklahoma. USC should be the favorite to win the Pac-12 South next season.

We could see USC in the Rose Bowl next year.

Matt has a press conference scheduled in a couple of hours and I haven't heard anything one way or the other.

There was speculation that Crist might end up at SC if Barkley turned pro, so maybe the OP is inferring that because he didn't end up there that means Barkley is staying.  Not sure I buy that though, since he could very well have chosen a place with his former coach where he has a clearer path to the starting QB job even if SC was still a possibility.
