This day will be remembered for a long time

Submitted by Communist Football on

This is the day an embattled program finally turned a corner and became bowl eligible.

This is the day an embattled coach gained the time, in career longevity, to see his players and his system grow into a perennial powerhouse.

This is the day an embattled defense showed that, when the game was on the line, they could deliver Michigan a victory.

In 2020, when we are looking back on the Decade of RR, a decade in which championships and trophies will return to Michigan, we will remember that this is the day that made it possible.

I've been a die-hard MICH fan for as long as I can remember, and never, ever has a victory been more sweet.

This team has overcome so much bullshit, not only from the MSM, but also from their own fanbase. To win this game and become bowl eligible is the sweetest thing ever.

Hail to the Victors babby!!!!!!!!!!

Glad for the team, did you see them charge the field after the sack! They were happy. On the way home from the game, listening to the post game interviews of the players, the one word I think every one of the players stated was 'happy', how happy they were. Those guys have played hard each and every game they've lost, and of course it hurts to lose. This is probably the first time since before the State game that they have felt happy. I am very proud of them, I -and I'm sure many of you- feel that the defense made some progress, showed some things that can be built upon. This is the best Saturday night I've had in a little while; I feel pretty happy myself...:)

Since that was the age I went to my first Michigan football game. It was the 1990 game when MSU came into Ann Arbor and ended up beating Michigan and Desmond Howard by 1 point.

It wasn't a triple-overtime win, but I'll still always remember how much fun I had at that game with my dad.

Our section full of some fuddy-duddies was quite loud and exciting today it was great to see. The 2 point conversion was the loudest I have ever heard the stadium. Question for anyone, did Illinois totally get away with a false start on their 4th down TD run in the first OT? It sure looked like it from section 37. Nonetheless great day to be a wolverine!

Watching on the left coast with a DVR, but didn't need the DVR to see the false start. Right guard was the worst offender, but not the only one. Almost seemed like the center snapped the ball late. That said, there were a number of questionable calls that went against the Redacti, so they were probably due a break. Michigan has certainly had their share of phantom calls against this year, obviously. A little karma is ok with me...

I swore I was not going to watch any more games because my body and my heart couldn't take it. I woke up this morning and said to myself, how what the hell, I am a Michigan fan and I need to show that through thick and thin. What a great decision that was. I witnesses, along with millions of others, the most exciting game of the season and a potential turn around to the program for the coming years.

Its great to be a Michigan Wolverine

I chose not to watch the game but instead to go watch our local rival (British University Am Football Leage) kick off their football season. I was constantly checking ESPN on my phone and missed most of the live plays going on. From all I've read this is the greatest game since I started watching M Football ( when I started college). And to top it all of the game was being shown on ESPN America in the UK and I wouldn't have needed to search for shitty quality streams. I've watched the Mgoblue 'highlights' which is basically all TDs. I need to watch more of the game. Anyone got michigan football porn for me? I feel absolutely devestated that I missed this game...

Michigan showed the true no-quit "we're Michigan; thus, we'll find a way to win" attitude that has wavered since the unlikely come-from-behind victory over Wisconsin in 2008. Great day to celebrate, then bring on Purdue! And Wisconsin! And THE Ohio State Terrelle Pryors!

And this game could be more of a turning point than PSU seemed last week. Because that game seemed dark because this one was looming. Beat Purdue, get to 7, and take a couple of shots to get to 8 before the bowl. And let the rest, as they say, be history.

Granted, I'm young, but this was the most fun I remember having watching a football game in my life. 1997 was incredible, but since I was in 4th grade I don't recall most of those games unfortunately.

I had no idea it was possible to shake the Big House, and we did that today. I visualized for a moment what it would be like if it collapsed before continuing to jump and scream my lungs out.

As long as I'm alive, this game will not be forgotten.

There are times the OP will throw one down that over-sells and over-blows a win and what it means. This isn't one of them.

Michigan needed confidence it could beat a Big Ten team considered to be very good defensively. We all played sports and know that it only becomes real when you walk off the field a winner on that scoreboard.

Until then, there is doubt.

Being a student who has been spoiled as far as early season play goes, it was good to finally see the team buckle down and pull one out in conference play. When Roundtree got caught inside the 5 on that long pass I had horrible flashbacks to the game from last year. Thankfully the end result was much better.

1998-2001 weren't all bad. Remember, a senior in 1997 had 3 years of 4 losses before it. (Now if you were a college senior in 1996...).

But yes, I feel for what the current students have had to live with. I mean, when I was in school, a bad year was winning the Big Ten but not going to the Rose Bowl.

After the Penn State game, a game in which I took my boys to their first Michigan game, I was so disappointed. But staying the course, I put my flag out, turned on my Michigan light, hung my Victors banner and enjoyed a game more exciting than the win over Wisconsin 2 years ago. My son and I both lost our voices, cheered and sang the Victors. Something we didn't get to do at Happy Valley. Brian Greise said it best, "As long as they have one more point at the end of the game, that's all they care about". Master of the obvious, but so true. Great win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Such a great atmosphere! How fitting with see the defense come up with a play. Feels great see Avery make plays out there. How a blitz finally pays off. One second yelling why kick a field goal? Instead of going for it. What a great day for 'Tree! Good for all the seniors, and us fans as well. We sure are exciting to watch! Go blue!

It is amazing what a difference two little points can make. If we had lost 67-65, everybody would be talking about losing despite scoring 65 points. Look at the Pictures? Pictures post and the tears? in RR's eyes. Two little points. Wow.

 • Likely the loudest I've ever heard the Big House
 • Epic offensive performance against a pretty damn good defense.
 • Records set by Denard (AGAIN) and Roundtree.

And I'll think we'll all remember it because...

Now that I think about it, we may have set a school record for passing yards in one game, but as a team, not the individual record (which Navarre still has, I believe).

I was surprised to find out that the record Roundtree broke (by Jack Clancy) had stood since 1966. Amazing to think that all the great receivers we've had since then could not top his 197 yards. Roundtree shattered it.

Amazing that we even passed enough back then to get that many yards.

And with Denard's rush yards too, he was getting close for total yards (not that Navarre's run yards didn't offset it some...). But then he got his bell rung.

My God, was that a thriller or what. I'm a young man but that game aged me 10 years. Our squad never gave up, even when everything was going Illinois' way. The receivers were absolutely lights out. Roundtree is a man-child, school record- congrats. Hemingway gets my game ball for sure. He was clutch, and we probably don't win without his playmaking and Jedi-esque awareness. The D, well, they were the D, but hey- they made the plays when they had to, kudos gentlemen. This game could give us some major confidence heading into our last three games. Holy shit i'm pumped, I'll stop rambling now.

Zook proved he's a terrible coach. 3rd and 1, 3 man front you've been pounding all day and he calls a roll out pass. That is just classic Ron Zook outcoaching himself.

I hope that today was the day that the tide started to turn.

That the civil war over this coach and this program that we love comes to an end.

That we look forward to the next three weeks (and next season) with anticipation.

That we know that it will be hard sledding, but we're almost there.

That we'll be able to say: We're Michigan. And we're back.
