This Day in Crystal Ballz - DL Edition

Submitted by alum96 on

Some interesting things going down in 247's crystal ballz today, all related to the DL.

  1. DT Jordan Elliott - who Steve Lorenz indicated is one of the top 3 guys UM wants for the DL class - had both Ace and Lorenz crystall ball to UM today.  He will be on campus this weekend.  Buzz building on him.
  2. DT Chris Daniels - who is also a UM target - suddenly has a OU crystal ball to Oklahoma from Lorenz.
  3. DT/DE Mr. Gary - who visited Ole Mi$$ this weekend just got a crystal ball projection from David Johnson to UM.  Who is David Johnson?  247's Ole Mi$$ writer.

Tea leaves - Gary "It's happening... even Ole Mi$$ money won't sway you to the SEC...".  Chris Daniels - we only have room for so many DT spots and Jordan Elliott is headed our way.  Thank you for your interest.

As the infamous 'Sheed Wallace said "(crystall) Ballz don't lie".  Esp if they are Ace, Lorenz, and Wiltfong ballz.

(Disclosure: If everything above is correct I take credit; if it's all wrong, it is Mr. Yost's fault.)

He's a USC commit from Florida.

He has officiallly visited only 2 schools - USC and Michigan.

He's returning to Michigan on an unofficial visit for The Game. He has genuine interest.

Ace put in Michigan Crystal Ball on November 5th.

We lead for Rashan Gary, Jordan Elliott, and Keyshon Camp.

Lorenz says the 3 DL UM wants are Gary, Camp, Elliott.

As you said paying his own way to come to Michigan for The Game (tm) is a great sign there too.  Jones is a HS teammate as well and apparently has been talking UM up to him.

I would not be surprised to see Camp flip. USC is playing UCLA for a spot against Stanford in the PAC Championship game...except Jim Mora's squad is going to be facing their 4th USC coach in 4 years. I would be surprised if USC wins this game...a 4th loss to UCLA in a row will be good news for Michigan on the recruiting trail.

Paywalled but yeah, I know why the Ole Miss guy put that crystal ball in.

Altercation went down on his visit at Ole Miss.....

Gary's mom had an altercation with a security guard because she did not have her credentials. The guard was overly aggressive and publically shamed her. The staff appologized and Gary's mother played it off but I would guess she was secretly POed.

Seriously.

It's almost as if when they can't just buy their recruits, they have no idea what to do. So they just stammer around saying, um, maybe we could show him a powerpoint?

Yep, this was it.

No cliffhanger intended, I just was lobbing up they alley oop for someone else as I don't want to completely post premium content as it's just bad taste.

Between reading this.... seeing the photo of Harbaugh at Bo's grave... and double-checking for the billionth time that The Game is set to record on my DVR... I'm soooo extremely jacked up right now. Sucks it's only Tuesday.

Well done. Gary is likely. Elliott is in and the staff thinks they have a better chance at Camp over Daniels. Daniels is just coming off of his OU visit and all indications are that he loved it.

Elliott scouting report

http://sonofacoach.com/jordan-elliott/

Athletic ability/measurables

Elliott is a very good athlete for a big man and moves really well laterally. He has elite size and strength with great length to go with it. He still has a lot of development to do physically and could probably easily get to the 315 range and and maintain his athleticism.

Skills/technique

Elliott played mostly on the edge for his high school team as a junior. It showcased his athleticism and with him keeping contain versus more athletic players. It also made him a little bit more passive and didn’t force him to always have a consistent punch. He flashes violence and strength, but doesn’t always bring his hands. The tools are there for him to shock offensive linemen with his hands.

His stance isn’t great and needs to be fixed. It a big reason why he will get too high and expose his chest too often. Once he gets that changed, it should make a big difference.

He flashes a great first step. Like most young guys it’s about him doing it every snap. When he gets off the football low and explosive, he is dominant at the point of attack and can penetrate through the line of scrimmage.

When he doesn’t have a great first step, he has a habit of standing up and then jumping around blocks rather than fighting through them. That’s something he’ll have to get away from at the college level.

Elliott has great potential as a pass rusher. His flexibility and the explosive lateral movement he flashes is what is truly impressive. He isn’t developed with his hands and must avoid the long swim move he uses, but his length is going to be a huge asset for him.

Jamie Uyeyama was a way too small defensive tackle at Idaho State University and a more appropriately sized rush end at Simon Fraser University. He was a coach at the college and high school level and is the son of Ron Uyeyama, a member of the Delta Sports Hall of Fame and high school football coach for over 30 years (hence the site name, Son of a Coach)
