David Sills (2015 QB) offered

Submitted by Michigan Eaglet on

It looks like the second (first since Josh Rosen) 2015 QB offer has been extended per TomVH:

Tom VanHaaren @TomVH 29s

2015 USC QB commit David Sills, per his father, has been offered by Michigan. Dad says Hoke in-school right now.

Also, it appears Tim Settle, 5 star DT out of Virginia has also been offered

Steve Lorenz @TremendousUM 4m
#Michigan has offered 2015 five-star defensive tackle Tim Settle

I don't understand why a great number of people seem obsessed with Kevin Dillman and think its a travesty that Michigan hasnt offered him.  The kid is very raw.  It is just as likely that he will never develop into a solid QB as it is that he blows up.  It is very ovious the staff wants guys who are more developed and better able to run the offense.  Sills looks quite mobile and has great mechanics.  You can't really ask for much more than that.  If Dillman was a random 3 star who said he loved Michigan, no one would bat an eye.  But because someone decided he is a 5 star, people assume he is OMG amazing and the best qb prospect ever.

Thowing my opinion in here. I've watched the kid a few times on tape and expected to be blown away. But I'm not. I'm not saying he's a bad quarterback by any means, but he looks like a 3-star kid on tape to me. I'm not a star hog either, but QB's and star evaluations tend to be fairly accurate. Especially ESPN's rankings. Luginbill does a good job of evaluating. Canteen impresses me more than Sills in his tapes. The WR should never outshine the QB that's supposed to be a high D-1 recruit. I just disagree with this offer at this time. I've watched most of who we thought were our top 6's tapes and Sills might be the least impressive to me of the those 6. I personally like Malzone, Kearns, and Johns, probably in that order.. Malzone just seems to have some sort of "it" factor to him and he looks like a 4 star quarterback to me on tape. Kearns has a lot of accuracy like Malzone, but I also think Kearns is helped by his receiver #2. I have no idea who he is but he looks like a high caliber D-! WR on Kearns' tape. Johns has potential, he has some athleticism to add to the position. Seems fairly raw though. So this is just my two cents. I'm not fond of the offer to Sills but I guess we'll see.

"The WR should never outshine the QB that's supposed to be a high D-1 recruit."

Huh? I don't even know what that means. Who made that rule? Doesn't it matter that the receiver is a high D-I recruit also?

Neither QB's film blows me away, but I don't see how you come away from their film thinking that Sills is a 3-star and Malzone is a 4-star. Is it because Malzone has more wide open receivers running around? Neither has a Howitzer for an arm, and neither is a great "athlete." And while Malzone certainly has more offers coming his way (rather than just BGSU), the current offer list of Sills (Clemson, Michigan, USC, etc.) is probably a clue that he has something Malzone lacks.

My first comment meaning if you're this supposed to be wonder boy that committed to USC in the 7th grade, I feel like you should be the best person far and away in your own highlight tape. Your pretty much unknown 3-4* receiver who hardly anyone knows about shouldn't be outshining you in your OWN highlight tape. And no it's not because Malzone has wide open receivers. It's where he places the ball on almost every pass. I'm actually a fan of the hitch sort of throwing motion he has. Throwing motion is the biggest load of BS I'v ever heard. I'm sure people have heard of Matt Stafford. How does he throw the ball? It's side arm almost 75% of the time. Rich Gannon was the same way. There's a number of others too. Each person has his own preference. Mine is not Sills.  It seems like he probably hasn't grown much as a QB since he got that offer in th 7th grade, which concerns me.

Nobody said anything questioning Malzone's arm slot, so I'm not sure why you bring it up. Regardless, I think your expectations were maybe too high going into it. Sills is rated as a 3-star for a reason (not a great athlete, not a super strong arm, etc.). Malzone isn't rated at all. Maybe you're letting four-year-old news color your views, but nobody in the current football recruiting world really thinks Sills is the bee's knees. He is a solid football prospect, though.

Also forgot to mention but I had family members go to watch one of their games earlier this year, all of which have coached football either in college or high school. They were going to watch Sills specifically. Said they were highly unimpressed with him. Said Canteen was the more impressive by a country mile with Watson actually 2nd ahead of Sills as well. And I also didn't tell them that Canteen and Watson were Michigan commits so they wouldn't be biased. So take that FWIW but not what I want to hear from people completely unbiased of the situation
