David Reese Trending Strongly to Texas of Late

Submitted by alum96 on

Two guys I look at very closely in crystal ballz are Lorenz and Wiltfong.  Lorenz just put in a Texas pick for David as have 2 other folks in the past 24 hours including the Longhorns guy.  Our own ska band guy picked him to Texas a few weeks ago.  So if you believe these tea leaves, along with UM not allowing him to EE it looks like he is headed elsewhere.

What strikes this as interesting is other tea leaves in the LB corps.  Most think Kelly is an OU guy and Devin Bush Jr is trending to FSU of late so I am curious if those 2 fall as expected what LBs we are left to be in play for.  Jonathan Jones has been a Michigan "lean" for most our lifetimes and McCulloch and Jackson are sort of longshots.

We basically have Kemp as a BUCK and Johnson as a project guy...

Will be curious how this falls out as you assume we went another 2 LBs in this class with the lack of upperclassmen and zero LBs taken last year.

Can't say I blame him. He is being slow played by UofM and told he isn't a priority to EE (which he wants to do) and Texas is telling him he is a priotiry and he can EE if he wants... why wouldnt he go to Texas?

As long as the guy feels he has a good option and can early enroll then good for him.  Would love to see him end up at Michigan as he is a linebacker and would prefer a bird in hand, but who's to say he would be that anymore if he feels jerked around by the staff?

In any case, if it is trending away, happy trails and it's great that he has a lot of high level D1 options.

Was Reese a Hoke recruit?

Personally, i like Reese.  He reminds me of a young David Harris.  Give me a solid, sure tackling machine over a light, uber athletic guy who runs around like a chicken with head cut off.

There are a few guys i have hoped would not stick, but Reese is not one of them.

In all seriousness...he was one of my favorite players when he committed. Seemed like a Des Morgan type. A solid contibutor and future starter. A 5-year glue guy that becomes a fan favorite.

Texas would be a nice fit, but not sure how long Strong is there.

I hope we keep him, but in reality, we could probably get a better player...just like there's better than Morgan. But I'm a firm believer in that you need some of those guys. You can't just have a USC, all 5* roster with no guys who are striving to be captain and out work everyone else.

Was not being able to hold onto Darrin Kirkland in the aftermath of the Brady Hoke debacle. He has started every SEC game for 6-4 Tennessee. He definitely could've helped us this year and next.

How far has Texas fallen to have to come to Michigan for a 3 star linebacker? Wow, I guess Derrick Johnson/Brian Orakpo aren't walking back through that door anytime soon.

Michael Ferns loss is a big one to me.  He was the highest rated recruit of that LB class and he was essentially a Harbaugh personified player.  I wish he had waited around 30 more days.

I still would be boggled that 3 of the 4 LBs from that class would all be flameouts -- I have to believe of Winovich or Furbush or Wangler, at least 1 has to hit.

Agree on Kirkland and then that guy who ended up at Georgia last year that Harbaugh tried to get at the last moment and was visiting his mom at work.

The lack of a LB in last year's class sucks as we have no one to groom in that class - have to recruit 2 classes worth.

It kind of amazes me that a kid from MI would be on the radar of Texas at LB, but good for him.

UM should fine either way; wish David the best if he switches.  It will be interesting if this sticks considering some of the Storng-to-Miami talk that is going on.

For some reason I think it has to do with the ability of playing time. I feel like he has gotten a little scared of competition seeing how our recruiting class is shaping up. I would love to keep legacies at school, but in HARBAUGH I TRUST. If he ain't worried, I ain't worried.

It's hard for me to believe any kid would want to walk into that mess right now in Austin.

The other being is how would you not want to play for one of top defenses in the country ?

Isn't Mr. Robinson will the D coach there ? Haha he lasted few seconds in A2.
