David Harris Pwns Bart Scott
I'm watching Hard Knocks with my roommate right now, who has a raging boner for Bart Scott. Apparently he's not alone, as Rex Ryan won't shut up about how awesome Scott is. On top of that, Scott has already been interviewed twice and I haven't heard Harris' name mentioned once.
Yeah, Scott is a great linebacker but he isn't half of the player that Harris is.
Some quick 2009 stats:
Tackles
Harris: 81 (led team), Scott: 67.
Assists
Harris: 46 (led team), Scott: 25.
Sacks
Harris: 5.5, Scott: 1.0.
Interceptions
Harris: 2, Scott: 0.
Forced Fumbles
Harris: 2, Scott: 0.
Can somebody tell me what I'm missing here?

Its all personality.
Harris is quiet. He does his job and leads by example. This formula doesn't equate to high ratings for HBO.
Scott is more of an outspoken leader on the Jets D. This gets him more face time on Hard Knocks.

I was watching the 06 UM-OSU game, and the announcer said something about Harris being the most underrated player. David Harris is my hero.

He has made comments before about Harris being possibly the Jets most important linebacker, if not defensive player. I think it was linked in mgo.licio.us. I guess many, many teams have contacted the Jets trying to get a trade for Harris and have each time been immediately denied. Rex Ryan knows how important and how good Harris is, as does the actual league, even if the media and casual fans have no idea. Also, like others said, Harris is quiet, and is very workman like in the way he plays. That doesn't make for the enthralling in your face show HBO is probably looking for, though I'd personally take it 8 days out the week over the alternative.

Harris is the man... he has been a great ambassador for the Uni... he is not looking for limelight, just letting the play on the field do the talking

Did anybody notice one of the coaches say "Hey Donny that was a nice tackle. If you played like that last year, maybe Michigan would've won some games." Cracked me up.

He's been a key part of 2 pretty good defenses. Harris might be better, but don't downplay Scott's role in that defense. Rex Ryan might be a little crazy and annoying at times, but he's forgotten more knowledge about defense than 99.9% of people will accrue in their lifetime, so if he says someone is awesome, I'll take his word for it.

One thing that Bart does extremely well is eat up blocks. He'll take on ANYONE in the hole to free up Harris or whomever else to make the tackle. They're both very good linebackers.

Yeah, and I have to give Bart Scott props for the quote last night about Joe McKnight. Paraphrasing, in regard to why Joe McKnight seemed surly and wasn't playing well: "Well, shit, he just mad 'cuz he had to take a pay cut to play here," in reference to the goings-on at Joe's alma mater.
Classic. Ripping on USC isn't going to get old any time soon.
