Dave Brandon sends snarky email back to alum

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Ed-Ace: Did some digging on this and while I haven't been able to get my hands on the original email, I can confirm that if real it is from December of 2013 or earlier, not last weekend. Doesn't change the content of the email, of course, but it does change the context.

Just some background here, my friend comes from a family of Michigan alums. Her aunt who is an alum had enough of this garbage so she decided to speak up.

She sent a very respectful email to Dave Brandon that was well-written on their families' opinion of the job he is doing and she said that they no longer were season ticket holders.

This is by no means a fake. This is his actual email which I have confirmed on here before, as has another poster when he posted a story about DB snapping back at him.

She thought I should pass this along and I found this very interesting given the interview coming out today.

I guess we found out those more important things that Dave had to do...

When asked why he didn't address questions sooner: "Frankly, I've been busy doing things that I think are frankly more important." — Brandon

EDIT: Apologies! I originally posted the photo from a direct message on twitter but I've uploaded it onto another site.

How about your friend forward's the original "mass email type deal" she received to you. Then you could forward that to someone else for at least *some* semblance of verification - Instead of giving us a screenshot that is completely unverifiable?

how did you expect for him to respond...the fan base is calling for his job and I am sure the initial email was just politely asking him to resign

Google that email address -- [email protected] -- and you get a lot of websites showing that it was his email, including a tweet from Ace in 2012.  I will say, I'm not finding current websites showing it's still his today.  Like, it was his when he was on the Board of Regents.  (Which I didn't know he used to be, and which, makes me think the BOR isn't likely to see him as the Pimp Hand that he is.)  I would guess it's still his, I mean, why would he stop using it?  But if that response is really from that email address, I can't imagine he actually wrote it.  What fool would do that?

It's his uniqname.

They NEVER expire and you aren't allowed to change.

The new email address is just a redirect (there are numerous university folks that have them) - but the dabran uniqname is still valid and still his.

the actual guy who was a CEO of a reasonably large company with a national presence is foolish enough (drunk enough? I don't know) to go on record (every person in any kind of organization with access to email knows what happens when you put down stuff in writing that never ever goes away because of all the cautionary tales)  The proper analogy is not coming to the front of my mind about how far-fetched of a possibility this is.  Whats posted is a fraud.  Not saying WD cooked it up by any stretch of the imagination.

This is a cheap shot with an account hack, photoshop, snipping tool, etc.

I understand the anger directed at the guy and how he earned it.  I don't support cheap shots or smear tactics.  Its lowlife and unprofessional.

This has been a standard go-to response by Brandon toward frustrated emailers over the last year or so. It isn't fake, it isn't a fraud, and yes, he is stupid enough to "go on record" with responses like this. "Lowlife and unprofessional" is the lunatic in charge of Michigan's athletic department.

I have a hard time believing this. He should know emails leave a paper trail. There's a reason why I still call people about certain things where we don't want a trail.

We know he's prickly and all... But unless he's pretty much drunk emailing at this point out of sheer frustration (and that's possible, I guess...), I don't see any way in which this is legitimate.

I think she should send a short reply:

"Thank you Mr. Brandon for your response. I am writing the Regents to suggest that you find another school to work for. Michigan will be quite fine, if not much better, without you.  Have a happy life."

this makes me.  I want to see her email.  But Jesus H this is pathetic.  He is representing the University of Michigan for christsake.  No employee of the university should respond like this to anybody.  Pathetic.  When will this end?

People are missing a point.  Even if dabran is his email, people can spoof email return addresses or simply EASILY photoshop a screenshot of an email.

No original email, not to mention it would be very easy to photoshop this "response". I'm surprised this hasn't been zapped.

I have no way to confirm whether this email is legit, but I'm inclined to believe it is. Partly because this isn't the first I've heard of him sending snarky email responses to fans voicing their concern and partly because I'm just sick of the guy.
