Dave Brandon and Mary Sue at DC Alumni Event

A plug from the president of the DC-area Alumni Association chapter (a good friend of mine)...

For those living in the DC area and are members of the Alumni Association, the annual Congressional Breakfast event set to occur next Wed March 30 will feature, among others, Mary Sue and Dave Brandon.  Dave Brandon was a late and recent addition to the lineup, so I urge all members in the area to attend and support our local scholarship fund, and get some inside info on the athletic department at the same time.  He will be mingling and working the room, so you will be able to have good access for questions and conversation with him.  There is an ongoing silent auction in conjunction with the breakfast that ANYONE can participate in (again, all proceeds to our scholarship fund).  Link:

Mary Sue Coleman seems to obviously wear the pants in the relationship whenever they appear together in public at a press conference or something......and I freakin love that. Mary Sue does a fantastic job of making it seem like she's a president of one of the premiere academic institutions in the country, and she treats football like some minor distraction that she sometimes has to comment on. Because that's how it should be. I don't like the recent trend of presidents being expected to rule over certain schools' football programs, like President Gee down at OSU. Football probably takes up less than 2% of a school president's day-to-day activities, and they should act like it. It would be interesting to two how these two interact in a setting like this.

Uh, right.  It should go like this:

Mom, apple pie, and Brady Hoke are great.

Basketball and football are headed in the right direction.

Another smarmy comment about never having to defend Michigan to the NCAA again.

Great "inside info" about what color socks one of the coaches wears.

Sorry, but politicians like DB don't give out any "inside info" unless it is calculated to evoke a pre-planned and desired effect.  And then, based on his record, you will never know whether he is telling the truth or not.

That being said, it still sounds like a great time.

But if DB is there, I may go. I haven't been able to go to the past Congressional Breakfasts because of my previously ridiculous vampire-like work schedule. Now that I have sane hours, might as well make my way there.
