I don’t get how so many people feel that going to a school that isn’t ranked as high as Michigan according to US News means that academics are pushed to the side. There is much more to picking a school than where it ranks. In fact, school ranking is really meaningless because how you perform academically is about fit and motivation. If you really care about academics you are going to pick a school that isn’t going to overwhelm you, yet still motivate you to succeed. Performance is dependent more on the student than on the departmental perception. I’m sure there are many Alabama engineering grads that are doing just as well as Michigan engineering grads.
