Darius Winston looking to transfer?

It has been reported that Arkansas freshman CB (and former 5* recruit) Darius Winston is looking to transfer. He was high on Michigan before he made his choice to head to the Razorbacks.

How much could this really help us in the long run if he chose to join the Maize & Blue?

Side note: He's not even starting with the terrible secondary that Arkansas has.

Your quite correct about...

DW being high on Michigan after decomitting from the Hawgs orginally. Hope we can get his attention again.

This would be nice..

just from a depth pov. Hopefully he would be able to realize his potential.

Does anyone know why he is transferring? Is it just an playing time issue?

No idea

But re: him not starting. No idea what his situation was, but true frosh don't easily crack the two deep, even in a thin secondary - one needs to look no further than UM's secondary (of course, some of that can be explain by JT's late start, TJ's position switch, etc... just saying. It's not necessarily damning of DW).

He wouldn't be able to play

until '11 even if he did happen to transfer. Lord I'm hoping CB depth is better before then.

I don't believe this is true.

I don't believe this is true. Like Laval-Lucas Perry in basketball, he would only need to sit out one year from receiving his release from Arkansas, so he could play at some point midseason 2010.

Corrections to this statement are welcome if it is inaccurate

I assumed he wouldn't

be able to transfer in/enroll in school until January, and at that point would have to sit a year. Perhaps a false assumption.

when is the drop/add

when is the drop/add deadline? If he can get in before that he can count this year as his sit-out year. that's one reason so many guys bailed on Weis early that year.

UPDATE: drop add deadline is the 28th. He's got a week if he wants to transfer to M and be eligible in 2010. yes plz.

LLP was involved with Arizona

LLP was involved with Arizona during his first semester freshman year. Then he transferred and had to sit out a year. Because he chose to transfer so early, his year consisted of his second semester freshman year and first semester sophomore year. So he started playing after first semester ended last year.

Since football only happens during first semester, it wouldn't matter for Winston whether he transferred immediately or after the 09-10 school year because he would have to sit out next fall any way.

This was probably incomprehensible, but hopefully you get the idea.

Ah, yes, I do get that idea

Ah, yes, I do get that idea and I remember the details of the LLP transfer now. I believe you're right, he would have to miss two full semesters, thus all of the 2010 season.

Maybe he's the player to be named later in the Ryan Mallet trade with Arkansas.

Interesting. My question is

Interesting. My question is why?

He is from Arkansas, so it is not like he is homesick. Maybe he doesn't like the scheme/coaches?

I doubt Rich Rod would turn him down if he wanted to transfer to us. From everything I heard, the kid had serious skills.

That's what I remembered too,

That's what I remembered too, he named us his leader from out of nowhere without even visiting right? I'm not sure why he did that at the time, but it never seemed like we were actually in the running with him, I can't imagine it would be much different this time around.

It'd be great if he came here, but probably nothing to get our hopes up about.
