Too bad, but wish him all the best. Hopefully we can pull in Payton, and if not, Chesson.

Good for him. It looks like its going to be Chesson for sure at this point, which I'm fine with. Chesson is a great fit for Borges' offense, and he loves Michigan.

Also, no proofreading a commitment announcement? lol

One of their coaches is welll known as the best recruiter in the nation. It really shows. They still have diggs and payton on thier board with bryce treggs already in the class. How many WR are they going to take?

Having 2 classes in the top 10 (last year and the year before) in the last 10 years means that Clemson ALWAYS has classes in the top 5-10, I wanna know where you learned your math. Clemson has put together two solid classes the last two years, but other than that they have a few top 20 classes, and a few well outside the top 20. And if you had ever been to that part of the country, you would understand why kids would go to school there. Not to mention they have a great stadium and atmosphere down there.

I agree, but Clemson also always seems to have NFL talent, and it's usually first/second round talent, much like North Carolina. And yet, while both teams have this NFL talent, while in college, they don't ever seem to do all that well. If that was his point, I totally agree.

Having NFL talent at a few random spots every year isn't going to make a team compete for National Championships. Ya, Clemson may have a good RB, WR, DE, or LB come out every few years or so, but it's not like they are spitting kids into the league like they are USC. Clemson competes on a fairly decent level every year as well, they just always collapse the last few games every year.

For what it's worth, a friend of mine, whi is a Stanford alum and a big-time Cardinal fan, will insist from dawn 'till dusk that Cal is dirty. I don't have any insight into that, except to say that you would think a dirty team would perform better, but maybe they haven't been dirty long enough, I don't know. That's just the perspective from Cal's most bitter rival.

Jeff Tedford has had 9 winning seasons out of 10 and has won 63% of his games. They aren't usually a top contender, but to argue that they suck is ridiculous. They're at about the same level in the Pac-12 as Iowa is in the B1G.

I remain somewhat baffled re the degree to which Cal -- a consistently mediocre program with a sub-par coach, stadium, and fan-base -- annually attracts high-end football recruits.

Maybe I'm just too cynical. Maybe some players really just prefer to attend a great school in a great part of the country. It's basically Ann Arbor West: worse football, better weather.

But still. You'd think more of these West Coast-type kids would instead choose Stanford, UW, Oregon, or even UCLA.

People are different, how else can you put it? My girlfriend's best friend is from Georgia, graduated from UGA, and when looking for law schools, she searched all over... I asked her if she was considering Michigan, which she quickly said how much she loved Ann Arbor the one time she visited, she knows the school is fantastic, but she knew she couldn't handle the winters, which made her decision easy. She loved Ann Arbor, she loved the education part of Michigan, but for a Georgia girl, dealing with 4+ months of winter .... she couldn't do it. I moved to Georgia for many reasons, one of those was to get away from the snow .. want to know what SoCal doesn't have much of? That's why kids go that way, and from there, they find the best school that fits for them. So while we're left baffled, to others, it makes perfect sense.

Just saying...

About Cal: Berkeley, the Bay Area, one hour from Napa, top notch academics and jeesh.......that pole vault chick. Then there is the ganga....everywhere. No wonder the football team sucks. How can you concentrate on sport with all that great shit happening?

But how can Cal expect to compete on a regular basis against USC, Oregon, Stanford (lately) and now Arizona with Rich Rod? Cal has to fight just to finish third in the Pac-12 North division.

I agree with your larger point, listing "one hour from Napa" as a reason recruits go to Cal is a little much. Granted, I'd love to live in a world where cabernets are as popular with college football players as tattoos and video games. But I'm not holding my breath for Powe to tweet: "Bout to get my French Laundry on with my man @AzShittu!!!! #CaliCabs4Life"

I spent 4 years at Cal and 4 at UM and while I root for the Michigan football more, I would much rather live in Berkeley. Better climate, better food options, and San Francisco is in a whole different league from Detroit. With that said, I'm not the one trying to get into the NFL, and fan support is never great in California when there's so much else to do.

I believe Payton is way overhyped. Having seen him play several times this year, I have to downgrade my previous thoughts on him. In the two biggest games of the year against Westlake including the championship playoff game from Friday night, he was non-existent in both offense and defense.

He caught 1 pass for 5-6 yards and had 1 5-6 yard run. He was late to the ball at safety. Total FAIL
