Darius Morris Stock Rising
Morris is moving on up in the Rivals power rankings... He's now ranked eleventh, after putting up 20 points and 9 assists on Iowa

(side note: Tim Hardaway Jr. moved up to 10 in the fresman ratings as well)

To be clear.
That's 11th in the PG rankings... not overall. I was a bit confused at first.

I thought this was going to be another draft thread.

My gasket was just about to blow after reading about Al Borges' apparent eating habbits...

I'm glad hes rising and I understand why he's not higher because he's only a sophomore. But in all honesty, I think he's one of the best PG in the country, and by best i mean higher than 11th(even though 11th is still very good). The man can somehow get anyone the ball....

How can Hardaway be 11th in the freshmen rankings? Everyone knows Beilien can't recruit, identify or coach elite talent. This ranking is obviously garbage.
February 22nd, 2011 at 12:16 PM ^
Right -- and don't forget that all his recruits are too small. Oh, wait -- that's just Rodriguez.

Beilein hates centers and would prefer his team to have 5 guys between 5'8" and 6'3". We should convert the 19 slot receivers RR stockpiled up to the basketball team.

Also on the freshman list, with THJ, are Sullinger (#1), Basabe (Iowa, #15), and Craft (osu, #23). I get a feeling that Basabe and Craft are going to be annoying me for the next few years. Also, i just can't WAIT for more no-pun-intended intentional puns on Craft's name from BTN announcers, ie, "He's a crafty player, no pun intended, lol".

Is it the turtle head poking out?

Did anyone else notice that Izzo is on the top 25 list? How do they decide who is on the list? He's lead a pre-season top 5 team to the brink of not making the tournment. I realize he's a historically great coach, but this season has been weak to say the least.

i noticed that, and i think it's because of his high pre-season ranking, and because sparty didn't self-destruct until about midway through the season

Two spots ahead of Sparty's best player. HAHA!

We are going to have to best 1-2 punch in the conference next year (and Morgan will be a very cool #3).

To me, Smotrycz is the guy who could turn this team into a complete monster next season. He's shown a high ceiling already (18 and 6 @ Clemson, 14 and 6 against OSU). With his size, skill, and shooting ability he has a chance to be a beast if he can somehow mirror the Darius Morris offseason development program. If he can make that kind of leap while those around him continue to improve, the sky is the limit for this team going forward.

don't get your hopes too high on that plan. We can't get rid of MH again

I could see it. I hope he can improve on D as well to solidify the 4 position. Novak's a gamer but asking him to log heavy minutes at that position limits us.

Interesting rankings... so Sullinger is a center, but Leuer, Draymond Green, and John Shurna are Power Forwards. That's a bit bizarre.
February 22nd, 2011 at 1:19 PM ^
Shurna is all power. Just behold the pythons on this guy.
February 22nd, 2011 at 1:31 PM ^
God that was awesome. You win the thread.
February 22nd, 2011 at 1:36 PM ^
If Shurna was 6'3", he would be an all-conference 2-guard for a Division 3 program, because he can score the damn ball and does have some hoops moxie. And he would get burned on D by the other D-3 shooting guards, but would simply outscore them.
But instead he's 6'8" or taller, so he's a pretty solid 3 on a 2nd tier Big 10 team with those same attributes.
One of my Northwestern buddies, who knows nothing about sports but thinks he does, was describing Shurna as "such a great athlete". I had to correct him with my strong opinion that he's not a good athlete at all, he's just 6'8" with a pile of basketball skill (very distinct from being a "great athlete").
Sorry for turning this into a Shurna thread.

has one of the ugliest shooting form that I've seen, but by gum, he keeps making it!
