Darius Morris shines in summer league play
Summer league for non-rookies relate to getting a regular gig on a roster? I don't know much about the NBA or the D-league. I hope this is a good sign, and that if he can play under Nash he can learn.
For the most part it's just practice for recent draft picks and young players (like Darius) to get some practice and extra games in
But in general, there's probably about 3-4 players per team (mostly undrafted players or D League/International players trying to break through) where this is their shot to impress whoever may be watching and get a contract.
They lost by 50 (a NBA summer-league record) to the Heat last night.
Nothing personal but he is taking the backup PG minutes that should go to Darius.
In what is essentially a college all-star league (many of these players would be ~seniors in college right now), but at the end of the day he still needs to prove he can hit outside shots with more consistancy and cut down on his turnovers. We already knew he was capable of this type of performance against this type of talent, but the next step is a big one. I hope he can take that step, time will tell.
On a related note, DeShawn Sims had a pretty good first summer league game a couple of days ago with the Phoenix Suns' team. This news item had the following blurb on him:

DeShawn Sims, a 6-foot-8 free agent from Michigan, went 7 for 12 from the floor and 2 for 2 from 3-point range for 16 points
“I like DeShawn,” [Suns assistant coach and summer league head coach Dan] Majerle said. “Of course, he’s a Michigan guy — which is good, because I am. He’s got great size (and) he knows how to play; good strength and can shoot the basketball, so he didn’t surprise me.
“He’s been playing well the whole camp.”
He did not look that good to me....And I was there in person! It is a different story when you keep your team in the game instead of getting buckets in mop up time. I wanted to see more out of him but did not, just my opinion from seeing it in person.

He wound up with 11 points most of those in mop up time. Like I said with seeing him with my own eyes in THAT game he was not impressive.
I'm not too impressed by Morris' play thus far. Although he had a very nice game yesterday (9-9 shooting), he has played 4 games, and his shooting numbers have been less than superb. He has shot 3-11, 5-15, 4-17, and 9-9 from the field thus far, and his 3 point percentage is quite low.
Hopefully, Morris can use yesterday as a springboard for more success and help his team win a game finally!
He just does not look that good, not saying he cannot over come this but in person he is not that impressive.
