Darian Roseboro Open Thread

Announces at 2:30pm ET on ESPN.com. LINK

There is a paywalled article on ESPN regarding it, unfortunately it's not looking good.

LINK

Basically it talks about how distance has became a key factor for him and that's why NC State is the presumed leader.

Lets hope they're wrong, GO BLUE!

I live in Raleigh, and I asked a few co-workers who are NC State grads what they thought of Roseboro's decision. They all replied that they had never heard of him.

I'll report back if I hear anything else from enemy territory.

The CB picks for NCST have all been buy guys in the Carolinas, somewhere else in the south, or an OSU writer.

Whereas the CB picks for UM are from Michigan writers, some midwest guys, and national writers/analysts.

So we got that going for us, which is nice.

C'mon Darian ... 750 miles isn't that far. It's still in the same time zone. Plus the city's beautiful. And you'll play in front of more than 100,000 fans who will love you. And the girls are pretty and smart. And the pizza's great. And last year's snow was an abberation. And ...

Sorry - I forgot that begging isn't pretty. You'd think I'd have learned that in high school.

Ann Arbor has a great ace in the hole that is understated in recruiting . . . it is near a large hub airport that has lots of reasonably-priced non-stop flights to everywhere in the US.

It is easy to get to Ann Arbor from just about anywhere, especially the East Coast.

I thought distance wasn't a factor?

According to Roseboro, location won’t factor into his decision. “My parents, they’re going to come wherever I go,” Roseboro said. “We’ve already talked about that. They said, ‘Don’t go somewhere just because you don’t think we’re not going to make it. We’re going to be at every game.’ They’re in a position where they can do that.”

I have been reading Sam Webb for years and while he always prefaces anything with "things can always change", I have never seen him express this level of confidence in a player who didn't end up committing to Michigan and he is indisputibly the most connected Michigan insider. So it's not for sure, but I'd take his word over others right now.

You mean that ESPN may be manipulating us by putting forth a weakly formed opinion in order to *potentially* drive more eyeballs to their station today? BSiB, you're a filthy liar. ESPN is a bastion of integrity.  They do no more than report the facts.

Maize'n'Brew is a little more upbeat, at least as of yesterday, if anyone would like a different perspective - HERE

They do post Mike Farrell's tweets in which he seems to indicate that NC State is a legitimate threat to any shot Michigan might have, but they also mention that Roseboro himself has given indications that Michigan has been the favorite for a while. In any case, the only person who really knows will let us know in a couple hours.

I'm just going to do what I usually do..be happy for those we get and wish the others farewell. While it's nice to get good recruits, I don't need to allow a 17 year old kid to get me worked up and then grossly disappointed.

I'm going to be mid-flight during his announcement. If there are any mgopilots in the Reno/Tahoe area, can you please skyline his decision for me? Block M for yes and a sad face for no. Much appreciation.

posted on Scout that this one looks good for us. I think Rivals Mike said it was NC St and Tom VH said this was going to be interesting  a few nights ago. He said he doesnt think this is a Sean Parker type of deal and he said unless Roseboro is the master of the shell game he is going with his Gut feeling and he wil expain after why he had the gut feeling.

The thing about choosing a school because you want to "stay close to home" is it's a nebulous, hard to argue, reason for someone to pick a school that, on paper, doesn't make sense for them - and it's the perfect cover for all kinds of other reasons that might not be above board.

where the local school after a big local recruit that is clearly losing the battle pulls this "don't you want to play in front of your family every week and won't you be homesick" desperate plea, and the kid buys into it.   With their program, that's about all NC State can offer him.   Hopefully, Mr. Roseboro goes with his gut feeling (which is usually the right one) about Michigan in this case and Goes Blue.

A lock, distance not a factor, only a matter of a month before he's yours. A month later they are far from a lock, distance is a major factor and everything you thought you knew went out the window HAHA. I'm so glad I lowered my recruiting concern to "normal levels" since mid-2013. I'd like to get him and other good recruits, I'll see who we get here but I go out of my way to avoid as much info as possible. For the first time since 2000 I cannot name every kid in our class off the top of my head. I love it. I just can't deal with the way recruiting has become its own entity and how it played with my perception (and love) of CFB/Michigan. Hope we get him as he is apparently very good but good luck to him either way. I truly don't care and I love it (as opposed to being incredulous over Hand and an earthquake simulator lol). Go Blue!
