Daren Kitchen - silent commit?

Submitted by BlizzardOfOz on

I was thinking about the situation with the verbal offer to Daren Kitchen.   It seemed as though a Hello post was imminent and simply waiting on RR to sign off on a written offer.

I expected that to happen by now.  Since it (apparently) has not - it got me wondering if he might be a silent commit.

We already have two commits at the CB position.  Kitchen would make 3 and potentially cause other DB recruits to look elsewhere.  It seems we are still interested in prospects such as Avery Walls and perhaps Valdez Showers.

Maybe I'm way off on this but does anyone think it's possible that Kitchen was asked to be a silent commit in this case?

Well, this staff has sent out offers to kids where they can only commit under certain circumstances (i.e. Travis Williams last year) Some offers are even non-committable; used to gauge propsect's interest?  I'd guess that Kitchen is a backup plan, and staff wants to see what happens with some higher priority targets (Showers, Jarrett, Chestnutt).  Walls is a safety, and we need one in this class, so Kitchen's commitment shouldn't affect him.

I think I remember Sam saying on the recruiting roundup earlier this week that Kitchens had not been offered. However, even if I'm not remembering correctly, he may have worded it in a way which wouldn't rule out some other type of offer.  Sorry, I don't remember which day it was...

Don't forget Dallas Crawford as another DB target.

Kal posted a while back with the "places your wife won't have sex with you" post, which pops into my head and causes a smile any time showers or kitchen is referenced.  i will forever +1 Kal if either of these guys comes to UM.

The recruiting board has him as Mr. Blue, says he was waiting for an M offer and has received one. He hasn't committed yet, though, according to the board. I suppose he could tell the staff he is going to commit but not announce it? I'm sure if they asked him to do so he would be okay with that.
