Dantonio shows a little class, credits Denard
I spent part of the afternoon speculating that Dantonio's anger management specialist must be a fellow UM alumni... gotta appreciate this a little (just a little...)

First he admits he's a douchebag by spouting off at the mouth, when he wants to kiss Denard's ass.
October 20th, 2012 at 9:45 PM ^
Yours is the quote of the month.... thats EXACTLY right... this newfound respect Dantonio shows is obviously quite contrived..... I don't like the title of the post referring to a "litte class" crediting Denard.....
and THE MEDIA SHOULD SAY IT AS SUCH AND CALL HIS ASS OUT ON IT.
October 20th, 2012 at 9:43 PM ^
I personally think, although he is a bitter bitter man who doesn't smile, he has focused a little of that hatred towards Urban who is disrespecting them now.
Btw those helmets were kinda ugly. Why does everyone steal Oregons ideas?
October 20th, 2012 at 9:47 PM ^
Don't fall for it... its as Brown Bear says, and Dantonio is now showing respect because he knows whats coming..... my goodness, don't say that crap please that now Dantonio is showing respect, because its quite insulting to think that its not contrived.
October 20th, 2012 at 10:16 PM ^
... is quite insulting.
People should stop hating on D'Antonio. He's a good coach who has had our number several years in a row. We beat MSU this year, and hopefully order is restored. Being so petty towards an opposing team's coach should be below us. Celebrate the victory by being happy not spiteful.

Nike paid for and designed them. That might have something to do with it.
October 21st, 2012 at 1:09 AM ^
I don't understand that. What's in it for Nike? Alternate uniforms, I can see - people might buy those. But is there a market for an alternate helmet?

He's been considerably less douchey for this year. Maybe he's actually reformed a bit, maybe he finally got scared (and therefore less cocky), who knows. I think it showed a bit in the game, too, when neither team played terribly dirty. Still a douche to be sure, but just a little credit where I see it to be due.
October 20th, 2012 at 10:01 PM ^
Will do that for you. But he also knew it wouldn't last forever.
October 20th, 2012 at 11:13 PM ^
but he still isn't a real grownup.
October 20th, 2012 at 9:48 PM ^
I didn't notice any dirty plays this year. I wish a flag would have been thrown when Denard got clubbed in the head on his pass to Gardner, but I don't think that was a flagrant or dirty foul.

Edited because I somehow double posted. So um. For entertainment purposes I am currently being forced to watch ACC football and my adorable Southern friends are all "it is a ONE TOUCHDOWN GAME YALL" about UNC/Duke and I just cannot.
October 20th, 2012 at 11:14 PM ^
I like how your edited double post is longer and more detailed, albeit about a different topic entirely, than the unedited copy.

I write for a living, I can't help myself CAPTIVE AUDIENCE!
October 20th, 2012 at 9:48 PM ^
In Dantonio, that's basically warm and fuzzy.
October 20th, 2012 at 9:51 PM ^
Credit his (speculative) UM grad shrink... (and the fact that the tables are turning.)
October 20th, 2012 at 9:49 PM ^
He went out to midfield, away from the tunnel, to find Hoke. They shook hands, Dantonio shared words with Hoke. Very cordial.
These are the first nice words I have ever written about Dantonio.
October 20th, 2012 at 9:57 PM ^
Honestly, I think that's preferable to last year's romantical mid-field embrace.
October 20th, 2012 at 10:19 PM ^
Dantonio out coached Hoke with a lesser team and we got lucky to win. I will wait for the big snowflakes tomorrow.
October 20th, 2012 at 11:01 PM ^
"He did the same thing that every coach does" sure is some faint-praise damnation.
I have noticed a slight thaw in the usual Dantonio douchery, however. I wonder if it stems from the recruiting forum thing and perhaps a realization that one can only get away with being a douche for so long before people whose opinions you care about start calling you one.
October 20th, 2012 at 11:14 PM ^
...had begun to talk about Dantonio's douchebaggery. Since OSU is his dream job, he probably felt like he needed to dial it back a bit.
October 20th, 2012 at 10:00 PM ^
I saw an interview with him this week and he pretty fell all over Hoke, saying that he wished he (Dantonio) should learn how to conduct himself as well as Hoke.
October 21st, 2012 at 12:29 AM ^
I saw that too. It was weird.

Maybe it's me, but it doesn't feel like he is saying anything more than Denard is a good player. Sure, that is credit in the technical sense, but I'm still not seeing a guy who doesn't spend 364 days a year trying to beat UM.

now know where the threat is. The #spartandawgs are no longer a threat for the B1G title, just an annoying pest. Who cares what he said today, we saw his true colors the past 4 years and ol' snaggle teeth is not a nice person nor will he ever be. He is a smug prick and M needs to continue to pummel them in recruiting and on the field.

Either that or I am way off and he just sees the writing on the wall of how bad it's going to get for him in the next few years.
October 20th, 2012 at 10:38 PM ^
I've always thought Dantonio to be very childish but I am very impressed with him for this game. MSU was able to control emotions very well and avoid costly penalties for the most part. This post game presser is just icing on the cake. I hope that Hoke and Dantonio will be able to compete for many years with this level of sportmanship from both teams.

because he didn't have much other choice. When his teams were a good bit better, he was more than happy to mouth off. Now that we have the better team (barely), he's all like "Well we respect Michigan". Ok Mark, sure thing

I think he learned his lesson after the offseason. He had the "laying in the weeds" and "where's the threat" comments and his whole coaching seminar debacle where he acted like a dick towards our coach. Think he realized that his behavior was unbecoming. Seemed like he's turned over a new leaf since the season actually started. At least in regards to UofM. His "next question" press conference was pretty typical though.

earlier this week.
Both MSU coaches have struck a more conciliatory tone it would seem...
October 21st, 2012 at 8:33 AM ^
Granted Braxton is learning how to throw the ball, but Denard is the B1G leading rusher for QBs and is on his way to being the NCAA leader in that category. You don't compare him to other running QBs. You compare all of them to him.
October 21st, 2012 at 1:03 AM ^
I believe under Coach D's rules, Denard is tall enough to respect.
October 21st, 2012 at 2:57 AM ^
He would have taken the opportunity to turn this into a condescending, douchey statement had MSU won. I'm not impressed still. However, I do I agree with what was said previously about him toning it down a bit this season. I was pleasantly surprised when he told his players who were tweeting about Denard during Bama to basically shut the hell up.
