Dantonio Presser - "Off the Pickle Boat"

Submitted by Michiganguy19 on

Obviously the MSU Opener @Wisco is a big one for Sparty. Depending on how it goes... it could lead to a real interesting game verse Michigan the following week.

I dont think there will be much joy in the EL, if the matchup is MSU (1-3) v. UofM (4-0). So it is safe to say that this is a really important Big 10 opener for the current "owners" of the state of Michigan.

Obviously I think Michigan fans have to be pulling for Wisco, a MSU team on a 3 game losing skid, would be a nice 5th opponent this year - not to mention a good match for our first road game.

One great quote...Talking about the last INT and Kirk Cousins.

"Whoever is talking out there like that, the end result is if he would have scored they would be talking about him like he is Joe Montana. Rather than Joe off the pickle boat."

Apparently according to:

www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=pickle%20boat

Historically, a fishing boat that would fish for pickled herring would come in to dock last. So "coming in off the pickle boat" or "falling off the pickle boat" would mean that you're the last to find something out or that you have come in last place.

I guess this is a good phrase for an "off the pickle boat sparty" to know.

regardless of the outcome of Wisco game, I suspect. Rivalry game, etc., "throw out all the records" and any other cliches, even ones about pickles.

I'll have my imaginary Badger hat on anyway Saturday. Jump around!

UM has three distinct advantages going into EL.

1. UM is better than most thought they would be.

2. MSU is far worse than most thought they would be.

3. MSU has to play Wisky the week before, who are always physical and drain their opponents, leaving them a bit tired for their next game.

Incidentally, that is one reason I have been extremely pissed at the BT schedule-makers for a long time, now. They seem to have decided that making UM play Wisky and OSU back-to-back is "fair scheduling," while OSU has often gotten schools like NW to play before playing UM.

It isn't supposed to matter in a rivalry game, but it certainly can make a difference in the fourth quarter.

I think I'll be rooting for State, because there's a saying that some of you might have heard before: "You never want to face a team the week after they lose". This is my sentiment on this, especially since its a rivalry and MSU will be really fired up.

I'd always rather play a team after it loses. Losing takes a lot out of you emotionally. It makes guys question themselves and point fingers. It's not a good thing to experience.

MSU is not going to be any more fired up at 1-3 than it would be at 2-2. Accordingly, I want them to lose and fall into self-doubt.
