Been discussed.
He would certainly bolt for OSU if offered, but there have to be at least 6 or 7 names ahead of him on their short list.

Ohio State needs a Michigan Man. They tried the Youngstown State thing, it just didn't work out. It was a cultutral thing. Nobody's fault, really. It was just too much for Tressel to overcome. A Michigan Man would understand the tradition and the traditional rivalries. How to recruit in Ohio. A Michigan Man would know the words to Carmen, Ohio.

with as few scruples as Dantonio being the first hire after Tressel? As much as I don't respect the OSU administration, they aren't THAT stupid. If they ever want to be off their (inevitable) probation, they will do very well to steer clear of "night(club) blindness" Dantonio.

Bucknuts has like 2 coaching threads up: one is an open discussion on the SI/ESPN article on the topic. the other is "Anyone but Dantonio."

He's like what Hoke was on this blog but, you know, without the assistant team or likability or clean record of discipline.

The only thing that's certain is that OSU will choose a coach without any dirt or baggage. A program in this much jeopardy has no room for error. So they won't go for Dantonio. I suspect Meyer might be a no as well. OSU doesn't want to answer to all the bad apples he had at Florida.
Plus, both of these coaches have stress-related health problems.

My first thought was to agree with this statement until they announced the interim coach. If they were serious about putting this behind them and showing the NCAA they were serious then they would have cleaned house, started a new coaching search, and even dismissed the players in question. Seems to me they are throwing more smoke screens up by keeping one of their own at the helm with little other change. Keep the secrets close to the vest. They are using the USC defense of deny deny deny.

If they did that, they might just as well not play football this season. Its the end of May. You can count the number of available coaches for any position, from head to special teams, on one hand. The only way to recooperate the half of your team you kicked off would be to pick random kids from the student body. They honestly probably wouldn't win a single game next year; definintely no B1G games.

Ron English is the best option. Michigan Man smart and a lifetime record of 1-20ish. Go on Ron. MD is fine too, I dont think hes that good of a coach.

After what's gone down under Tressel, do they really want a Tressel protégé? Dantonio was on the staff for some of the shenanigans.

On Karsh and Anderson this morning both seemed to think that Dantonio would choose not to go to OSU because of sanctions and the fact he is now entrenched at MSU. Seriously, if offered how could he not take the OSU job? Its going to a top 5/10 job from a school that football isn't number 1 at and has never been a consistent power.

It's still ohio state. Even during a scandal like this they can still do alot better than mark dantonio. Lists ive been reading so far as to who might take the job have looked something like this. Urban meyer, bob stoops, mark dantonio, chris peterson, gary patterson, and of course jon gruden because he is named in every major football teams search for a new coach. I can't wait until the infractions come out, and no one wants the job so they hire bill lynch.

He'd go if asked, but my guess is that OSU wants someone sexier for a position that is still very prestigious. The only way I see them pulling the trigger is if they want someone with roots who comes in with no real baggage from the sanctions, since some of the names I've heard are basically recent assistants/coordinators. But if he does wind up at OSU, I think the fans would turn on him pretty quickly once his deficiencies as a coach rose beyond what the talent at OSU could cover up.

OSU is not in a position to hire someone sexy. They will need to get someone who Gee and the next AD can control, instead of the other way around. I think Dantonio is a guy they'd consider with his background. That said, if I were OSU, I would be skeptical of anyone having had any involvement in with OSU in the past if the cheating is as pervasive and institutionally sanctined as the SI article supposedly suggests.

Per BoDog, you can get 12/1 odds that Dantonio will be the OSU head coach in 2012

That makes him the longshot after Urbs, 3/2; Mark Stoops 5/2; Gruden 3/1; Pellini 10/1 and Mork, 12/1
