Dantonio makes another dumb comment about Michigan

More Dantonio on that: "If they’re in the conference with us, that’s their problem. Right? They’re the ones that have to deal with it.”    Is this like laying in the weeds and haven't we been in the same conference as them since 1950?

Dudes two seasons of fame ended a couple of years ago...Why do we care what he has to say again?

Thadmattasagoblin, the threads you've been starting lately have been plentiful and of below average quality, even by offseason standards. C'mon man, you're better than this...

I don't understand all of the Dantonio hate.  He has been extremely succesful against us during his career at Michigan State so far; and having graduated from the University of Michigan last May, I especially felt the bite.  Put yourself in the Spartans' shoes, wouldn't you want a coach who is confident?  Coach Dantoio is playing his part well, and it would be impossible for the Spartans to beat us unless Dantonio truly believed his team is superior.  But every time he talks about the Spartans being a superior team, we all laugh at him about it. The reason why the Spartans have played so well against us is because of these comments made by Dantonio.  I hate the guy, but I also respect him.

Agreed 100 percent with you. He is a great football coach, and he is an excellent judge of talent. He most likely obsesses about Michigan a lot less than we would think.

I really think it is a good response to the question. No one wants a coach that says, yes I'm scared, we should be scared. If you don't think you're the best there is something wrong with you.

How can you not hate Dantonio?  He is such a weenie and his utter dispise for Michigan continues to slip through in comments like this.  Granted this comment is pretty tame and not much there but there is something there. I have no respect for the guy ever since he got down in the mud with Mike Hart.

Why is this a post? If I cared about everything Dantonio says I'd be a Spartan. No one cares, stop posting.

Honestly, who cares if he hates us and says moronic things about Michigan sometimes (although I don't necessarily think that is the case this time)?  I prefer it that way.  To me, Mark Dantonio has proven that he has a singular focus on Michigan every year, even at the expense of other games.  This limits their growth as a program and virtually guarantees that they will never, ever completely dig themselves out of the position they currently find themselves in under his leadership.

Why all the whining and crying about this post?  Sure it isn't headline material but it is a bit entertaining to read about.  It's not like this post is trying to make it bulliten board material, it is just another strange comment Dantonio made due to his pure hate for Michigan. People need to realize this is for entertainment and get over themselves...

Whining about people whining isn't making you sound any better. But anyways, this board does a good job at policing itself. You haven't been around too long, but you'll come to realize the quality of topics is part of what makes this a great site, and in the end, that self policing (that you call whining) helps sustain those high standards.

you whining about him whining about other people whining is not making you sound any better. The point is people should add to the discussion or move on. This whole self policing crap has gotten out of hand. It's bringing the board down way more then the so called bad topics are.

Anyway I think the comments by Dantanio are perfectly fine. Actually I prefer that response to the typical no doubt it's going to be a tough division to win..were going to have to be at our best type remarks I would expect most coaches to throw out. On another note I kind of think Dantonio has softened a bit over the last year. I think he actually gained some respect for Hoke lately. Or maybe he realised just how dumb he looked interrupting Hecklinski and decided to change..but he hasn't seem like such a redass lately to me. Am I crazy? Anyone else notice this?

Well, your whining about me whining about....meh, I'm already over it.  Say what you will, but self policing is a part of this site, and will continue to be until meaningful voting makes its return (which, per Brian, isn't too far off).   Also, when a OP has 3 upvotes vs. 43 downvotes, it's not really the thread to criticize the drastic majority that is vocally chastising the OP.

But yeah, I'm with you in that I didn't see anything wrong with what he said.  The quote as the OP presented it was taken out of context and I don't think was intended towards us specifically.  The quote in fact seems to make perfect sense and is something you'd expect, as well as hope, a coach of a school that's always stuck under other team's shadow should respond.  I enjoy making fun of Dantonio's over the top sound bytes, but this just isn't one of those.  However, as far as him softening his stance on Michigan, I'm not sure if that's the case, but it was probably a lot easier (for multiple reasons) for him to show a little more restraint towards us since Hoke became coach when compared to our last staff.

...around much longer. Either Sparty's little run is over or he keeps doing well for two more years and leaves for a real job like "the savior". MSU football is still a stepping-stone job.

He has to be talking about someone other than UM. Though this post does prove that if post something about MSU talking poorly of the wolverines, you'll get some traffic.

Not even on my radar screen. Their attention and envy of us is impressve. Im surprised at how many of their FRANDOR fans watch all our games. Really?

I'd worry about his running back situation. The entire sports world knows they're screwed at QB but with no Bell, it's going to be Really hard for their defense to hold up.

I enjoy Mark Dantonio.  He is a good coach that will ensure MSU always has a tough D.

He will never put MSU over the top.  He will always be a dollar short, in part because the man is a weirdo.  He is not going to sign the killer recruiting class, given the way he is.

It is a better MSU under Dantonio, but they will continue to be Michigan Lite going forward.

In short, thank you for posting.  I continue to be amused by his retarded statements.

Yes they are cheaters and dirty players.  But our record against THE douchebag U has been appauling over the last 10 years in both Manball and B-ball.  We got to start a win streak and take everyone down convincingly for a while to shut everyone up.

To anyone. On topic, it's funny to me that a comment by that idiot in E. Lansing triggers thoughts of our true rival, OSU. Damntonio knows they are losing ground in the conference, now where's the threat? I do agree a win streak is in order against the nuts, and possibly on the way. I would prefer a back and forth fight, tho.

To prove to the MSU and Ohio fanbases and prospective recruits that "This is Michigan" and back up the tradition of winning.  As a huge fan, it has been difficult arguing against Ohio fans since they have had our number in Football.  (And, MSU and Ohio have dominated our basketball team).  Yes, Michigan can fall back on the total wins and number of championships but we have little recent wins to push back on our rivals.

I know that we will have our hands full against both teams in football.  I can't stand the thought of losing to the smugness of Meyer and Dantonio.  But they have earned the right to be smug.  Meyer has won championships and Dantonio has a winning record against the Wolverines.

I know Hoke and Mattison are building for the future (Beilein too).  But, I think this is an important year for these rivalries and the stakes are very high.  If we run the table against Ohio and MSU (in bball and football), we could really bolster our perception amongst the elite recruits.

And we can really make a statement to their idiot fans that Michigan is back.
