Dantonio-Hecklinski incident at MHSFCA clinic today
Dantonio got up and spoke about their season, Cousins, BK Cunningham and MSU. Hecklinski got up and presented how Michigan sets up their recruiting-recruit the state of Michigan first, then the Midwest, and then nationally.
Dantonio then burst in, interrupts Hecklinski and yells, "We're not here to listen to this. Move on!"
Many coaches in the room were stunned and many lost respect for State and Dantonio because of the incident. To Hecklinski's credit, he didn't add to the childish behavior and represented Michigan with class and honor.
Most coaches were stunned but the jealous, anger-filled behavior turned a lot of people off. Other coaches on the panel were visibly bothered by this unprofessional behavior.
speedy turn around and who is giving the deuces behind dantonio?
the situation?
are correct, sir. Sparty Shore.
Pretty sure it's Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
I think I love you.
Was it too soon for that? I'm sorry. That was awkward, wasn't it?
Stay Class Sparty
Hecklinski? More like Heckling-Me!
I am dying to see a video or hear an audio of this.
??
Detnews and Freep both up with articles of the incident. Looks like this one just might have some legs
http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20120120/SPORTS0202/201200459/1361/Mi...
Who is this Charboneau guy that wrote that? It's pretty subtly proDantonio. Doesn't mention the fact that Dantonio already had a chance to speak before that, and it says it was a forum, as if to suggest that all the coaches were supposed to be involved but Hecklinski was stealing the show. It was a speech. If it was an open forum I think the organizers would have probably had all the other coaches onstage already don't you? Dantonio really is the douchiest of them all.
Ps. Does anyone else have a problem clicking on detnews links? Every time I click them my browser shuts down and I have to reset it... This is actually the first time it didn't happen, but when I clicked the link again a second time it shut down. Not very tech savvy over here but that seems strange to me.
Honestly, all the articles are really wishy washy on the details. It doesn't really sound like any of the authors were actually there, just second hand reports and quoting of the MLive article. It really just seems like they don't have a good handle on the specifics of the situation rather than any bias one way or the other.
Seems like it was a time for all the coaches to briefly introduce themselves and Heck went on to give a presentation/speech before the actual panel started. Too much biased opinion out there bending this one way or another. Misunderstanding on all sides is what it seems to boild down to. An actualy video/audio of this panel would clear this all up for everyone.
He's a joke
I believe Charboneau is the MSU writer just like Chengelis is the Michigan writer for the Detroit News.
Chengelis knows she is writing for the News. Charboneau on the other hand, acts more like an MSU employee.
Mark Dantonio is going to need surgery to re-attach his dick after stepping on it so violently in front of so many people whose good regard he needs. People who are going to be furiously texting, emailing, and talking about his ridiculous little snit for weeks and months.
I would flat out call Dantonio a douche to his face. I know people always say, "Yeah it would be different if you met the person face to face, blah blah."
Not this situation, I would rip into this guy.
Is there going to be video of this somewhere? I'd love to pass it around to some of my Sparty acquaintances.
...and his flamming bag of butthurt twords Michigan.
And not surprisingly, their reactions are ZOMG DANTONIO IS SO AWESOME FOR STANDING UP TO BIG BROTHER YEAH WE'RE DONE TAKING SHIT FROM scUM!!!!!!
I actually can't wait until we blow them out in the big house next year. Dantionio might be my least favorite sports figure in the world right now. The dude actually has a half-way decent team but he's so angry at Mike Hart still that he won't even smile.. no wonder he has health issues. That isn't healthy!
You've had two good seasons. Don't forget the losing record you put up 3 years ago. I'd be concerned about your slipping basketball program. Your Football program has never mattered and it never will. Your coaches are getting to be downright embarrassing.
Once again, a Michigan coach shows decorum when none is given in kind by a coach for our much-esteemed in-state rival. Scenes like this make me love my alma mater even more, as she taught me to be a better person than that, among other things.
The Det news version makes Dantonio look curiously in the right. it at least leaves room for it. Curious how Hecklinski was made to look like he got his hand caught in the cookie jar.
From this account, he appears ridiculously juvenile. I wonder if this verson will appear in the media. I am so sick of spin. I just hope the story comes out and puts Dantonio in him place.
It's never too late to edit Dantonio's wikipedia page regarding the incident.
Regardless of how it gets spun by the media, what matters is how it was perceived by those in attendance in that room. If MD looked like as much of a douche as the OP indicated, then the damage is done, and that could affect recruiting in the only place in the country where at least a few people give a shit about MSU.
Immature, but funny none the less. I never liked the little brother comment when it first came out, but in hind sight, it was genius.
The MSU culture has evolved into a community of insecure people. It's sad really.
It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine!
Go Blue!
around here, they have always been insecure. They just have a poster child now.
It's never been about what they accomplish its always been about how it compared to Michigan.
Which is why they will always be Little Brother no matter what happens on the field
Not only did I grow up in Lansing but I was a State fan until it came time to pick a college. Then I got serious and turned from green to blue and haven't looked back since. But yeah, they should have a picture of Sparty as the definition of "inferiority complex."
I was supposed to head down to the clinic. Four of the guys I coach with made the trip. I'm disappointed that I missed more than just the bars tonight.
Glad that UM took the high road in this especially when MSU always tries to take the low road.
Appear to be the ultimate Woody Hayes Wannabees. But Woody won big for a long time Dickhead Dantonio.
Izzo, I don't get it. I am waiting for his tackling an opponent that is on a fast break.
Kickin' in the front seat
Kickin in the back seat
Which seat should I take . . .
Lighthen up!
Wonder if Dantonio would have tried that if Hoke was talking...
Anyways, this is a partisan Rorschach test. It does display to high school coaches what their kids will be getting themselves into though.
Hoke would have pointed at him and Dantonio's last two 4-star recruits would have disappeared.
This USA Today article puts him in a worse light than the OP. Seems like the event organizer went on to kiss his ass though, trying to smooth it over for him.
Dantonio = Kanye West
Jeff, I'm really happy for you and I'll let you finish, but MSU recruits nationally now!
Here is what I do not get... If you really wanted to be the smart coach, you would pay attention to what your rival has to say... write it down, go home and figure out the weaknesses and benefit from those weaknesses.
The coaching staff in E.L. has the same maturity level as the elementary school down the road from me...
This is the kind of guy that when you get to 48 points, you go for two to put 50 on him.
USA Today has a story about the incident, and Dantonio comes out as dickish as you would expect, and I certainly would see why coaches would be a little taken aback.
Not only did Dantonio give a 15 minute presentation, but he was supposed to leave after he was done with that.
Wow. I had assumed that this whole thing might have been getting slightly exaggerated, but if those are anything close to direct quotes, that's damning.
"OK, here's what we're going to do," Dantonio said. "We're going to get other people up here. We're going to talk about more than the University of Michigan.
"How many guys got a guy that's going to play in the Big Ten?" Dantonio asked the high school coaches. After a couple raised their hands, Dantonio said: "One, two - so the two guys can go back there in the corner and talk about that. All of us right here, we're going to talk about recruiting for everybody. Let's go."
To interrupt a guy in the middle of a presentation point blank like that as if he's the king of the conference is simply unprofessional no matter what way you look at it. And that's putting it nicely. Especially in the way he did it.
Inferiority complex much?
What a dumb ass. If he was smart he would have been taking notes.
Good god. Why did Dantonio think he was the moderator? Was there an actual moderator?
If anyone has not read the USA Today article, you should. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/bigten/story/2012-01-20/michigan-state-dantonio-michigan-coaching-clinic/52700868/1 Some very nice quotes. It was written impartially, and without trying to lay blame. Nonetheless, Dantonio comes off as a horse's arse.
Apparently he thought he ought to play moderator, even though he knew he wasn't:.
Let's go."
After a couple awkward seconds of silence, Wayne State coach Paul Winters, Siena Heights coach Jim Lyall and former Alma coach Jim Cole were brought up to participate on the panel -- and Hecklinski's time was done.
Larry Merx of the coaches association said there was a misunderstanding on the format because Dantonio decided to stay for the entire 90-minute panel discussion, rather than leave after giving a 15-minute presentation, as he had planned."
"I really didn't know how this was all going to work, this forum," Dantonio said. "This is the first time we've ever done this, and I just didn't know how this was going to work, and I didn't want it to become a recruiting presentation."
This is. Just. Classic.
He "didn't want it to become a recruiting presentation"? Who asked him? Was he involved in the planning & presentation of this event?....This is like getting invited to give a Toast at a friends anniversary party, and then interrupting one of the other invited guests when THEY are giving THEIR toast!!!...This is like getting invited to your Nieces High School Play, and then standing up and delaring that the actors are misinterpreting their lines!!! UNREAL....Let's not forget that this is the man who responded to Paul W Smiths question (on a live radio interview) about his (MD's) impressions of UM's new Football coach (RR), by answering, "This isn't a Michigan Coach you're talking to Paul. I coach at MSU & I'd appreciate if you'd ask me questions about MSU" ??? !!! The words were bad enough, but it was his TONE!
Also, after the success of the Proud Michigan Hater IZZO, it seems clear to me that Hollis has decided to hire ONLY other Proud Michigan Haters... The thing that set MD apart in his interview process was that HE CLEARLY HATED MICHIGAN. This please Hollis very much :) ... Take a look (and a listen) to ST8's new Hockey Coach, and lets remember how he ran the CCHA. Please take a look at his postgame handshakes with Red this year, HE CLEARLY HATES MICHIGAN, & this pleases Hollis very much :)... Please recall how he worked to change the voters preceptions of what the CCHA's "Coach of the Year" award should be about; It should become an award to recognize that years best over-achieving coach, instead of what it used to be, simply an award for the best coach, period! He knew that if the members voted for the best coach period, Red would win once every few years. And he couldn't have that...Folks, it begins & ends with Hollis; He LOVES to hate Michigan.
Interesting that I haven't seen anything in this or other related threads from the OP who apparently was present at the event ...
and it doesnt matter if he was there or not. Dantonio is an asshat and I hope he continues his meltdown. I understand that Um Health System has a world class mental health program. Maybe we can help him!?!
