Dantofreude

Submitted by Eye of the Tiger on

I would like to introduce a new term into our mgovocabulary:

Dantofreude (noun) - Pleasure at the discomfort of Mark Dantonio, in his capacity as coach of Little Brother.

I believe we need this new term, because in his short-term success, Little Brother has grown intolerable.  Little Brother reveres Dantonio, elevating him to mythic status among the green brethren.  Ergo, any cause for Dantofreude reminds Little Brother that he remains, well, Little Brother.  Little Brother, like Icarus, flies too close to the sun.  Ergo, it is for his own good.

Completely in favor of reminding little brother that their greatest triumphs came when we were down. That's why they're little bro. Little bro can't beat big bro at the top of his game

A win is a win is a win is a win.

This is the same one used by MSU fans in respect to basketball.  When either fanbase uses the excuse, however, it is still stupid.  It's one of the worst types of excuses, "well you only won because we weren't good." What the hell is that?  You just bashed your team while feebly making a poor, useless, and irrelevent excuse.

The most convincing thing is last year's result, especially when it was the same as the two previous results.  They won, so they justifiably have bragging rights.  It's our job to win them back.

I feel like terms like that really give MSU more status than they deserve.  I think we're better than "Spartina", "Dumbtonio", et al.  Besides, MSU fans probably don't even understand "schadenfreude"... so the etymology of "Dantofreude" would just be beyond them.

Better not tell Brady Hoke you don't like referring to TSIO as Ohio.  If you disagree with the "Ohio" name, I mean come on Brady Hoke respects them but he has such strong dislike of giving them their full name.  Sorry but I love that Brady Hoke wont refer to That School In Ohio by name.  Shows he understands how much Michigan hates them!  So Dumbtonio is well, dumb, Spartina is lame and O$U is deserving especially after all the allegations.  To me it seems like someone is just trying to agree with someone without getting the full idea.

i recently spoke with a sparty fan who did not know what schadenfreude meant so there is hardly a better chance any of them would know dantofreude.  waaaay over their heads.

I like to call Dantonio: "Dantonio"

I like to call Michigan State: "Michigan State", "MSU", or simply "State"

I don't usually use the term but when I do I like to say "schadenfreude".

Also, I like my beer cold, my TV loud, and my homosexuals FLAMING!

but I always refer to him as Dan Antonio with my Spartan friend at work when I'm joking with him about their Jackson recruiting, as we've heard countless people call him that on the radio. It's one of of those small slights against someone when they don't get the full respect of knowing his name exactly. I guess I could call him Don too to get the same effect.

stop with the stupid nicknames?... At least until we beat them on the field. The guy has won 3 straight against us, until that changes we really don't get to smack talk

Obviously I hope um destroys MSU but I think it would be great for the countdown clock to come down after one year and be put away in a crate "lost ark style.".

To condescend when we're losing. Let's just let them complain that no one's paying attention to their B1G championship and then run over them in October.

where we just beat them and consider them irrelevant would be nice. Let's argue with people that are actually our rivals (OSU, etc).

No need for dumb monikers. Leave that to MSU grads (scUM, cHoke, etc.). Also i honestly don't think they know what schadenfreude means...

I really hope that Saint Dantonio applies for the TSIO job, doesn't get it, and Sparty finds out.  Then, they will revoke his sainthood and he Spartan fans will start harping on every little thing he does wrong.  They might even wake up and see that their team is in danger of replacing the green and white with jumpsuit orange.

that Izzo got for listening to the Cleveland offer.  Personally I thought he shouldn't go (may be my bias about college sports and the success he's had), but in the end he chose to stay. There was a lot of anger out of EL though about him even listening. I figured after 15 great years, he had earned a little more respect than that. With only 4 yrs, Dantonio would possibly get even worse, although the level of disdain could prove that football is just not that important to most of them.
