alternate headline: man does job
Right after you dumped her anyway.
As a buddy once said to me as a chunky ex walked by... Good fold.
Care to repeat it?
Tom basically said that there was a secret visitor who is currently committed to another school. He didn't say any more.
the player is an ESPN 4*, however, O'Brien is only 3*'s on ESPN.
Could it be Dunn?
Isn't he already enrolled?
Good question. Is he? I really want to know.
As the guy said below, I checked the OSU student directory and Dunn is not in there. I dont think its him
Dunn is NOT in there? How does that make you think it's not him?
I also checked for Braxton Miller and the borens. Miller is not in there but Borens are. I dont want to cause any further controversy, but this is what the OSU directory has for right now. Its fairly simple to see on the internet.
I meant not him by saying I dont think its Dunn visiting. Sorry about that.
or possibly Jordan Payton......dunn,dunn, dunn!
I'm just curious. Reeves seems to be the obvious guess.
I think it's pretty common knowledge that there's mutual interest between Reeves and Michigan.
Its not Reeves because he has a visit planned for this week, therefore, he would not be considered a secret visitor.
Reeves hasn't exactly been shy about his desire to explore his options. Didn't he publicly announce his Michigan visit?
O'Brien tweeted something like "Vol4Life" when he was asked about this stuff during the Arnett thing. I don't think he's going anywhere.
Vole4Life is catchier
Not Danny O! Tom talked to him today and he is staying with Tenn. If he does change his mind he said he would go to Alabama.
So no Obrien obviously.
I hope it's not OL. With Garnett looking more optimistic, I really think 6 players is enough. I'd like to see another stud DL, QB or RB.
TomVH also stated he was a 4 star recruit. Espn has O'Brien has a 3 star recruit.
also said the prospect would not be visiting this weekend. If he visits (which is not set up yet) it would be next weekend.
don't you think he was referring to reeves?
We don't think it's Reeves because his visit to Michigan is fairly public, which is far from "secret." I'm sure Tom wouldn't have a mentioned a secret visit in relation to Armani since it is common knowledge that he is visitng this weekend.
to us but secret to the rest of the nation. Remember Tom is speaking to a National audience now. He had to be cryptic to them to get the readers interested.
I thought this was the dude who is committed to ASU, Evan Goodman. Rumor around the campfire is he'll be in town this weekend.
Yes you win. I saw this earlier today as well.
I've heard his name tossed around too, but according to his Rivals page, he's already taken four officials and is taking his fifth this weekend to Arkansas.
Now, switching his official from Arkansas to Michigan wouldn't be a big deal, but then why does it need to be a secret? If ASU already knows he has an official scheduled for this weekend, why would switching that official to a different school need to be a secret? Especially since all four of his officials that he's taken have been since his commitment to ASU.
He might also be visiting, but it doesn't add up why he'd want it to be a secret.
Check out his ESPN page. It lists a visit to Michigan for this weekend - Jan. 13.
Even more reason to suggest he's not a secret visitor.
and the visit date is not so subtle
if I'm acting like I know something when I clearly don't, is 6'4" a little shorter than optimal for OT?
It is shorter than optimal, but it's not prohibitive. Arm length is more important for a tackle than height, it just usually happens that taller guys have longer arms. Matt Light is 6'4" I think, and he's a tackle.
Most top tackle are 6'6"+, but there are good ones in the 6'4" to 6'5" range too.
Think it was Muller the OT committed to Rutgers but he confirmed he wasn't visiting.
Yep, Chris Muller, 6-6 298lbs OT from PA
Also, Pipkins was talking about it on Twitter. He's not a fan of O'Brien.
Understandably so. O'Brien had a very underwhelming year, especially for playing in a rather weak league.
That Obrien is lookin to decomit from Tenn and comit to Michigan. Again take it fwiw.
How was 93grad's post trolling? He made a reasonable comment about the current discussion and phrased it courteously. Am I missing something
His spelling and grammar is atrocious.
his spelling and grammer ARE atrocious. No?
You just misspelled "grammar". We all make mistakes. Unless you mean Kelsey Grammer is atrocious. He was good on Cheers though. Besides, unless they have a tight relationship, he wouldn't be "his" Kelsey Grammer . . .
This whole series of comments just made me laugh out loud. I marked all comments accordingly.
I'm not sure if you are serious or not (cue the Joker picture), but it any event is it me or does it seem like every other post is getting negged lately for no apparent reason? I know it's taboo to discuss points but it just seems like there is a strange and recent trend to throw out arbitrary negs.
I really don't know why you have to speculate about this. Tom says that the kid doesn't want anything out there about it becuase he's committed elsewhere and doesn't want to jeopardize his spot and you feel the need to start rumors about who it might be. Doesn't make any sense to me.
Look, if Tom really wanted to keep it a secret, he wouldn't have said anything about it at all. I think throwing out little "hints" about "secrets" means that speculation is fair game.
Rumor? I just said I wondered if it was him. Guess we can't wonder and speculate anymore.
Yes. When you start a threat titled "Danny O'Brien still an option?", that is how rumors start.
It was a 5 star recruit. He was wearing a red suit and had a big white beard. He had ti wait for the dead period before he could visit.
Rumor has it that kid is so fast he can cover the world in one night.
I heard he has serious weight issues
But I heard in the offseason he has a rigorous workout schedule that he sticks to and slims down the bad weight for football season to begin. I hear he pulls a massive sled in the offseason.
Our good friend TomVH has said as much and stated that without going into too much detail that if O'Brien did decommit...he still wouldn't choose Michigan
I thought I remember reading that the coaches weren't that high on O'Brien after they evaluated him and that's part of the reason he went to Tennessee.
You remember correctly. But, lets keep bringing the topic up until NSD!
Pee Wee say? Let him be the judge, afterall he shut Shutt out!
Let's say it is Danny oBrien. Would the coaches have to run that past pipkins? Or should they for courtesy? Or do they just do what they want and let commits decide how to respond when a recruit of the same position is coming in?
I don't think so...I think Dantanio would have ensured that he is as firm as possible given Arnett's history with commiting to MSU. However, I would love to be wrong in this instance.
You know this makes sense.
Total speculation. Let's say Aqua was right and that Dantonio really didn't want Arnett. His decision was between two schools MSU and Michigan pretty much. He committed right away. Maybe Dantonio made him an offer he couldn't refuse. As in, "you don't commit right now we will not take you." If he really said something along these lines and Michigan was serious on saying we only want two receivers then Arnett would be up shit's creek.
Yes, he technically can comitt to any program since he got the full release, but if he didn't stick to his guns who would take him? Talent is important but trust is also important as we've seen this year in recruiting.
Finishing the theory, Arnett committs to MSU but is generally interested in both schools but wants to have some choice.
By safely reserving his spot while secretly visiting UM he could retain some choice even if, hypothetically, Dantonio played hardball.
This is wild speculation but could explain some of the facts we've seen. We shall see.
Also, Hoke would consider him fair game since he hasn't signed the LOI yet.
This would be impossible. Arnett is already enrolled and has already moved into his dorm on campus.
Additionally, it doesn't make much sense of the comments that originally started the rumor, which discussed a 4* recruit who had already committed, therefore not a transfer.
Tom has said its a 4 star via espn. It's not goodman. He's committed to another school. He hasn't been on the radar at all. O'brien is a 3 star. So yeah I really don't think anyone is going to get it. I thought it was muller as well but apparently it's being denied.
According to ESPN it is Goodman but they have been wrong before.
I didn't make it clear. The seceret visitor isn't listed. Goodman has been for a while. Tom has never been able to get a hold of goodman but has talked to the mystery guy.
what we know or has been rumored
- hes a 4 star via espn
- he is commited
- he really hasn't been on our radar
Take it FWIW, but Evan Goodman's ESPN page lists a Michigan visit for this weekend, Jan. 13.
No, Tom has never been able to get a hold of him, but tom also knows who it is,so process of elimination it's not goodman.
I'm not sure if or where Tom said that, but, I'm more inclined to believe the page than you. Sorry.
Well since Tom covers Michigan recruiting, I would guess that he was theone who put it there. Secondly, with the exception of Tom, ESPN's recruiting website sucks and is hilariously inaccurate.
That's what I was getting at - that Tom is a likely source of that information.
I'm afraid you and a few others are missing the point. If it's listed on ESPN's visit page, it's not a secret. Goodman's visit has been up there for awhile btw. Tom mentioned there may be a surpise recruit coming in who doesn't want it known.
its in the forum on espn where we are having this same exact conversation
Ah. Fair enough. Thanks for the information, guys.
What about Burbridge or Dunn? Those two would make more sense than Danny O.
Burbridge would be incredible.
Funchess was recently asked about Burbridge and he said that Burbridge was very solid to MSU...so any developments there would be unexpected but welcome.
I think it's Burbridge. I posted why a bit further down
If Pipkins doesn't want O'Brien, we don't get O'Brien. He is our future
Pipkins is our top prospect for future press conferences also.
I hope Roundtree has a strong senior season, he was also pretty funny. "I'm hungry."
Based on all the evidence, that he's a 4 star to ESPN currently committed elsewhere, in addition to the fact that TVH stated that this unknown recruit's visit was being confirmed/denied by a current Michigan commit, I tend to believe that it is Burbridge
How cool would it be if getting Arnett actually pushes Burbrudge to us? I'd be really cool with that.
Do we have a current commit that has a relationship with Mr. Goodman?
To be honest, I haven't the slightest idea. This is purely my personal speculation
Kyle Dodson, OL committed to Wisconsin. Weren't there rumblings of him potentially visiting M/ re-opening his recruitment?
But he stated as much publically, no need for it to be a secret now.
Burbridge would make sense considering he just lost a chance at early playing time to Arnett and a lot of receptions.
Michigan definitely likes to steal a good one from MSU. Hope it is not related to Stornum.
It's someone who is currently committed, and who is afraid he'll lose his spot if his visit becomes public. I only know of one coach who has a hard-and-fast "visit = lost spot" rule:
That's right: it's probably a Michigan commit who is looking to visit Michigan, but who is afraid his Michigan scholarship could be in jeopardy once it gets back to Michigan that he visited Michigan.
Good theory. Only one problem - keeping his visit to Michigan a secret from Coach Hoke.
Hoke won't say anything to Hoke.
Are you sure he won't point it out?
I believe that Mack Brown and Chip Kelly have the same policy as well.
But from people I know at FHH, it may infact be Burbridge. There are rumblings that he hasn't been 100% comfortbale at MSU for a while now. Please take that with a grain of salt, but it comes from a pretty reliable source. Now do I think that Burbridge will end up at UM? In a word, no. But, I think he honestly wants to visit Michigan soon, because he may feel he made the wrong decision. I think the value of Shane Morris is really starting to sink in with him.
I don't believe you, sorry.
I don't believe he'll end up here, just commenting that someone I know that is always right, saying he may end up visiting. I don't claim to know anything, so there's really nothing to believe about my statement.
I really don't appreciate being called dishonest. I'm a very honest person, and my word means everything to me.
OL, ESPN 4 star, committed elsewhere. How about Issac Seumalo, Garnett's buddy. jg talked him into visiting, which is why jg is looking so good for us.
That would be awesome too, he's really good. He's one of the least talked about of the awesome group of West Coast OLs (probably because he's been an Oregon State commit since June) but he's certainly one of the best.
However, his Rivals profile shows that he's visiting USC this weekend. So again, if he's willing to be public about visiting SC, why would he need to be secretive about visiting us?
Thanks, I didnt see his visit to USC. I was make a semi-educated hopeful guess with Garnett and him in florida.
Woa! I bet it is Dunn! He would certainly want to keep that hush hush. (He is only 4star on ESPN)
Why would he want to visit again? He's been here twice in the span of two weeks, if he were going to commit here why wouldn't he have already done it?
Burbridge would also make sense considering he lives in Michigan. It would be very easy for him to take a secret visit one day, without even booking a flight.
Dunn could also be an option, especially if we're talking about a NSD switch. Michigan is a good fit for him, and he has every reason to keep the visit secret & wait until NSD, given OSU fan's reaction to Kalis switching. The location factor comes into play here, too.
Both of these guys are long shots, I know, just giving my two cents while we're talking about theories and rumors.
As I asked above, Doesn't OSU start class already and he is enrolled?
Actually I'm pretty sure Ohio starts up way after everyone else. That might be only for summer but I think their whole academic schedule is shifted later with some long breaks.
AS I stated above, there is no Dunn in the student directory. I dont think its him.
Unless you are saying you checked the UM student directory, doesn't that mean we have a chance with him if he isn't in OSU's student directory?
Regardless of what bluenyc meant, the OSU directory doesn't have Dunn in it.
My fault for not being clear. I checked to OSU directory and Dunn wasnt in there. I checked for Braxton Miller and the Borens. Miller wasnt in there but Borens were. So, maybe it some time of glitch, only certain members are in there.
I meant I dont think Dunn is the suprise vistor. Sorry, after reading my message, it was entirely clear.
With Dunn. He's all ready enrolled at classes at Ohio. So no shot it's him...
Aaron Burbridge is not it. I can assure you that. It'd be great, but it's not him.
You do know that Devin Funchess could've lied to you in order to protect his friend, right?
It's possible I suppose, but I didn't flat out ask him about Burbridge or his commitment to MSU at all. I asked what it would be like to play against him the next four years after being such tight teammates and he gave out a pretty good answer to the question. He'd be pretty crafty to just make that up on the spot.
I just talked to him about the rumors and he told me that Burbridge isn't even considering Michigan and that he is locked into Michigan state. I believe him over anyone else right now.
you were right about Arnett.....
Ouch. But yeah, you're right. I was wrong about that.
Russel Shell seems to be a likely candidate. I'm sure he likes Pitt, but the situation there might not be to his liking. ESPN 4 start, at a definite position of need for UM, and could be very interested in Michigan.
Yeah, but I heard his parents were wearing Pitt shorts down at the Semper Fidelis Bowl and I think Chryst would be perfect for a RB.
Shell would be awesome. His video looks way better than Dunn. Doubt it will happen...but you never know.
Would also be awesome. He's the real deal, and he's an ND commit. I can understand why he'd want to keep it quiet.
Especially because he's already enrolled and starts classes in a week.
End speculation. It's Jay Paterno.
BOOM. Lock the thread.
Kenny Crawley, DJ Foster or Jodan Diamond.
Well, neither Foster nor Diamond are committed anywhere, and Crawley has made it rather public that he wants to look around.
It'd be so awesome if it was DGB.
Maybe it's somebody like 4* Center Evan Boehm... Didn't he decommit from Mizzou, And Commit back to them?
He did, but he was also on our radar. The rumor is about someone not on our radar.
Kind of OT, but I miss all of the old MGoRecruiting memes. Evaluating prospects along the lines of 'Sad Josh' or 'Nefarious Eduardo' would be nice. Also, the OMG SHIRTLESS scale of rating the excitement surrounding a recruit was a good thing while it lasted.
Wasn't there a rumor about a recruit from CA??
Maybe its only Shaq Thompson............. /s
Dee Hart? I heard was having problems with his leg over at Alabama. Maybe it's him.
Ondre Pipkins was tweeting about how Michigan is recruiting Danny again... and he doesn't seem to happy about it. Not sure how to post tweets but anyone who follows him can do it.
Looks like Ondre misunderstood a sam Webb tweet saying he HADN'T heard anything about Danny O
It's Gunner Kiel (QB, LSU), John Theus (OT, Georgia), Ifeadi Odenigbo (DE, Northwestern), or Cayleb Jones (WR, Texas).
This person wants to keep it a secret so I'll let you speculate which one of those 4 it is...
Ron Thompson. When we lost Brown we had a need at TE. He is a four star. There has been nothing said about him. He is local and could come to Ann Arbor pretty quickly and quietly
Very interesting thought. I like.
From the Chat:
Jason (Southfield, MI) Is Ron Thompson no longer an option at TE?
Tom VanHaaren (12:35 PM) He committed to Syracuse
So I would think not.
...he just pointed out that he's already committed, which is also true of the person in question.
I'm not saying it really is Thompson but that chat response is exactly what I would expect if it was. Or maybe if it wasn't, but then it might have included a "no".
I viewed it as a very dismissive response. Only Tom knows what he meant...
...is a 3 star,SYR
Im going out on a limb to say its the ND decommited DB who wants to run track . He Brinks he can beat shoelace in a race so he's oming to Ann arbor.
I think his name is Darby remember rumors start here
Doc (TC, MI) Does the Ronald Darby decommit play into Michigan favor at all?
Tom VanHaaren (12:11 PM) I need to talk to him first, but I said this on our message board, I would imagine he already knows the schools he wants to visit. Something like this usually doesn't just pop up out of nowhere with no thought. I would bet that he has the schools he wants to consider already in his mind. Michigan might try to make a play, but he needs to be interested in them first.
I think it's Dodson
WE GOT DODGSON HERE!
+1 for well timed Dennis Nedry quote
6'6" 310 lbs
He is from Pennsylvania, but committed to Wisconsin because of their recent success getting offensive linemen to the NFL. Now that their entire offensive coaching staff is gone, he is looking around along with Kyle Dodson. Scout and Rivals have downgraded both Dodson and Denman to "soft verbals". He and Dodson might visit Ann Arbor together.
I see Mr. VH is back at his old ways of teasing mgoboard and keeping us busy. This is ideal for the off-season
TATE FORCIER!! HE HAS BEEN FOUND!!
that is all
This thread is hilarious. Welcome to the offseason.
Rutgers OT. The internet already knows it.
I think that someone should try to compile a list from this thread of canidates who have not been eliminated just so that we have a point of reference when the information becomes public. I realize that I am too lazy to do this myself and am ok with that self-realization.
He is a 4 * OL on ESPN, a current commit to Pitt, which has had a coaching change, and a kid who had some interest in UM in the summer.
Colonel Mustard in the den with the rope.
I have inside info (no I dont) So this is in no way a wild speculation like the 174 posts above
