Danny Hope Shenanigans

Submitted by Blue McMaize on

Does anyone have a link for Danny Hope's shenanigans after the game? I'm lucky enough not to have BTN today but would like to see that.

I also remember during the game, after they scored, he did a little let me hear you now taunt to the fans by putting his hand up to his ear. I lost any respect i had for him, and iowa, and cant wait till we pound them next year..

What an inexplicably dumb thing. So your guy got suspended for punching someone at Northern Illinois, and it is RR's fault? I must be missing something here, but Hope could not be this mentally deficient.

Hope is pissed that RR brought the incident up to the B10. I suppose he believes that it would have gone unnoticed had RR not brought it up.

I don't think anyone was thrilled when RR threw another team under the bus to bolster his case with Mouton. However, Hope is essentially mad at RR for ratting him out. His OL was guilty of a dirty hit, plain and simple.

But without question, this incident reveals Hope's character, or lack thereof. I can't imagine any other head coach in the B10 doing something that immature - not even Dantonio.

I can understand by Hope would be mad if it was a ticky-tack play (like with Illinois last week), but the hit on Northern Illinois was pretty blatant. I cannot imagine that Hope expected that to go unnoticed, especially since it was all over the blogs and even on ESPN's recap of the game.

Coaches have no business doing what Hope did. What's really funny, though, is that if he keeps his job, he will have to play UM again every year. I don't really think he is in the position to be providing locker room material for what will be one of the Big Three again, possibly as early as next year.

Hope should have done the "shucks, golly, gee, glad to be here, it's an honor to beat a team like UM in such a fine stadium" routine. The more I think about this, though, the more I am starting to think that the last two years have been good for the team. Why? Killer instinct.

UM has really lacked a "killer instinct" for a long time now, dating back to the early years of Carr's tenure. They have had a hard time keeping the hammer down for sixty minutes a game, and have let a lot of mediocre teams hang around for too long.

Nothing, though, pisses a team off like losing except being taunted by someone who just beat you. And nothing helps develop a killer instinct better than being pissed off. No matter how pissed off the fans, including us, are, I think it's quite safe to say that the team and coaching staff are far more pissed than we are.

So, I am pretty sure that UM will have no problems motivating themselves for a long time: at least four years. I'm guessing the offense goes into high gear next year and the defense in 2011. By that time, we should be looking at a team that has its personnel in place and has a major chip on its shoulder, coached by someone who is still one of the best in the game.

I wanted it to happen earlier, but WTF. It will happen, though, and I am still not worried.

And this is really setting up nice for a very painful upset for OSU. They could beat a Stanzi-less Iowa next week and go into the Big House with a Big Swagger, playing for an outright Big Ten Championship. Meanwhile, UM should lose at Wisky, and would be playing to extend their season. It would be like UM is playing an elimination game and OSU isn't. The defense may suck and Tate may still be hurting, but you've got to love the intangibles.

I think I will even be cheering for OSU against Iowa next week. I still hate them, but I think it would be better for UM's chances if it looked like they had absolutely no chance. If it plays out like that, a UM win would be one of the biggest upsets in the series. Better yet, it would be a chance for every MSM writer to pull out every "cornered Wolverine" cliche that has ever been written.

I don't usually like cliches, but I would definitely make an exception if it worked out that way.

even though the game is on the road I think their offense is one we'll be better suited to stop.
It would be much sweeter to knock off OSU thus ruining their Big 10 title hopes and becoming bowl eligible at the same time. That might even make the pain of what has happened since week 4 go away.

One of the more ridiculous, more classless things I've ever heard a coach do. Had nothing to do with the game, nothing to do with anything, really. Hope is an enormous POS for pulling that crap.

He won. He could have just been happy with that. Hope should remember that although he won today, he is the leader of a 4-6 undisciplined team and just gave the snake-oil salesman ample reason to run the score up next year and the year after and the year after that, etc.

Jebus, Purdue really doesn't like us much do they? Next year Roundtree should go with Rod to the postgame handshake and tell Hope that he doesn't regret a thing.
