Dan Samuelson, Nebraska OL Commit, to decide between Nebraska and Michigan on 14th

Per Allen Trieu and the Twitterz. I personally would prefer Cameron Hunt who is visiting this weekend, but not a bad position to be in with a potential backup plan for a 6th o-lineman.

It's website and pod-hosting setup around that time. The only way I have been able to get them to work is through the website on my computer. I have also retried the WTKA App but it still doesn't for #%€£}.

If anyone has a working solution for mobile devices to share I would be grateful.

They've at least been telling some of the recruits for a while now "5 or 6", depending on the situation. I remember hearing this over the summer, and assuming the "situation" depended on Lewan staying or leaving. The search for the 6th OL ramped up after the season, when Lewan may have likely decided to go. But also, Chris Fox tore his ACL, so perhaps that is also the situation.

Cameron Hunt seems like he has a 99% chance of committing this weekend.  I hope he does.

With taking 6 OL, I wonder if we will redshirt all of them (we could never start all 6 as RS Seniors, obviously!!) or if one will crack the two-deep.  I am guessing the coaches would prefer RS in case of attrition, but if someone sticks out at center or guard - I think they will play  (a lot).

Bosch is enrolling early and is a top 100 recruit. He should not be redshirted and should go immediately into the 2-deep.

If you look at Bosch as a replacement for Caleb Stacey (not WRT position, just as a OL), then it makes sense the coaches are looking for another couple of linemen (to replace Stacey as number 5 in the 2012 class, and then to replace Lewan, and to cover for Fox's ACL tear).

Sorry if this is a little off topic but look what happened to Caleb Stacey...HOLY CRAP!  He's not at Cincinnati anymore, he's at Mount Saint Joseph, which is a Division 3 school...Wow.

Here it says:

"Committed OL Caleb Stacey will not be playing for UC next year as many already reported elsewhere. Apparently, his heart wasn't into football. Sounds like the Oak Hills product won't be playing anywhere. Tough break for Jones and co., they were extremely high on him, as many were."

I want to agree with you, but Kalis was our most "prized" recruit of that class and Hoke didn't want to burn his redshirt.

Look at what we'll have next year for RS Freshmen and above:

T: Schofield, Braden, Mags, Gunderson (backup T at best IMO)

G: Kalis, Bryant, Joey B, Bars

C: Miller

That's 9 guys.  Do we fill the last spot with a walk-on instead of burning a redshirt?  Probably, unless one of the freshman is good enough to start at C or G.

although I think I mostly agree with what you are trying to say. Making the two-deep doesn't mean burning a redshirt. We don't rotate OL. Kalis was on the two-deep this season. The only way I see any redshirts getting burned on the OL is if one the frosh are good enough to start or there are some serious injuries.

I found it fascinating to see Stanford "burn" Andrus Peat's redshirt as an extra tackle in their jumbo combinations.

First, Stanford has a top tier OL and an O requiring strength/power.

Second, Peat is sometimes listed as 3rd string tackle with 2 Sophs and 2 RF listed ahead.

Third, Peat is a a 5 star.

So, he plays a few downs a game to lose a full season by a 5 star and they still have to deal with 5 very good tackles within 1 year of eligibility.

Maybe Hoke takes these type of actions in 2 years when we have 15+ scholarship lineman . . .

Here's how it would go down: the ball would be snapped to no one and roll harmlessly to a stop 20 yards behind the line of scrimmage. Kyle Kalis would block two defensive linemen, one with each arm, freeing up Erik Magnuson to pick up the ball and rumble 90 yards to the endzone, untouched. Because he is an offensive lineman, however, it would take him ten minutes to get there.

For what it's worth, Sam Webb on today's recruiting roundup stated his opinion that Michigan would finish out with three more—Derrick Green, Reon Dawson, and one of the offensive linemen who are still in the mix. His take can be heard around the 8:25 mark of this podcast.

In my world, I'm envisioning that the coaches have realized that anywhere from 2-4 OL guys from the 2012-13 classes are so f'ing good, that they are 1st round NFL picks in 2014 & 2015.  That's what I am telling myself as the reason for 6 or even now 7(!) OL in this recruiting extravaganza that is the 2013 UM football class. #keepemcoming

Personally, I'd like Michigan to get Cameron Hunt, let Samuelson and Skipper go elsewhere, and then take several guys in 2014.

As for taking 7 offensive linemen, I don't see a big problem.  If you take that many, a couple are bound to transfer, drop out, get injured, etc. within two years.  Down the road you might lose another one or two, and you might have someone who stays on the team but never develops.  A class of 7 offensive linemen means probably 3 or 4 will stay for their full career.

I like the idea of taking 7 OL this class, especially since they seem to be the best players we can get this late in the process. I don't think have a choice. If Treadwell wanted to be here, he would have committed by now. McQuay and his dad are going to DJ high school dances in the LA area. Hopefully we can pick up LaRue, but if not so be it. I don't think OL will be our strong point next season, so it has to be addressed now and it is. In a few years we will have a 2 deep of 4/5* talent for the first time since....a long time. In 2 years we will be rebuilt, competing for BIG titles, and cherry picking "Elite" skill position players.
