Damon Webb Commits to OSU
MAKE IT STOP! *returns to fetal position*
Long way to go.
the worst day ever.
You may want to adjust your priorities.
"Do not adjust your TV set. We have just entered the into The Twilight Zone". Please wake me up!!
You've had a pretty easy life then, huh?
Than when my friend died in my arms, but yes it's a bad day
ahh just beat me to it!
Well this day got worse in a hurry
this sucks
That's an odd twitter handle.
He sounds like someone with a recurring role on Downton Abbey.
Bad day just getting worse
I don't get mad at recruiting but FUCK. Cass is to us as Glennville is to OSU.
I will be that much sweeter when we flip him.
Wish I had that much faith but Urban Meyer's track record is > Brady Hokes track record.
This is a shocker.
Ok...Michigan needs to stop dicking around and beat this assholes in every sport and not just win. We need to seriously start destroying that school and if Hoke doesn't win this year I'm going to just give up sports.
Not sure if serious
I'm serious about starting to beat Ohio. We need to put together a winning streak of some sorts against them a win here and there doesn't make me feel any better. I will probably live longer if I give up on sports.
Drink some hot chocolate or something
Take it easy champ dot gif
id have to agree on the fact that we need to start beating them.. at least every other year.. if they start another winning streak against us then we might as well start looking for a new coach in a few years..
Hopefully we win next year, but im not counting on it
Lighten up, Francis.
And he would have left for the NFL by now.
Can you give us any hints on what Lance Armstrong is going to say on your show tomorrow?
I has an angar!
will miss you.
Well damn...pipeline bust wide open. Where the hell did this come from???
Burst wide open? It's one player.
Yea but thats one of the top 3 prospects instate at a pipeline school. He will be a sure fire 4 star across the board. Its easy to say its just one, but thats how something serious gets started. Urb is a great recruiter and we dont need him getting the top players in the state from our pipeline school. Its still plent of time to recruit him, but this isnt something minor to sweep under the rug imo.
Webb has been seriously looking at OSU and LSU the entire time.
I knew about LSU, but I haven't heard much about him and tOSU...what makes you say that? Just wondering.
Recruiting buzz for the last several months.
He wore an OSU skull cap to a summer camp event last year. He's always been fond of the bucks
Isn't he the one who's family are big Michigan fans though?
They are, but let's be honest...Ohio State has a better football program right now.
**currently
They've had a better program since they fired Cooper.
The next few years are going to be intense between these two, in recruiting and on the field.
Ethics? Facilities? Average high school rating of players on the roster? $ revenues? Quality of coaching staff? At best, your use of the term "better" is highly subjective.
Wins. What else is there?
It's not subjective at all. The point of football teams is to win games, and they've won more. End of story.
I question your understanding of the term 'subjective.' We only reach objectivity through brutal abstraction, and relevant (i.e, recent) wins is the only abstraction worth looking at. Your definition is very subjective in my opinion, which is itself, of course, subjective.
Oh seriously Magnus? I usually defend your crazy posts, but your negativity went too far this time. How is their program better than ours? Because they had a soft schedule this year and we didn't? They aren't recruiting better than us. So what is it?
Don't say because they went 12-0. If we miss ND and Bama (like they did) and had them and Neb at home, we may have been 12-0 too.
I think your homerism is clouding your judgment. Aside from 2011, they've been better for awhile.
If wins is your only criteria, then yes a program that is SEC dirty is a better program than ours.
If our OC doesn't put his tail between his legs, we win in Columbus this year. We were the better team in the first half, and the score bore that out. Then there's two in a row on our side, and it's a lot more difficult to say that OSU is unequivocally in better shape.
And, as WolvInLA points out, they aren't beating us in recruiting the past couple of years. And while the Urban/Herman tandem will likely put forth a more coherent offensive philosophy than Borges, I'd take Mattison and co. over their defensive staff.
I don't think there's a gap any more. We'll see who's right in the next couple of years.
Of a Michigan fan as anyone, their program is better than ours right now because they have kicked our ass 7/8 years or whatever, end of story. I couldn't give two shits on facilities, good facilities don't mean shot, wins and losses do and we have lost more than them the last 7-8 years. I believe this rivalry is going to start getting more intense again with us trading wins with them.
Those are a lot of "what ifs". This post is making you look like a blind homer. OSU has been better since they fired Cooper and hired Tressel. I don't care who you play, 12-0 is hard to accomplish.
How did Tressel "acquire" his players again?
We may have went 12-0, but most likely wouldn't have. They had a soft schedule, but IMO the coaching staff prepared and adjusted adequately enough to have an undefeated season. Urban stated his revelation after beating us last year (a revelation that was fueled by the subpar victory, if you ask me) that he thought Ohio could measure up to any team in the nation; that they were playing as well or well enough to beat ANYONE.
This was and is a stretch from the truth, but when it comes down to The Game and the rivalry, Ohio seems to have carried a more tenacious understanding of it as of late (save 2011).
Also, the recruiting is, unfortunately, very debatable up to this point. Urban is creating some talented classes, especially within the "skill" positons and generally on defense.
Stats are huge, and OSU has went 25-4 in football/basketball combined since 04'. Sporadic, yes. But this is unacceptable.
Has "gone".... Please never use the word " went" again.
"Have" gone.
Get real. Even in our best years, going undefeated was damn near impossible. We only made it to 11-0 twice in the modern era (97 and 06) and only once did we finish 12-0. Ohio has made it to 11-0 three times in the last 11 seasons alone (02, 06, 12). The fact that they did it this year with a relatively weak team is analogous to what we did in Hoke's first year (11-2), only better. We are getting ourselves back to a more level playing field with Ohio but we are not there yet. Bill Parcells once said, "You are what your record says." Over the past decade, our record against Ohio says we suck, and we have clearly been the inferior team of the two. If you disagree, name me any other situation in sports you've heard of where one team won 2 out of 10 games against its opponent and still had any legitimate ground or basis for claiming to be the better team.
I don't care about Webb. I worry far more about Urban Meyer having the pull to close on recruits the caliber of Derrick Green and Lequan Treadwell in states where Michigan can't get a sniff of the upper echelon talent. If he does a lot of that over the long haul, we are screwed.
Im so fuckin pissed
apparent.
To those literate in the English language.
I generally get irrationally upset about sports, but I'm not going to get upset about one player going to Ohio State.
You? Irrationally upset about sports? Seriously though, you're reaction to this is proof of how far you've come in less than two weeks, Mr. Yost. The Ultimate Meltdown has become The Ultimate Voice of Reason. Training completed you have. Jedi knight you are.
Just go back.
You're a juvenile asshole.
cation.
It is one thing for a Cass guy to go somewhere else if Michigan offers...it is another thing when a Cass kid goes to OSU and commits over a year from his signing day.
He will be flipped.
"Cites academics as a reason"
To the dong. My eyes vomited when I read that.
Lack thereof?
Does that mean he wants an easy road to a degree?
What he meant was, ""Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL classes are POINTLESS."
If this is true, then I am glad he will not be a Michigan Wolverine.
Citing academics as a reason means he's either mistaken or just not that bright. Since he's only a high school junior, I'm assuming he's mistaken.
You can't fault a kid for wanting to go to a school where he might be able to pass.
"a Ohio State Buckeye"
I think he meant their bad academics, since you can't get into Michigan with grammar like that.
OSU is a hot ticket right now, but I don't believe this one is even close to over.
Obviously this is not good news, but for a kid that was originally going to wait another year or so to make his decision, I would rather this happen now than 12 months from now for 2 reasons:
1. As the saying goes, a verbal commitment just tells you who the competition is especially with more than a year until signing day. More than enough time to try to flip him. And would be much sweeter if we get him that way.
2. If this commitment is solid, at least the coaches know now instead of having to scramble to fill the spot a couple weeks before Signing Day.
Talk about a double dong punch
A Cass Tech kid going to OSU/?? you sure this isn't a high school kid a little worked up over the basketball game?
Vernon Gholston?
So glad I have no clue who this kid is.
I'm legitimately shocked by this. Dong punch indeed. Long way to go though.
All the Cass Tech players we have got dont ever do shit..Boo Boo, Big Will, Teric,Delonte...I felt Webb was the best of them and watch him be..Michigan needs to go back to the drawing board with the way we handle the Rivalry..go on and flamebait me it dont matter. And Webb citing Academics makes me sick
I agree FIRE EVERYONE!! even if michigan has the highest recruiting class ever this year
I dont mean fire people..i am talking build a fucking fire inside these people to not only beat OSU but physically punish them on the field and court..we dont play them the way they play us..OSU got Eli Apple,Conley,Cam all 6'1 and 6'2 CBs...what does Michigan get ??? a bunch of 5'9 CBs and a "under the radar" taller CB..I am to the point i dont give a shit if we lose every game WE HAVE TO BEAT OHIO !
Thomas Gordon disagrees.
Thank you Mags for kinda sorta...yeah ok il give you a point..He has been solid..And for Sheridan almost 5'11 or almost 5'10 is not 6'1 or 6'2 size like OSUs group of incoming CBs..its obvious Hoke wants the big CBs but we are having a hell of a time landing them..we really need Stribling to excell because we are undersized at the position..If you blitz the way Mattison does you need good size CBs who can cover 1 on 1..Webb has nice size for his age and would have been a great land..the fact he was in our backyard is what hurts
Okay you cant get EXACTLY what you want each and every class. Ohio State needs numbers in the o-line and only have 2 committed (correct me if im wrong) and yet we have 6 o-line commits, with 5 of them being blue chip. Jourdan Lewis and Ross Douglas aren't a bunch of scrubs and we don't know about terry richardson yet. You do not get every recruit in your backyard (Kalis, McCray, Thomas, Smith). Does it suck to miss out on this kid? Yes. But this does not mean we need to have a meltdown just because our corners do not have richard sherman size.
Just assuming that we will flip him...you guys sound like the buckeye fans who thought they could flip dymonte. Kid is a buckeye now, so move on from it.
He is a fuckeye. But he worked his ass off so Congrads to him.
Just don't. Ever.
About 12 beers deep a depressing day. I've shamed michigan men
You've shamed yourself.
Really, a fuckeye? Are you 12? That's worse than hearing all of their fans saying "Michigan? More like scUM!! GET IT? HAHAHAHA" Just no, man.
I think the annoying part is that he had so many other terms he could have chosen from tO$U, Suckeyes etc.
Now, I'd comment further but I'm off to WalMart.
Have not done squat while at Michigan. Gordon who was a 3 star who played QB and he has been the only secondary guy to contribute significantly.
True..but I think Jourdan Lewis is going to change that.
Is supposed to be a difference maker.
So we're already giving up on Richardson?
Nickel corner maybe
I don't always understand the purport of a post like this.
What's next, Greg Mattison retirement rumors? Great fucking day.
They just went 12-0 with a coach who has won 2 of them. When you talk to kids about winning National Championships as opposed to B1G Championships that probably makes a significant difference.
They're going to have to beat the sec which osu has not done since the 80s.
What do OSU teams from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s have to do with this team? The last time they faced an SEC team in a bowl game they won on the field. Those are useless statistics.
You are, of course, referencing the Arkansas game...a decisive 31 - 26 win.
Something about that game though...
Pretty sure I watched them lose the 2012 gator bowl to Florida? But I guess you are rewriting history now?
Last years OSU team was an abberation which i don't really count. Everyone beat them last year. We beat them. That should tell you enough.
It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, and it's hard not to suspect he was wide-eyed at the game today and made a hasty decision.
History has shown that we take theirs and they take ours. The future will be no different. Get a grip people.
CB from Cass and he commits to ohio? WTF, come on Damon, change your mind within the year please
I don't mean this a slight against Webb, but who is he? Judging from the comments here, I'm guessing he's a 2014 kid from Cass Tech. I'm not familiar with many of the 2014 kids.
One of the top cb. Very good player good steal from our backyard
Didn't he have Michigan and LSU on the top of his list last update? um ok...
Wow tough crowd today, not sure why that's flamebait. It's a serious question. I thought all indications were that he wanted to take his time and take an official to LSU and Michigan of course. Or did he say recently that OSU was the leader? Seems pretty random to me.
Wow that's unexpected and a pretty big loss for us, just makes the need for Parrker Westphal that much more imperative.
And/or Troy Vincent, Jalen Tabor.
maybe this is something that is a concern for him?
God I hate the entire state of Ohio. I wish they would just seize to exist.
In English class, his grades did not exceed C's.
Cease
Derp. Cease*. Damn you Mgoblog for not allowing me to edit my post, you're making me look stupid!
Lot of players out there.
Fuck. Probably the worst motherfucking week of my life. Michigan and just life in general. This year has been shit so far.
Says "hi!"
Yes, I guess that and the win over nebraska earlier in the week and women's win today to stay unbeaten in B1G play helps.
You've been a member ot this site for awhile, so I don't understand why you say a lot of the things that you do. I'm not sure what all has happened to you this week or year in general, but that's pretty sad that Michigan football losing out on a Junior in high school ruins your day.
It's not just that, at all. But it adds to it.
It's just been a big combo of things this week and it just has snowballed.
Perhaps I should just step away from the site for awhile but I just can't do it.
good luck to him, I want guys that want to go to U-M and have it in their blood. If Webb doesn't, then oh well
that username "sheridanforMVP" you made your account at the wrong time sir.
That's the joke.
Is Webb in the 2014 Class?
Yes.
Thanks. not sure why people thought my simple question was flamebait.
Yea I wish people on this blog would grow up sometimes. I got flamed twice for no reason and it looks like a lot of people are getting the same treatment. I understand if something is said out of line, but people on here flame you just because you have an opinion thats different than what they were thinking or feel about the situation. Its pathetic.
Or, as M-Wolverine suggested, listen to TL, our LT.
Now they get to wait an entire year and hope he doesn't change his mind. We can each take turns starting rumors.
How long does it take to look something like that up? Don't be lazy. You're on a computer afterall.
He said he's done with the recruiting process and no more visits. Welp...
Uh this is legit from his 247 article my friend says so don't get your hopes up
You think he will have that opinion when he sees Michigan win by 21 points in November this year?
I was just thinking about Michigan's top five class not worrying too much.
I would like to meet these internet tough guys, though...
That happened a while ago. Someone is downvoting every post, people can't look stuff up even though all of the answers are at their fingertips, and ignorant posts are becoming the norm. Watered down version of what was once great.
I can haz a Jabrill Peppers?
When I am a calm voice of reason on this blog, something has gone very wrong.
Not worried. There's a long time til NEXT signing day
Oh man. Urban got a player from the state of Michigan!! When is Brady going to start getting some players from Ohio???? Oh yea....never mind! Relax people.
We take a lot of high quality kids from Ohio. The way I see it, this is sort of like our payback for Kyle Kalis. But don't kid yourself, he's at a very pro Michigan school, and there's a LONG way until signing day.
Conley is a better comparison.
Conley didn't have an LSU offer before his Jr year (or ever). But his final ranking will proabably be about the same as Webb's. So in that sense Kalis was the bigger coup.
He was comparing this to Kalis flipping to Michigan. Conley flipped to OSU. That is obviously a better comparison so I don't know what the Hell you're talking about.
But will there they still be "competing for national championships" when Urbs loses 3-4 next year?
Have you seen OSU's 2013 schedule? It's actually easier than their 2012 schedule. It would take a FAIL of Biblical proportions for OSU to finish any worse than 10-2 in the regular season next year.
OSU 2013 Schedule:
(Opponents 2012 record in parenthesis)
- Buffalo (4-8)
- San Diego State (9-4)
- @ California (3-9)
- Florida A&M (4-7 FCS)
- Wisconsin (8-6)
- @ Northwestern (10-3)
- Iowa (4-8)
- Penn State (8-4)
- @ Purdue (6-7)
- @ Illinois (2-10)
- Indiana (4-8)
- @ Michigan (8-5)
That is a whole lot of suck they are playing in 2013. Be prepared to see OSU in the Top 5 all season next year.
In all fairness we, along with Northwestern, had Vandy on the schedule but they dropped both B1G schools causing us to add SDSU to the schedule with less than a year notice. I know its Vandy but it could have been another school ranked between 20-25 to open the season. Moreover, its not our fault Cal has fell from its status as a good team. When they added them to the schedule they were really good and had a QB named Aaron Rogers. However, I'll admit this schedule is easy based on last year teams performances but I think teams like Iowa and Illinois won't be as bad as we saw last year. Especially Iowa.
I have said this before...first, why get excited about a kid a year away from NSD? Please.
Second, don't be surprised if this kid wants to take visits, especially with the likes of LSU and Alabama come calling.
Third, if he does end up at OSU, so what? It does suck not to nail down a good recruit from a pipeline, but it is far from catastrophic.
Common sense will not be allowed during the denial stage.
This is probably the reason that David Dawson tweeted "Pissed" the other day cause he heard about this and thought now i will have to kick my former teammates ass when he gets to Ohio
No I made Webb a recruit on NCAA 13 and Michigan got him. He's currently starting as a sophmore so I wouldn't worry guys.
Sadly, I always end up committing to Florida when I create myself in that game.
I just hope he likes getting crushed by our manball
I don't know why but this made me laugh. Must've been the way I read it.
ewww...
Yeah our huge manball. We lost the other one climbing over a fence.
If he wants to try to tackle Derrick Green when he continuously breaks through to the buckeyes secondary, let him.
negbanging asshole out there?
I decided to pos anything that has been deemed flaimbate so I think that should fix it.
OSU is an easy sell right now because of hype. They went undefeated, and they have a coach and fanbase who talk like they are going to win the title every year. When they start losing games, and they will, things won't be quite so easy. Your program can only survive on talk for so long.
Someone flush Ohio please.
I wish Ohio was playing Alabama to open the season next year.
Don't be silly, they already have a tough and THRILLING matchup with buffalo!
The similarities between this and the Dymonte Thomas situation are staggering. You all really think he's going to flip after all the bile he's going to receive at Cass Tech over the next year?
Do you think Conley took some serious heat from OSU fans before he flipped?
Maybe its because this is for next years class but this doesn't sting as much as I thought it would
Oh well....win some/lose some. Beat them on the field and the rest will take care of itself.
Long way to go until signing day for the 2014 class. This kid is in a Michigan pipeline, so anything can happen.
I could handle the loss, but this is truly a dong punch. Out of nowhere! Was there any indication that he was considering an early commitment, let alone to OSU?
He had previously expressed interest in OSU. The early committment is a surprise.
Not sure if true, but a few rumors on 247 and ESPN last week that Meyer might have also offered a position to one of the Cass Tech coaches so sounds like he is putting the full court press on that school if so.
For sure. He's supposed to be there Monday too. Apparently Coombs is well liked by many kids as well. I'm glad this comes in such a deep year.
We all knew another ten year war was coming, should we be surprised that Urban's going to try to shut down a pipeline?
My initial reactions was like is this a joke? But I'm not upset. He's a 2014 recruit. There's plenty of time for him to choose the good side, but if not, oh well. It's not like he's the only CB. I'd rather have Parrker Westphal.
this is a 2014 kid. you think he won't want to take visits to Bama and LSU when they come calling? there's a long way to go until 2014 NSD. regardless, osu will get its guys no matter what happens. just like we'll get ours. we've had our pick of the litter from ohio for the last 2 years. dymonte thomas, kyle kalis, mike mccray just to name a few. i'm not worried about it.
It would have been nice to get him but I'm more worried about getting McDowell and Marshall. Also flipping Harris would be very nice too.
Time to start winning or this stuff will get worse!
More dong punches in case you missed yours from earlier.
Edit: I'm frustrated, like everyone else. Let's start beating Ohio State at sports, mkay?
Big loss at a position of need from a school with a history of sending their D1 kids to Michigan.
At the same time, it's for freaking 2014. Other CBs will commit to us.
alot of kids in detroit doesn't like michigan. they are osu fans so hoke really will have to recruit the up and comings kids hard to try and flip them from ohio state and the sec schools. We have to remember michigan was not any good from 2007- 2010. Thats when florida and ohio state were the hot things.
Kids in Detroit love Michigan so it's not that trust me. My son and his friends rock Michigan gear faithfully and I can barely ride thru the city without seeing Michigan gear everywhere on our young people. I rarely see Ohio shit or even state.
What? Have you been to Detroit? That's such a load of crap.
Seems like Hosey and one of Tech's DEs really want an ohio offer from a recent Jermain Crowell tweet
Fuck man. This up-coming season is so important for recruiting. Let's face it as much as I fucking hate urban myer the guy is a proven commodity. A good year next year will help... But that is a big IF. Have to beat OLIO next year. Absolutely fucking must win given its at home.
Poet huh...
Well, at least you're moderately novel.
It was not expected. Oh yea, it hurt too.
I'm sure the basketball game is contributing to this, but no need to be so butthurt. Urban is a great recruiter, and maybe some kids just want to make their own legacy at other school. Yes, it still stings that he would choose them over us, but we will get ours and they will get theirs. Simple as that.
Now, if there was a recruit to have a complete meltdown about, I would think it would be Green. A top player at a position of need? That's a must get.
had pretty cool bowl uniforms this year, actually.
Hey.
he will swap give it time
You have got to be fucking kidding me!
Probably just wants to make his own way. It was just a matter of time before one of the Cass kids pulled a Brady Hoke on the home town team. Hopefully we will take it on the chin better than the Ohio fans do when we pull talent out of their area. I love the focus on the Midwest but we need some other area to recruit, too.
Not the proudest day for the MGoBlog community, I see.
Kid wants to go to OSU. Good for him. There will be other recruits.
Man, there are some comments and reactions on the board that make you cringe.
Why does it suddenly change once they're at the school? Ohio State players are bashed around here consistently.
A brief look around indicates the majority of the criticism isn't exactly from the "old school" of posters.
These new posters need to get the hell off my lawn.
Let's not forget our 2014 recuit is a stud from Ohio!!
One has to wonder if Webb will be able to play as anything more than a nickel corner given that Cam Burrows and Eli Apple are coming in next year. I wish him well, but not when we meet in the game.
Multiple OSU analysts think Burrows will end up playing safety, as he's likely to put on some weight and his hips aren't quite as fluid as coaches might want for cb.
Just have to turn on the press to other recruits once we close out 2013!
Bray Hoke was a Michigan fan growing up because all of his friends were Buckeye fans. Safe to say that Webb is a Buckeye fan because his teammates are Michigan fans or Michigan committs. Just wanting to stand out, it's not the end of the world.
Is it OK to say I hope Dawson drills him in dodgeball during gym class?
/s
He must really like basket weaving!
Level here tonight is equal to an average night at mlive. Big fricken deal, a 2104 recruit declared to Ohio, who gives a shit, I'm pretty sure we'll sign a few kids. It's amazing that kids between the ages of 17-21 hold so much control over a typical day for seemingly grown adults.
I think it has more to do with the basketball game than losing Webb
When the fuck did Ohio pass Michigan in the 2013 recruiting rankings? Oh fuck off too
I know you people aren't exactly what we call "smart", but CLASS GRADES MEAN NOTHING.
Go ask texas how having #1 classes have worked out for them.
It's a great day. The freshmen got a taste of rivalry intensity in the Big Ten, spotted Ohio a bunch of points, and still almost won. The pressure of being undefeated is off, and JB gets a lot of coachable moments on tape. This will make the team better, and it's much better that this happens now than in the NCAA Tournament.
As for Webb: BFD. Ohio gets another player: not exactly "man bites dog" here. So what if he goes to Cass Tech. He's only one player.
We need to fully acknowledge the threat in Columbus.
Urban is focused on 1 thing - winning championships. OSU is win-at-all-cost. Their last 2 recruiting classes are ranked above ours (per Rivals). They are recruiting nationally (opposed to our regional focus). They are willing to run a SEC-type program. [They hired a SEC coach for starters.]
Brandon, Hoke and company must raise the bar.
- This might sound negative, but I believe UM can strive for greatness and outpace them.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Scout say we have the #1 class in the country? Hoke is putting together a monster class that is recognized by every major recruiting site. We lost out on one kid, and even that is not set in stone. There's a huge threat in Columbus and I think everyone recognizes that, but don't for a second think that they Meyer doesn't recognize the threat in Ann Arbor.
coaches use the Scout to trumpet our rise. The classes are basically equal.
Urban on ESPN at NCG, OSU getting the pre-2013 accolades as a top team, Rivals ranking, etc. He won't go quietly.
This will be a long, tough dog fight.
Colorado, North Carolina, Massachusetts etc.
I guess they need to go intergalactic like Sparty?
M has an entire year to flip Webb. He'll be like most young adults in his position and eventually open things up again. The kid is 17 fergodsakes.
Maybe I'm in the minority here but I think the concerns of some of the MGoBoarders are legitimate. Obviously there are better ways to say it, but I agree with a lot of the vitriol. It hurts to lose a highly touted Cass kid to Ohio. No way around that. Meyer is an incredible recruiter and has proven he can get it done. I hate to say it but I really think it's going to be hard to consistently beat those guys.
You should get off Urb's dick. He's winning recruiting battles because of his name and a 12-0 season. They barely beat us (their NCG) last season in the shoe with all of their amazing recruits. I mean come on they squeaked by Indiana and Purdue and everyone is making them seem like Bama.
It's mindless not to recognize Meyer's accomplishments. He's been there for one year. You mean to tell me that you're not concerned about his on the field success when he's recruiting like this given more time there? I don't buy it. I hate the guy too, but he can recruit and coach with the best of them.
Brady Hoke is doing a much better job recruiting than Urb. He doesn't have the name, the rings, or the school that has been on top the last 5-10 years yet he has put two top 5 recruiting classes together and has gone into Ohio and snagged top talent like Ferns, Kalis, McCray, Thomas and others. Of course Ohio is going to get a ton of top kids they have a high profile coach and are a high profile program.
Don't forget who is in Hand's top five without even receiving a visit.
I don't think anything that I said discounts what Hoke and our coaches have accomplished. I love the classes we are bringing in. We can agree to hoping we kick Ohio's ass. I'm just saying it's going to be difficult. That's all.
I don't think beating Ohio was ever easy, hence the rivalry. I think the key will be wearing them down with big tailbacks and a big offensive line.
So is this why David Dawson posted his "pissed" tweet last night?
Considering this staff has shown little acumen when it comes to attracting top flight corners. Elite players want to play for a coach with a big time resume and reputation for getting players to the league. Any elite corner out there saw clearly that our defensive backs are not fundamentally sound. Coaching.
So Parrker Westphal isn't elite?
Brought in the 2 top corners from Cass Tech in the past 2 recruiting classes in Richardson and Lewis who also had roughly the same offer sheet as Webb. The same staff also has had a true freshman in Countess and a true sophomore in Taylor that saw less action in games than the corner that was repeatedly targeted far more frequently in one JT Floyd who was recruited by Dick Rod.
i wouldnt hate against greene if he decided to go somewhere else too....michigan doesnt have the mojo right now.....others are simply better currently
I'd be cool if Red Green committed.
Of tackling our RB's (hopefully D Green) who will be running through well groomed paths paved by Kalis et al.
For huge plays, have to wonder about the coaching young Damon would receive. Honestly, not being able to run the ball in that game ( aside from Denard), absolutely killed us in that game and limited play-calling (you're welcome Al Borges)
You're insane?
You're back Jon Ross but your basketball team won and you picked up a recruit. I didn't see you trolling when Michael Ferns turned Urbs down (I imagine his offer was not commitable).
Shocking to see you out trolling today.
I don't think you understand what a troll is.
They inherited a program that had been to 1 bowl game in 3 years and turned in 2 top ten classes in the 2 full recruiting cycles that they have had. This year's class may be top 5. They have pulled more talent out of the state of Ohio in two years than Dick Rod or Lloyd did in the past 4 or 5 years. They have one of Ohio's top 3 recruits in Ferns. They have dominated the state of Michigan after the previous staff failed miserably in it's own state.
Are slow and I'd tell you to read it again but it's just a waste of time
Negged for 'DickRod'
Who are the top priorities other than parker. We didnt make the top ten.for jalen
Yikes
Congratulations on your continuous use of a pathetic schedule. I mean having a schedule next season with only 4 teams that had a winning record this season is an improvement for your team. Really going out there and getting that tough competition with Florida A&M, Buffalo, and Cal (3-9). It's not like Michigan played the 2 teams that played in the National Championship for their non conference schedule or anything. How many teams did Ohio play that finished in the top 25?
Do not feed the troll.
JonRoss is a troll.
a troll with 2006 points? What did he say that was so awful?
Clarkie dislikes me. He always has. I don't get worked up about it.
That's a lie. I either discuss OSU/Michigan related topics or make fun of Michigan fans who say something egregious (aka what everyone on this blog does to Michigan fans who post stuff that's dumb). I never call out anyone who isn't already negged or called out for a dumbass comment. I've been here for like 4 years.
1) OSU has scheduled in recent years USC, UCLA, Texas, Washington State, Washington, and Miami to play in the non-con and every single team listed above was ranked when they played OSU (and usually ranked top 10). So "continuous use of a pathetic schedule" is wrong. Schedules are made years in advance (you'll notice OSU plays Oklahoma, Tennessee and Va. Tech in coming years also) so when Cal was scheduled they were coming off decent, Aaron Rodgers led, years.
2) Alabama was literally the first time Michigan played a tough non-con game since, what, Oregon? In 2007? You play ND every year. They've had three good seasons since 2000.
3) You lost to us? You can't say UM lost to Nos. 1, 2, and 3 which makes them good losses then immediately call into question the validity of one of those three teams for having a joke schedule. You were on that schedule and you lost to them. Are you then a joke by default?
If ohio had Michigan's schedule this past year, they would've got shit-canned by alabama and beat by notre dame in south bend. No doubt.
Michigan would've destroyed that scrub schedule ohio played. And they wouldn't have struggled with mighty UCF either.
I have my doubts that Notre Dame would have beaten Ohio State. Notre Dame isn't very good, and they got a bunch of lucky breaks throughout the year. They struggled with an 8-5 Michigan team, a mediocre Pitt team, a 7-6 USC team, etc. There's a very real possibility that the Buckeyes would have beaten the Irish.
Uhh both teams had their weaknesses. UM struggled with Air Force, a team made up of 5'7'' white boys with a gimmick offense.
Sure, we would lose to Bama. We might lost to ND, though I don't think so. Point is, we beat Nebraska, and we beat UM. Transitively, there's really no argument.
What's wrong with being white?
And your Rose Bowl winning 2009 team struggled with navy who runs the same offense. In their season opener. They had an entire fall camp to prep for the triple option. Michigan had one week and it was after a loss to the defending and eventual MNC.
Triple option is not something Michigan exactly sees very much.
That Navy team won 10 games...
why Tressel was fired.
Why are you here?
Seriously.
Don't worry. He isn't anymore.
Urb almost got Dawson from us but didn't. We are still Michigan and still raid Ohio, but today has sucked...unless you have a macro view.
Wish someone else could have gave the hoops squad their necessary medicine. But flip the home court/field for fb or bb and Mich probably/will beat Ohio in '13 and our dreams as fans are still very much within reach this year and in the coming years. So turn your frowns upside down Mich fans and embrace our positive paradigm.
However IF Michigan lands another elite corner in 2014 and picks up Mcdowell this will be an isolated incident. What cannot happen is Michigan being dragged into recruiting dogfights over local kids. We have to be able to grab the elite local talent and focus our logistics on the elite out of state talent. If OHIO makes us work overtime in our backyard that will be a major win for them and hurt us badly in recruiting overall. We still have to realize that we pull a lot of studs out of OHIO and it works both ways. Can't throw stones in a glass house. Nonetheless it stings to lose a cass tech stud. Urban is a sly S.O.B. but he is Damn good at this recruiting thing. Brady just has to turn up the effort a bit more and continue to win his battles. He has done a great job overall and I think Michigan is a major sleeper in the B1G next year. Stay positive folks. Webb won't break the 2014 class by himself!
Tossing out my allegiances and given comparably talented rosters; I will be absolutely shocked if Hoke has a .500 winning pct against Meyer, albeit the games will be very close on an annual basis. I do like Hoke, however, there is nothing in Meyer's past, present, or future to indicate to me that he does not have the advantage.
If we lose at home to OSU next year and go into Columbus 0-2 vs. Meyer in 2014, the series could get ugly yet again, However, given his history of burnout, I don't believe Meyer will be at OSU more than 5-6 years.
OSU could beat us a home and we could beat them in the championship game. I think we will be playing them twice in 2013. I hope we beat them twice!
But it reeeeally hurts smh ppl said Webb was the best player at Cass this year even with Dawson, Lewis, and Hill.
It makes me sad that kids fall for the cheap, phony, shallow sales pitch that is Urban Meyer. I know it's easy to get caught up in that as a kid. The LeBron James New York Yankees Nike appeal. Anyone over 25 and not a Buckeye fan can see that Meyer is a sleaze bag. I am perfectly happy to have Meyer's hollow glitz be the trademark of Ohio State and Hoke's authenticity and family define Michigan. There wasn't always this aesthetic divide, but its existence now makes it much easier to be a Michigan fan.
Hoke will move from the number 5 class in 2013 to the number 1 class in 2014! May be we won't go 12-0 but if we can win the B1G then make it back to the Rose Bowl, I think this will help recruiting, especially the top notch skill players!
I think we were 3rd on Webb's list. However, if we beat Ohio then win the B1G, Webb may change his mind. Or there could be another national CB recruit as good or even better we could land!
I'm secretly hoping that Webb tomorrow tweets that he got account hacked and it's all a lie. Howver, that probably won't happen, and Webb very well does sign with those guys. To Damon Webb, good luck in your other 11............ oh wait nvm good luck never
He was contacted and confirmed that he committed to OSU. Sounds like it would even be unlikely to flip him.
Without doing a scientific study, I would venture a guess that most kids who have changed their commitments have at one point said "I'm solid" or "I'm not visiting anywhere else" or "I'm done." Gareon Conley said that Michigan was his dream offer, and look what happened.
I'm not saying Webb will reconsider, but high school kids' statements should be taken with a huge grain of salt.
I have a feeling Meyer might be in the running for and possibly sign Lawrence Marhshall as well.
Yes, people are being ridiculous right now, as you should understand. Similar to your blogs when Kalis flipped. It's the nature of the rivalry. However, owned for the next decade? I think not. That's pretty hysterical on your part. I think both sides need to face the FACT that both teams will be powers within the conferance and start winning bowl games again. Meyer was blessed with a talent filled roster where as Hoke was not. Both teams will earn top 6 recruiting classes each year and the game will be a tossup every time they meet.
As for Michigan fans, Hoke has a half filled rosted with guys he wants. He is still making up for position and depth loss due to Rich Rods type of player. My take on the rivalry, Hoke needs to reel in some freak athletes, especially at the skilled positions. Ohio State has had a more talented roster for the last decade, hence a great record against us.
urban meyer did not single handedly turn a team with the talent of a 6-7 team into a 12-0 team. just stop.
OSU team was actually rated 35th in FEI and had a tougher schedule than this year's OSU team while using a true frosh at QB. It's really not even that shocking that they managed 12-0 this season, schedule considered.
One might say Urban took a 12-0 team and almost coached them to a 10-2 season. Did you watch the games against Indiana and Purdue. The defense was pathetic and Ohio State was lucky to get out of both of those games against inferior competition with a win.
Apparently you didn't watch the Indiana game. OSU was two dropped TD bombs by Devin Smith and a hilariously bad call on an onside kick recovery from winning by 3+ scores. No one watching that game thought OSU wasn't in total control.

If you can't see something great being put together in Ann Arbor, you're as hysterical as a Michigan fan on a bad day. Yes, a great OL haul in 2012 and 2013, but great defensive players and offensive guys too. You do know that several Michigan commits had an OSU offer, right?
It's going to be a back and forth decade, so get used to it. That goes for Michigan fans as well.
You're embarrassing yourself.
Not saying Michigan was better than OSU this year because they aren't, but for the record on the schedule thing. FEI rates OSU's schedule for this year as 65th and Michigan's as 3rd.
Secondly, you used the argument about Hoke being a .500 coach. However, this completely takes context away. Hoke coached Ball State for 6 years. In the 6 years prior to his arrival, Ball State was 22-45 (.328). In his six years, Ball State went 34-39 (.466). Under .500 yes, but considering where they came from that's a massive improvement. As for SDSU, they were possibly even worse off. The five years before Hoke's arrival saw an 18-41 stretch (.305). In two short years, Hoke did manage to get to 13-12. That's almost matching a 5 year stretch in 2 years.
And no, Michigan is not about to get owned for a decade again. In the two seasons Hoke has been here, Michigan beat Ohio in a close home game and lost a close road game. Getting beat for most of the prior decade is just one of those things that happens sometimes. It just happened to Ohio the decade prior. Try to have some sort of reasoning skills, memory, or reasonable arguments that use things such as logic and maybe you will actually be able to stay here and talk. But if you would like to troll, your account won't last anyways, so whatever. Do what you want.
Get a life, please.
I sense a one way ticket to Bolivia incoming.
