Hoke recruiting was very good, he wasn't a lot of things, but he was a great recruiter. I think we all are expecting far to much if we think Jimmy can swoop in and change our trajectory with recruiting in just 4-5 weeks. That's no reasonable to expect. I also think we need to ratchet down our expectations for a few years, or at least till we start winning the games that matter. We were not even in a bowl last year!! What high talent kid would choose us?? Maybe the one who has been born and raised on maize and blue, and that's just maybe. Nobody else. It's not that we are a bad choice for a kids future, we are a great choice. But we are not a Best of Best choice. Not for any serious footballers. Bama, OSU, Oregon, FSU these are the schools the ballers want to go to, and are going to. That only changes with wins, period. If we want to get the best kids, we gotta win, that simple.

Please stop with this fallacy. Hokes recruits included Garrett a consensus 4 star who was committed to A&M. Poole was a 4 star. Clark had Sparty, Cal and NC offers. Taylor was a four star on at least one of the sites. Heitzman, Bellamy and Carter all had multiple Power 5 offers.

This problem really only gets fixed one way: Winning (without cheating, please).

I'm really starting to wonder how schools with integrity can compete with schools that provide proxies to take tests for football players (ND) and schools that know their football players "didn't come here to play school" ("oiho")

Then again, if Harbaugh can put together a national title contender at a place like Stanford, I like to believe he can do it at Michigan. Please.

I'm going to watch a movie now. This hasn't been a pleasant few days for Michigan football fans living in Seattle.

yep winning cures all.

and the straighter programs cannot consistently compete with schools like bama, usc, osu, etc...the programs that do whatever it takes to win usually do so.

and the fans of those programs are mostly on board, its all gravy as long as they win.  they have limited subsets of fans with the moral high ground type attitudes which comprise much of this board and much of um fanbase in general - just stating facts.

harbaugh will have michigan competing with the big boys soon enough bc thats what he does but the culture, tradition, attitude, etc only allows for so much consistency - in the running for league titles every year with skilled enough teams to win it all once every 10-12 years is the best i ever see michigan doing in modern era (and thats precisely what they did under carr).

any more than that is approaching usc, bama, osu, etc type territory where youre expecting undefeated seasons every season with legit shots at the crown every 3-5 years.  michigan has not been that type team since they were 1 of 5 teams on national tv every weekend and most of the roster was all white.

theres nothing wrong with big ten title game appearances and great bowl games and that legit shot once a decade or so when it may potentially all come together.  anything more (ie 3 natl title games in 5 years) would require totally altering the culture, not just program but the michigan mindset

These young men have been thinking about this decision for 1-2 years. No matter Harbaugh's sell, it's tough to change your whole plan in just a few short weeks. To everyone joining us, welcome, but I expect the 2016 class to be the first one where Harbaugh's staff makes a big impact on the trail

Does every school in the country offer recruits booze/girls/money and Harbaugh doesn't believe in that? There's got to be a reason that we're missing on every recruit when we have a Super Bowl coach.

Whole thing should be deleted. If I was an outsider looking in, I would be having the time of my life. It is one 3* kid who was never really high on us to begin with. We were always number 3 on his list and never number 1. Let it go. You guys sould like a bunch of chihuahuas.

I hope we're done with coaching transitions for a while. I think a lot of us had unrealistic expectations of what Harbaugh and staff could get done in about a months time (2 weeks if you factor in the recruiting dead period). Considering most of our coaching staff, save Durkin/Mattison, moved from the NFL to college pretty quickly, I'm surprised we've made the in-roads we had. Our time will come but it's probably a year or two before we're Harbaugh's well oiled machine on the field and on the recruiting trail.

Overall message: Step back from the ledge, kids.

odds on williamson?

recruiting sites giving um decent oods to land the williamson kid from georgia?  in my opinion hes most talented athlete listed as target on this board (at least of those whose film i clicked) and that includes marshall from poly.

williamson could line up at CB, S or WR as well as returner and i think hed instantly be one of 5 best athletes on um team (precisely the type players they need more of).  kid offers a nice combo of versatility with elite potential, and hed be a real coup considering how highly im guessing the staff views his game.

sounds like arnette to osu was expected, the rich get richer - theyve outrecruited um for decades with few exceptions and it wont change under meyer (regardless of harbaugh) but on-field results on game day trump all - and harbaughs pretty good at winning

Meh, it's hard to turn down the national champions, especially with the former turmoil of the Michigan program.  Once Michigan starts beating OSU again in a couple years, he'll see the error of his ways.  Good luck kid.

IBD! Are we still doing that or did that guy who gets irritated by it end all that shit for all of us? I just want to make sure I'm up to date on the latest. That whole Arizona Air Raid thing really has me thrown for a loop, I'd never even heard of such a thing

I hear it's nice this time of year.

*And boom, he's on his way. Good work! Hopefully he's traveling in the luggage compartment.

I guess a lot of folks around here forgot we plucked a 4* QB from Texas.

But that doesn't jive with the meme du jour: Harbaugh can't recruit.

On with selective memory.
