2014 was already huge. But in some ways it's too late. For Harris, Campbell, Hand, and untold other prospects, our embarrassing 2013 season was the decider. That is to say, 2013 was huge, too, and we shit the bed big time.

Players shouldn't be able to commit until August 1 going into their senior year. Let coaches continue to offer players early but kids are committing before doing their due diligence to save spots in the class.

Agree 100%. Why people think that early committing is so great puzzles me, because with kids that young we're going to see more and more of these early commits/decommits for all schools, not just Michigan.

It's not going to make the recruiting process any easier for coaching staffs in the long run, because the decommits can really fuck up your plans for a given recruiting class. Now Michigan is in the position of scrambling to get in touch with Plan B kids, many of whom have already committed elsewhere.

It's times like these where I miss the days of being gleefully ignorant of recruiting, before the days of Scout, Rivals, 24/7, Twitter, etc.

did mean something after all.

/s, but only partially.

The rumors about his disenchantment surfaced before Borges was let go, so I don't think his decommit is solely due to the change in the coaching staff. I think that was just something that enabled him to justify what he already wanted to do anyhow.

Why he's come to the conclusion that a Nussmeier offense wouldn't be great for him is a mystery, but what goes on in the heads of 16 year olds is a mystery anyhow.

Really skeptical that Michigan is still "in the mix." I just hope he ends up down south rather than at OSU. Seeing him in scarlet and gray would suck.

But I thought....

No, but seriously, a lot of people saw this (like the Campbell situation) coming from a mile away. We win games, big time recruits come. We're not winning games right now. As Chantel Jennings said on twitter, "cause & effect", simple...

Even if we dont get him back, production @ the RB position can be manufactured as long as everything else is in place. If Green comes along, it wont be as killer of a loss as it feels now. By the time he's ready to leave, hopefully we'll have another stud on deck.

That's what happens when your teams underachieve. Big time recruits want to come and play for winners. Hoke needs to prove he can do that consistently.

Oh well, thank god for John Beilein and Michigan Basketball.

No need to be overly concerned. There will be others who will be highly thought of.

Now if it was a highly recruited QB then that would be a different story.

Honestly can't blame a recruit for thinking twice about committing to a school that just strung together several historically bad performances, then finished with an embarrassingly inept whimper in a bowl game. Losing Borges probably hurt, but also should help as it will be difficult to do anything but improve next season and reassure these kids about the direction of the program and their future in it.
