and... i like them? I think I like them.
Dallas Crawford To Miami (YTM)
in my nightmares
This day is starting of great!!! I 'hoke' things get better real soon! DC anyone?
Not necessarily posted yet, but has been mentioned in the Frost posts. Even though this was already pretty much known, it still sucks.
Ahh, thanks. I was going to read those but I saw two threads with a bunch of comments in each and I wanted to make sure I chose the coolest one, but I didn't know which it would be so I just avoided them altogether!
It's all good. The bad news just keeps piling on though.
Its the duck and coverrr
He's listed as "soft" verbal to Miami....he's visiting USC, but with our new DC I'm wondering if he'll change his mind at all
I'm hoping we are able to get on track here real soon. I'm not sure how much more I can deal with...we should be locking up recruits we already had and gaining more commits at this point. Feels like we are still going in the wrong direction.
I have been out of the loop this past week. Any good news or big names coming our direction?
Sucks to lose Crawford, he was one of my favorite commits. He is going to be a beast for the Canes. Hopefully we can keep Countess and reel in McClure and/or Raven (both would be great).
Raymond Taylor? He's a 4* CB that grew up a fan of Michigan, he's visiting this weekend...
How come there is no recent word on him.
And losing Crawford sucks, but if you don't want to be here then have fun elsewhere. I'm not gonna lose sleep over kids like this.
with offers going out to two more corners that Blake may have a change of mind. I hope not, but do we really need five CBs in a class of 15 (please) give ot take a couple?
Sorry, but I have lost all hope for this recruiting class now.
Why? It was expected that Crawford would eventually leave after the RR firing. I am not getting too down unless this weekend is terrible for the recruits (which I doubt).
Frost is all but gone. Crawford is gone. Devin Lucien is gone. Jake Fisher is 50/50 now. It's not looking good...
What is everyone's feelings about Fisher and the chances he re-commits? If he goes elsewhere, is it Sparty or somewhere else?
It's pretty much between Michigan and MSU. I don't know what to think anymore...I thought Lucien was a sure thing but that was "shot down". So, I have no clue....
Good thing we showed Lucien the door because we have enough 4* WR's and those scholarships are looking a little tight given all the guys we have lined up. I am sure Hokester will have a veritable flood of guys in 2 weeks.
agreed! this is one that makes little sense to me...
They apparently wanted him as a DB...but it seems to me it would be better to take a solid WR than lose him completely. Especially since we don't have a shortness of scholarships...
We aren't exactly short at receiver (13 on scholarship and none graduating this year). And when you sarcastically say we have enough 4* WR's, take a look at what we have next year:
Stonum - 4*, Hemingway - 4/3*, Odoms - 4/3*, Roundtree - 4/3*, Stokes - 4*, T. Robinson - 4*, Gallon - 4/3*, Miller - 4/3*, J. Robinson - 4/3*
That's 9 WR's that were a 4* by at least 1 of Rivals/Scout. I'm sure Hoke is worried about a lot of other positions before he worries WR. Since we just took 5 WR's last year, there are much more important spots on the roster to fill this year.
It's not next year that I am worried about. Look at the first 4 names on the list and when they graduate. In any event, my point wasn't that we should offer a WR at the expense of getting a quality DB. It was that if we don't fill the class and have extra scholarships (that might not even be useable next year given the B10 cap of 25), it will have been incredibly foolish to not offer a quality guy like Lucien
Kellen Jones is sold to Michigan again.
Where did you read about this? This is definitely a positive!
news, truly. That should get its own post and link, to keep people off the ledge.
I loved Crawford b/c he looked like a playmaker, but if we pull McClure we can salvage at least this position in this class
seems strange to me that the higher rated Cali guy doesn't have an offer from Southern Cal while Crawford does.
And Thomas Rawls is visiting on January 28th.
Really? Where did you see this?
That kid has serious stud potential.
then I'll take the trade. Both are higher graded and bigger. I think Hoke is looking to add some size and I'm not terribly upset about that. Now, I'm hoping for size AND speed but you know...
I agree. McClure is now ranked the #4 corner to Scout. Raven is ranked around Crawford. Though I still believe Crawford is underrated.
I'll take McClure in place of Crawford! Have you seen Stefan speak? He's very well spoken and seems like an educated young man. Plus he's at the same high school as Leon Hall, he turned out okay for the Wolverines...
I like Raven the most out of those three, but the one thing you can't argue about with Crawford - even if someone questions his size or speed, his production speaks for itself. He's had about 10 picks in each of the last two seasons and even had some great numbers as a quarterback.
This could just be a matter of getting used to new names. We've been hearing "Dallas Crawford" for so long that we think he must be the best player in the world (or a less exaggerated version of that statement). We'll see if this is just a matter of getting over the old names and getting excited about new names. Raven and McClure (on Rivals) are much higher rated than Crawford. I know nothing about whose game is really better, but I'm ok with losing one talented player if we gain another (or two other) talented player(s).
Michigan fans hear that Denard has decided to quit football altogether and seek the priesthood, Brady Hoke is the anti-Christ, David Brandon forces all players to get the number 666 tattooed on the inside of their arms and the Big House is bulldozed to make room for a really really big chemistry lab.
Knock on wood...
What are you going to tell me next, we rehired Gerg?! Hopefully some Hokus Pokus can start flowing!
Hokus Pokus... *giggles*
That's just wonderful. My level of optimism has nowhere to go but up.
Thank you, DB, for this. If we were going to hire Hoke (which I think was a good move), why did we wait until January 12, again, as opposed to, you know, December 1?
We counldn't have pulled the trigger then because all the coaches DB wanted to talk to were all under contract and all prepping for bowl games. No University s going to give BH permission to speak with their coach then. It's a timing thing.
This year's recruiting class will not be impressive. We all knew this was coming. I look at it this way-- I'd rather Hoke & Co. lose them by being up front and honest rather than keeping 'em on board with lies and deceptive talk. Integrity rocks, man.
Let's hope he really is the dynamite recruiter everyone says he is and kills it with a full year of recruiting. We then need to hope all the kids from next year are super studs and college ready by there sophomore years when this class will be juniors.
A small, underwhelming 2011 incoming class will show its effects in the 2014 season. These guys will be redshirt juniors/seniors and traditionally a team's biggest contributors.
...Hoke has a kicker in line to replace Goudis, Chris Bryant seems like he might be back on board, we have people lined up to replace the lost Crawford commit (McClure, Raven, Taylor). And Flowers isn't out of the question.
Considering Alabama rebuilt his HS football field or some such, I doubted that Hart was going to Michigan, RR or no RR, especially with Mark Ingram declaring. So I don't think it'll be significantly worse than it would have been anyways except for losing out on Frost (and I'm curious to see what the Mattison hire does for that...).
coming in for an official this weekend? I know McClure is scheduled to come in. But I think it would be great to get those 2 guys in together -- so they can envision the dominant secondary we will have 2 years from now.
DB's are the most unpredictable success stories in college football.
Already is posted but that butt shot makes us all feel better about it .. Thanks
Why are they all of a sudden pulling all these players? I wonder if they will be the next NCAA recruiting scandel?
They pulled a 3* corner and a 2* kicker, hardly grounds for an NCAA recruiting scandal
I generally try to avoid recruiting all together before the actual signing day because it changes so much, but this does look pretty nuts all together. Kind of scary for down the road.
But, my positive spin is that Hoke seems to have done well (so far at least) in the most important recruiting area, which is keeping everyone who is already at UM here and getting them all on board. I know not getting these freshman sucks, but remember how disasterous / poisonous the situation was when Rodriguez lost some key guys to the NFL and transfer and didn't get buy in from a lot of the guys who stayed around. All in all, I think avoiding the crap that happened to Rodriguez is more important to the long term future of the team (and Hoke's job) than getting these guys, as painful as it is.
