Dallas Crawford Decommit.

http://mgorecruit.blogspot.com/ is reporting that ESPN says Dallas wil visit and decide between Miami, USC and UNC officially before making his final decision.

Dissapointing but i would not mind replacing him with a DT or a position of need. Quite a big DB class.

Recruiting takes months if not years including multiple visits and many hours with the coach and (as important) the position coaches. If you hire someone with a long pedigree at big time programs or a lot of current hype, you overcome having a much shorter timeframe to get someone on board. If you hire someone like hoke who still doesn't have any position coaches you can't realistically expect top prospects being courted by high profile programs to get comfortable after 4 or 5 hours. Hoke doesn't have the same snake oil credentials rr did (biggest plus is he is a "Michigan man" which doesnt mean much to kids in Florida or Texas) so expecting miracles in the next 2 weeks probably isn't fair or realistic

Oftentimes it does. But not always. Look what Dooley did at Tennessee last year. That guy was even more obscure than Hoke. You're dealing with impressionable teenagers. They can be impulsive and emotional. They get swayed for the most random-seeming reasons. Plus, some players that like Michigan but didn't like RR are out there. Imagine how many of them wrote M off due to RR's struggles and job-security. Michigan isn't Troy State. Plenty of kids will listen to Hoke. Some will jump.

The timing of Crawford's announcement (this morning) isn't a good thing given that Hoke said he would be calling each recruit last night. I'm sure Dallas was one of his first calls. How did that conversation go?

Hoke: Dallas, I love Michigan. Love it to death. This is greatest university in the world and we are building a TEAM worthy of this institution. So tell me, do you want to be part of that team?

Crawford: Is your name Rich Rodriguez?

Hoke: No

Crawford: Then I'm going to the U.

Dallas told me 2 days before Hoke was hired that UM was still his #1 choice but was looking around to have a backup plan.  If he truly has dropped us, obviously he doesn't feel comfortable with Hoke.   I Hoke makes a strong push for Dallas, I think he'll end up in AA.
