I think that's a big part of why they're looking at Devin Bush Sr. Just like Partridge brought a huge influence in recruiting, so would Bush Sr. They both have backgrounds coaching positions where our hottest coaching commodities are right now. Partridge could replace Durkin at LB and Bush Sr. could replace Jackson in the secondary.

I don't know... From everything I've heard, the opening for Bush is rumored to be on the recruiting front. I don't know if it's the best idea to have 2 of your defensive coaches basically be high school coaches. Sure, Partridge coached a bit in the lower levels of college, and Bush played in the NFL, but you're talking about replacing your DC and a respected NFL defensive backs coach with a New Jersey high school coach and a Florida high school coach. Those are both potentially significant downgrades.

Now I'm not saying Partridge and/or Bush would fail, but they're inexperienced and haven't proven themselves at the college level. If anything goes wrong, you can see people whispering in players'/recruits' ears, "Hey, that's what you get when you have high school coaches coaching in college."

Since it's sounding more and more likely, who would you like to replace Jackson?

Thoughts with Partridge are that Harbaugh thought he'd keep Durkin for 2 years and that'd help Partridge get accumulated and learn the environment early. He accelerated that when Durkin left early. Same with Bush. Harbaugh might've thought he could get Bush a year under the coaches with Jackson before taking over.

I am most concerned, though, that the face of the staff is changing too quickly from "We've been in the NFL and can get you there" to a more standard college coaching staff.  Then again, it didn't seem to hurt this recruiting class all that much.

I think that is/was sort of inevitable. I don't know how sustainable it is to take a bunch of quality NFL assistants and give them college jobs year after year. Harbaugh was able to do that with his first haul because some of those guys were "his boys" who were out of jobs at the time. As time goes on, a guy like Greg Jackson is inevitably going to move on to bigger and better things. Drevno probably will, too.

There's something to be said for NFL-experienced guys like Devin Bush, Mike Zordich, etc., who might not have coached at that level but can still speak from that playing experience.

Retire...or coach with Harbaugh?

HMMMMMMMMM

EDIT: Of course, not 2 seconds after I post this, Brian reminds us all that Woodson works for ESPN now. Hopefully they don't film from on top of the ESPN desk and give us NostrilCam next.

In a stunning turn of events, Charles Woodson agreed to become the new secondary coach at the University of Michigan.  Asked why the sudden change of heart after recently accepting a job at ESPN, Woodson scoffed and said, "It was that god damn floor seat camera angle."

Nick Saban was an NFL and college DB coach before he landed at Michigan State.  I would pay a lot of money to hear a phone call in which Harbaugh invites Saban to interview for Michigan's open DB coach position.
