to say something like that. Apparently Mattison was one of the coaches on the visit, and I can't imagine him doing that. If they did it was a colossal mistake, but I'm betting it was a very unfortunate misunderstanding.

This staff is too seasoned to say something like that I would think. Also recruits are usually PC in these instances and he's just going off. I wouldn't pass someone to encourage him to speak this way to hurt the image of Michigan and Harbaugh since he's going after committed kids at NEB and already flipped one

So apparently Michigan flat out told him that he wouldn't have been able to get in without football?  A, it doesn't seem like Mattison would be that blunt.  B, how many kids on the team couldn't get into the school without football?  Let's be real, it's not like a state school where a 3.0 GPA is good enough.  And C, he goes on a Nebraska radio station to blast Michigan and have a vandetta out?  Sounds VERY fishy to me.

All the commentators said JH wouldn't want to mess with recruiting. This is the closest I've ever followed Recruiting and I'm already irritated with several of these kids. I realize it's a big decision, but to fly across the country and waste a lot of time for people like coaches who have a lt of other kids to see...all just to day "no thanks." Man, that wouId get under my skin after a while. I feel sorry for JH coming into this 2015 mess.

If you go up to 100 women and ask them to have sex with you, 99 of them will slap you in the face, but the 1 who says yes will make the 99 slaps in the face worth the effort.

Knowing how most D1 schools recruiting processes sounds like they maybe wants him to take an online course just to be sure his GPA was up to snuff....father prob heard it wrong or some BS....oh well on to 2016 kids

wouldn't be able to get into Michigan if it weren't for football. Nothing shocking here guys. That's the reality of the situation. There's a bigger issue here and it's not about the football players being stupid but the flipped priorities of what is important and its no longer academics.

Wonder if this was a situation where the parents asked Mattison if their son would be able to get into Michigan if he wasn't a football player and he just answered honestly. I have a hard time believing he would just randomly tell the kid he had no chance at Michigan without football.

completely agree.  I have an easier time digesting this if it's a first yr assistant who has never/barely recruited before.  We are talking about a guy who has done this for 20-30+ yrs and has been a national recruiter of the yr.  The guy has seen every situation, I'm sure he's not going to attack a kid.
