D. Warren to Safety w/ J-E-T-S

Submitted by GunnersApe on

Jim Leonhard is mentoring him at the position. I hope it works out for him (and also makes UM look good too).

That D. Warren would be playing Safety for the Jets, but this is still a good read.

It's nice to see that Warren is spending a lot of time listening to others, doing everything he can to learn and prove himself out there to get a roster spot.  I hope it all works out for him in the end (though I would have loved to see him in a 'phins uniform, as the article said was a possibility).

...says all you need to know about the difference in speed (i.e., brain speed) between the NFL and the NCAA. Everything I've ever seen is that it's an order of magnitude difference. Warren is going to need all the mentoring he can get from Leonhard to make the transition without the relative cushion of a draft slot salary/bonus.

i'm actually a little surprised.  he has a safety's speed, but a corner's instincts.  i think he could've made a decent corner.  of course, the jets are pretty stacked at corner.

I think they knew from the start he didn't have the speed for corner.  It will depend on how well and quickly he can learn to read the field from the safety position, and probably more importantly for making the roster, playing special teams.  If he can't play specials well he will have a slim chance of sticking.  He has a challenge and I'm rooting for him.  I live in the NY area so now have a reason to watch at least part of their preseason games.

Where are all the people who were dissing Warren for choosing the J-E-T-S because of their depth at cornerback?
