D-day Morning Open Thread

Could the rumors be true? Have we ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight? Will we have a head coach in the next 12 hours?

I used to think a bunch of you guys were crazy for caring so much about speculation surrounding our program. I guess once you're in the mental institution everyone around you seems normal.

I care way too much about this... and I guess that's a good thing now. Having said that, I can't wait for this to be over. Law School finals and a simutaneous coaching search is not good for you.

However comes in will get by unwavering support.

General Patton = Les Miles

Les Miles = ruse

real coach = Brady Hoke

I would not be pleased with this outcome, just as the Germans were not pleased with the outcome of D-Day. Let's hope these dominos planes aren't made out of fabric

No chance - he sounds serious.  I mean... that movie IS pretty old, and if he is like a 14-year old kid, that would make some sense.  Anything else?  Weak.  Very weak.

Also, why is the tagline to this site now "doom"?  The fanbase needs to be united after this hire, and I have a feeling that Brian will not do his part in uniting it....

Gruden says "No, heck no. I'll be back." when Tirico asked if he'll be entertaining coaching offers.  Brandon's stop in Dallas could have been to set a contract framework with Miles agent George Bass.  Bass is based in Dallas.  No smoke or fire from Patterson.  Looks like it's Les.  Just my gut.  Possible PC tomorrow with an appearance at the OSU game.  That would be pretty cool.  I wasn't hot on Miles..but I'll get behind him.  KEEP IT CLEAN LES!

"but I'll get behind him."

That is exactly what we all need to do, regardless of who our next coach is.  I understand we all have opinions of who we would like to be our next coach however, opinions are like Lessholes.  Everyone has them.  And U of M is about to have the king of all Lessholes.

Just kidding Less, I love ya.  Bottom line is, he wins, he recruits, and he wins!  May not always be pretty, but he gets the job done.

Support the troops and support our next coach.

so just got in from my midnight shift, I skimmed through some threads.  Let me get this straight.  Schad's tweet about the buyout is untrue?  Les and DB did meet last night.  Les and his family w/ George Bass ate @ Voodoo Bar.  Les also met with LSU officials.  So in 4 or 5 hours is there going to be an LSU or UM presser?

edit: damn i type slooooow when im tired. sorry guys.

Yes, sir. I understand I'm supposed to be on one of the first boats to hit the sands. I accept this responsibility to post snarky comments and emphasize things with ALL CAPS upon recieving the "go" message on Les Miles's hiring. Yes sir, I know I may be negbombed to death, it's all part of fighting for this nation.

The announcement might not happen today, but if Les has made a decision either way, I doubt it'll stay a secret by the end of the day. At some point its going to get out somehow.

Les having a late night snack of peanut butter and banana sandwiches with Elvis at the Stop 'n Rob over on the turnpike last night. There was a cigar-shaped spaceship parked outside and they both jumped in it and flew off somewhere. North, I think. By the way, have you seen my Skoal and John Deere hat anywhere?

The team meeting at 4 is likely to tell the team that a coach has been hired. You would almost certainly hear who it is after that if not get it from leaks way beforehand.

Maybe Brandon is just giving the team a summary of the events that have taken place so far.  Filling them in on who he's talked to, the conversations that have taken place, etc.  Then he's going to inform them that this is a process and that a decision can't be made in haste.  LOL.

I think you're right.  I think we're going to have some kind of news leaked shortly before or after 4pm, if not sooner.  I'm expecting to hear some news around 1pm CST.

Don't worry guys, I have this figured out (seriously):

As another poster brought up in this thread, DB has been all over the country talking to Harbaugh, Fitzgerald, Hoke, anyone in Dallas, and Miles.  He flew home after meeting with Miles because his search was over.  He'd done all of his interviews.  The team meeting was setup knowing that after DB was done with Les, he'd know who the coach was.

This doesn't mean it's Les.  It just means that he was the last one, and hasn't said "no thanks" like JH and PF.  Is he the most likely person?  Yes.  Is it likely that DB will be able to provide some insight to the players during the meeting at 4 PM?  Yes.  Is anything a done deal right now?  No.

I find it very hard to believe that Brandon hasn't talked to Hoke, and it would have been very easy for the two to have met at Brandon's home in Scottsdale, AZ (which is only about 370 miles from San Diego). It seems that many people (not including me) think so little of Hoke that no one's been bothering to track his whereabouts.

FWIW, both Chengelis and Wojo of the Detroit News late last night indicated they believe Hoke is still in the mix. From Chengelis's story posted about six hours ago:

But Miles is not thought to be the only candidate. Others close to San Diego State coach Brady Hoke, also a former Michigan assistant and thought to be a candidate, stressed Monday night they believe he is still thought to be in the mix. Hoke has made it clear that Michigan is his dream job.

She also claimed that Miles had not been offered the job yet:

A source with knowledge of the meeting [between Brandon and Miles] characterized it as "good" and productive but cautioned that no decision had been reached.

Some tweets from Wojo:

Of course Michigan has talked to Hoke. Of course Michigan HAD to talk to Miles. LSU is letting Miles explore this, and U-M is exploring too.

Remember, Brandon wants a coach. He also wants the closing of Michigan factions. Settling both won't be easy, but he's trying.

In #Michiganfootball search, I think pressure is being applied from all angles. That's why it's hard to see which way it turns, Hoke or Hat.

@rwslade66 A Michigan fan revolt over Hoke would be stupid. Just like expecting Miles to go 11-1 first year would be stupid.

So the theory would be that Brandon, in the deliberate way he operates, has now met with both Hoke and Miles and will decide between the two, while also attempting to mend a fractured fan base. People were so quick to anoint Miles the new coach after the meeting between Brandon and Miles was set that they forgot there could have been another purpose to that meeting.
