Cullen Christian to transfer to Pitt

Submitted by Crime Reporter on

No big surprise, but he says reason he came to Michigan was because of Tony Gibson and the coaching staff. Also, he said he did not like Ann Arbor.

"I didn't really like it up here," Christian said. "I didn't like the campus, and really, I've miserable since I've been up here.

"I think it was just about me and what I'm used to being around; there's a difference between living in Pittsburgh and Ann Arbor. A big difference. A lot of kids like it here, and some don't. It just wasn't for me.

"So once the coaches left, there wasn't much holding me here. I was like, 'Why am I here? I don't know these coaches and they didn't recruit me.'

Last year Gibson decided to play Avery and Talbott over him.  I know he was upset about being buried on the depth chart, but he is essentially following Gibson who also sat him on the bench.

From 2002-2006, we had 11 defensive backs who spent 43 years here (I'm using a maximum of 4 years, since they can only play 4) = 3.9 years

From 2007-2010, we had 21 defensive backs who spent 57 years here (and that's assuming all the DB's on the present roster stay for 4 years) = 2.7

Keep in mind this is VERY rough.  I did it in about 3 minutes, and I counted guys like Adrian Witty and Demar Dorsey against the total, because after all, they did sign Letters of Intent...

So...yeah.  It's not a fabrication to say that defensive backs used to stick around longer.

rated DB out of hs and was beaten out by another true Fr, and a guy who was QB in high school.......then the coaching staff was fired, and was behind another true Freshmen, and a walk-on

I probably wouldn't like Ann Arbor much either.

My guess is that he would have been more cozy with his relationship to the new coaches if he was running with the first team and not buried on the depth chart.   If a player is going to a school based on his relationship to one coach then he going for the wrong reason.  It was no big shock when he signed that the coaching staff was on the hot seat, especially a defense staff that oversaw the worst defenses in Michigan history.

All the hate for this kid is ridiculous - he made a decision on what he believes is best for him. Michigan isn't the best fit for everyone and that was obviously true for Cullen. I for one wish him the best and think this kind of criticisim of a 19 yr old kid for making a decision is hogwash (love that word!)

Good luck in the future Cullen and Go Blue
