I agree, I don't see Morris' status today as any different than it was yesterday.  He hasn't done anything that preculdes him from playing for us next fall.  We knew he was interested in the draft, and he still is.  We also know he's interested in playing college ball next fall, or he'd have an agent working him through all of this.  Just like yesterday, Morris is keeping his options open as he gathers more info.

Though I initially wrote what I did because I didn't think Tate would play much at Miami (like his brother at Stanford), however, upon further review, all Miami has at QB after next season is Stephen Morris (and, in the 2012 class, David Thompson) and in hindsight I could see Tate beating out both of them (since Jacory Harris graduates after next season).

Seems weird that a kid would prefer the worst defense in school history to one led by Mattison, but to each his own.  Bummer to lose a highly rated kid, but maybe more of a bummer that we've had multiple highly regarded secondary players crap out.  Somewhere in America, however, a high school junior is very happy.

I'd be willing to bet that "coaching change" is the reason he gave, but not the real reason.  When a player uses coaching change as his reason for transferring, almost everyone reads that and says something like, "yeah, that makes sense" since we did just have a coaching change.  However, for the reasons you suggested, I think that's not really the case.

I think it's one of two things - either "coaching change" means "the new coaches don't think I'm any good" which is not really the same,  Or it could jusr be "I think I'm better than the coaches do so I'll try my chances elsewhere."

As I watched him on the sideline during the Spring game, his body language told me he wanted to be anywhere else. He did not look happy to be standing there.

If he finds a new home where he can excel, I'd consider his transfer a win-win.

In the rumours section on ESPN college FB it says Rising Sophmore. He can't be rising that much if he can't even crack the two deep. I have a feeling some of the incoming freshmen would've past him on the depth chart. Nobody wants to sit their entire careers. Especially when you are one of the top guys recruited by your team.

Perhaps you were joking about the "rising sophomore" bit, but in this case "rising" means "nearly," basically meaning that when he next plays football he'll be a sophomore. It's a way of indicating a college athlete's year of eligibility the next time he or she competes when that year is different from the athlete's academic year. It has nothing to do with how well that athlete is performing.

...I think between the last class and the current incoming freshmen that we do have decent depth at Cornerback (Woolfolk, Floyd, Avery, Talbott, Browns, Countess, Hollowell, Trayloer) and Safety (Carvin, Furman, Carter for FS).  So at least this wasn't at a position of near term need in terms of numbers.  Though its never a good thing for a highly touted recruit to not work out (Christian had an offer from Ohio State, UCLA, Pittsburgh, and West Virginia, so he difinitely had options).
