-Gardner looks really good
-Fitz and Hayes were the only RBs who really showed anything
-The OL is still unclear. They flipped between doing well and doing not so well.
-The WRs all looked good too

Hayes really didn't impress me at all there - goes down pretty easy in that video, and there was one play where it looked like he had a big lane for a second, but he hesitated and got bupkus.  Smith looked decent on his one carry, but ... one carry, I guess.

Great play by Dymonte on that screen, too.

Oh, and I'm starting to get excited about Chesson.

It should be noted that tit seemed like their were two OL combinations. The first (presumably the "ones") was Lewan, Glasgow, MIller, Kalis, Schofield. and the second was Magnusson, Braden, Miller, Kalis and Gunderson.

1st team o-line seemed to hold its own against the 1st team defense.

2nd team defense, one the otherhand, seems a step ahead of 2nd team o-line. This actually hold pretty well with what Mattison has been saying about the D being two deep at almost every position (Joe Reynolds still owned the 2nd team secondary).

Flimsy Analysis time:  Fitz is my new hero.  It is unbelievable that he can come back from that horrible injury and be running so well and so physical like that.  He looks really good.  Great catch by Chesson. He is reminscent of Tai Streets with that number on.

The defense is swarming to the ball and wrapping up.  Cam Gordon looks very comfortable and is making plays.  Devin throws a beautiful deep pass... in this scrimmage video he looks like a young Randall Cunningham, but more accurate.

Joe Reynolds making a couple of TD catches... Dileo looks good finding a spot in the underneath zone...he could be huge there this year.

Welcome to college football Derek Green.  He looks like he needs to slim it down a bit and get those feet a bit quicker.  Fitz has far more burst... but this can be improved on.  The kid is a load.

Rawls looks like Rawls...and its good to see Hayes make some plays.  Deveon Smith looked very good cutting through for that final TD. He may be this year's sleeper...kid is going to be a very good RB.  I am comfortable with this RB group, if they all stay healthy its a deep and diverse group.

someone else can analyze the big uglys...im going to bed. Go Blue

Omg. You're right. The way he lets go of the ball. I see what you're talking about.

A team like notre dame (big, talented, physical front four on defense) could REALLY TEST OUR O-LINE early. I have faith our guys get it together...just don't know how fast. I guess my dream of us running over people may not happen right away (the dream is like how Wisconsin ran over us a few years back after halftime...remember..,they ran the ball 30 some times in a row and we could not stop them???? Yeah, like that but in my dream we were the offense inflicting the pain).

I'm impressed with our D. Just wait til our young talent gets developed. Guys like peppers. Bigger bodies on the back end of the D (think stribling). Our D could be CRAZY in a couple years.

SEE BALL.....HIT BALL.

GO BLUE!!!

Wow. Devin looked good, Fitz looked good, Chesson looked good, and the defense looked pretty fast. Only possible issue if this is highlights is that there were no runs longer than like 8 yards. I think we might be throwing a lot this year...

A few things that stood out to me:

 - Chesson looks like he can just reach wherever and pull passes in. Good routes and great range. Some great catches by Reynolds too - it looks like he might be one of thego-to people on longer routes perhaps.

- It would be difficult to tell Fitz had been injured if you didn't know. He was looking a bit like 2011 Fitz out there.

- The defense was showing that speed that both Mattison and Hoke kept discussing in various pressers. They definitely looked as stingy as ever and were not leaving much in the way of room for RBs.

- De'Veon Smith sighting: he looked able to slide between defenders well enough, as did Hayes on a couple of his runs.

I woke up looking for scrimmage highlights - do I have a problem?

Some “predictions” based on that less-than-20-play sample size :
  • Jack Miller AND Graham Glasgow will start
  • It was obvious that Ben Braden always would be a tackle and not a guard
  • More than one writer will use “The Great Fitzgerald” to refer to Toussaint
  • Before every home game, the PA announcer will say, “In today’s performance, the role of Vincent Smith will be played by Justice Hayes”
  • If Derrick Green does not lose 20 pounds by August 31, he will redshirt
  • If De'Veon Smith continues to play as well as he did, by August 31, he will be the first running back off the bench
  • Unfortunately, this season, fans will be deprived of using the phrase “I Love The Drake”
  • Willie Henry will see lots of playing time so that announcers will be able to use the phrase "Oh Henry!" every time he gets a tackle for loss
  • Frank Clark will have no sacks before November
  • Joe Reynolds will lead the team in both TD receptions and record sales
  • Jehu Chesson will lead the team in leaping catches
  • Opposing offenses will be picking on Blake Countess
  • Drew Dileo still can find an open seam with his eyes closed
  • Dymonte Thomas will lead the nation’s freshmen in tackles for loss
  • Jeremy Gallon has lost his job as Devin Gardner's favorite receiving target
  • Neither Shane Morris nor Brian Cleary will get any playing time
  • At his next press conference, in describing the scrimmage, each coach will say, "I liked some things I saw, but we still have lots of work to do to get ready for our opening game."
  • Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=butZyxI-PRs

As much as it would be nice to have the media's all-access privileges of the Rod-Gergian Era of Michigan Football combined with the on-field successes of Hoke-A-Mania, it appears that Fort Schembechler is as well guarded as ever. A few narrowly focused video clips and cautiously answered press conference questions aren't going to reveal very much about how any members of Michigan Football Team 134 are going to perform this season. . . . And that's why all of my "predctions" were intended to be facetious.  (Except for that one about Generalissimo Francisco Franco still beind dead. I think that's probably true.)

I love how not only this poster...but 1/2 the board is making predictions off of the SELECTED clips shown in this 3-4 min video. Also from the tightest angles imaginable. Do you think they're really going to show a random DG incompletion? Of course he looked good. Do you think they're going to show a bunch of big runs? Of course not. Just be happy we have 4 more minutes of "football" to watch, pray there are no injuries, and let's keep it moving.

Devin looks really really really good. The only play I saw Green in(was there more than one?) it appeared there wasnt great blocking. But OMG DEVIN!!!!!!!

Up at 4:30 and watching it. Twice. Scrimmages are funny. Pretty much every play can be taken as both a negative and a positive. Plus these are highlights. 14 days, man.

Small samples but Gardner looked great.  Put a few long passes right on the money where only his receiver could get to it.  Fitz also impressed..looked to have good burst and speed.

-Either the defensive tackles are really good (incuding Henry and Ash...) or our o-line might have some troubles against Nix and co. in week 2. The DTs were getting in the backfield very quickly on most of those run plays. Not 100% sold on Miller, he looked pretty visibly upset, so maybe he was having an off night.

-Devin had ZERO running plays... I'm always going to worry that he's going to get hurt, but still, every time Denard took off and started running up the middle I tensed up (yes I was tense A LOT). Never felt nervous when Henne or Navarre were back there (then again, they have no athletic ability whatsoever compared to Devin).

-Glasgow running with the 1s. Is he beating Braden? Do the coaches realize Braden is the only tackle with the capability of setting in for the starters and performing well and want to keep him as a reserve guard instead?

-Dymonte made the biggest play of any of the freshmen.

-I saw #4 around the ball many times. I still wish I saw Ryan, but I liked how visible Cam was.

-Green needs to lose weight. I know Jackson and Borges said they're not concerned with his weight, but what are they going to say to the media. There are very few 5'-11" RBs that carry 240 well, and maybe he's one of them, but I can guarantee he'd play better at 225-230.

-Saw a lot of Reynolds, Hayes, Fitz, and Biggs, maybe I need to watch it again, but I didn't see much Morgan/Bolden, Thomas Gordon, Funchess, or Gallon. Then again, it's just a scrimmage.

You can guarantee that Green would play better at 225-230? That's a bold statement and I also think everyone is as expected over analyzing 2 minutes of scrimmage film and a play or two by one player way too much. That being said, from watching these 2 minutes I am convinced we will go undefeated and win the BCS title.
