CT coach Wilcher is NOT happy with Meyer, Ohio State

Submitted by Auerbach on

"I think Urban Meyer will have to step his game up; we're going to have to talk," Cass Tech football coach Thomas Wilcher told Detroit Sports 105.1 on Friday. "He has come to my school and got the No. 1 athlete two years in a row.

"You cannot come over here, come up to the north and walk out of here with your pockets full and not give us respect.

"That's not gonna happen again, I can tell you that right now."

Wilcher told 105.1 he has talked to Weber several times, and that Weber is not happy at all.

Wilcher was asked by 105.1 host Matt Dery if Weber would be sticking with Ohio State, and he wouldn't say that.

He said Weber is talking things over with his family and figuring out what his options our [sic].

I live in Columbus, and the local guys are talking about it now.  It's also all over the internet.  I think if Weber wants out, all he has to do is say so.

How does this impact Ohio State recruiting Cass Tech in the future? Is your opinion on Urban Meyer and Ohio State different? I am going to say this right here: I think the most important thing I've taken from this right here is that when you have a player that is upset and he's from one of the schools you're trying to have a stronghold at, and you're doing a great job so far, you want to try to keep people close and keep close relationships and are always working on those relationships.

I have not heard from (Meyer) since then. He may not feel that I am important, he may not feel that Cass Tech is important and he may not feel like how he treats these kids up north is important. All we should worry about is that they go to Ohio State. I don't know how he feels, but that's my understanding because he hasn't tried to call me at all. So I don't know.

The way this issue doesn't happen in the future is for Michigan to win a bunch of games and not give any reason for MI kids to even consider OSU.

if OSU drags this out. Because, one of things his coach stated, was that he didn't want to live in Michigan and hear "I told you so"

So, if OSU releases him, I don't think its as "Weber to Michigan" as people may think

I agree. Just my opinion, but I think Weber's gone, whether he remains a Buckeye or goes elsewhere (hopefully not East Lansing). I still think he's a great kid and would love to have him, but my gut just says that ship has sailed, as far as Michigan is concerned (I'd be happy to be wrong, though). The best outcome now is for Meyer and OSU to come out of this looking as shitty as possible.

Not that I want OSU to get "better" at being slimeballs....but why did they make the announcement immediately after the NSD?  I mean....could they not see all this outrage coming?  Things probably would've been a bit different had they announced this a few weeks later  (albeit still disgustingly unethical) .

1. Because the deal was done between the RB coach and the Bears

2. The coach was ready to leave

3. It would have looked worse to hide it

4. You can't hide it when you need to hire a new RB coach

Which makes it seem all the more slimy. They knew the coach was out the door, but asked him to keep quiet until NSD.

First of all, I don't feel bad for Weber at all. He chose OSU over Michigan. Regardless of the reasons, even though he used a poor excuse (my opinion), he wanted to go to Columbus and play for Urban Meyer. Meyer is well known for his lying and slimy antics. This, should come as no shock to anyone. Whether or not Weber stays or goes, this is a plus for Michigan. It's a strike at a pipeline school that both universities are gunning for. Let's just say, round 1 to the good guys. #GoBlue

You forgot part of the Wilcher quote - "I want Urban brought right here, with a big ribbon on his head, and I want to look him straight in the eye and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit he is!Hallelujah! Holy shit! Where’s the Tylenol?"

The north remembers, Coach Meyer. The north remembers, and the mummer’s farce is almost done.

and it's a psychological coup for Meyer.  Top player in Michigan picked the buckeyes.  And guess what, the kid finds out Meyer is a snake oil salesman.  All that glitters isn't gold in C-bus, what a shock.  Live and learn.  The question is why would M want Weber back?  Actually this should play well in the future when Michigan kids think about going to OSU. Simply remind them of how bucky screwed Weber.

Urbs doesn't need this negative publicity. He got caught in his slime and now has to release Weber, if he really wants it.

In this whole over drama, Weber seems naive about competition,  immature (I know he is a 17 year old) and also doesn't want to hurt anyones feelings.

While he may turn out to be a great running back, I'm not convinced he will be. If he comes to UM that would be great, but if stays at OSU I wish him well.

The best thing for us is that URbs now has a ton of new bad PR in the PSL.

- Weber is a good player, but I don't think he's a "must get" prospect by any means (and most RB's aren't, btw). So I don't really care whether he ends up at Michigan or not, just hope he ends up wherever he's most comfortable/happy at. I root for Detroit kids to be successfull, regardless of where they end up.

- Long term, this will absolutely be used as a pitch to local kids (Cass especially) on why they shouldn't head south. And its absolutely going to work. With Wilcher & various Michigan coaches preaching this in these kids ear, this is going to be a hard one for them to overcome.

- As a native Detroiter myself, I'm sorry, I just couldn't see myself ever wanting to play at OSU (or in Ohio in general) if I ever had the option because of shit like this: https://twitter.com/GerdOZone/status/563166114419834880 < read that first comment. I don't know if that comment is vaguely racist or not, but its obvious a lot of them don't think highly of us down there.

I have always maintained that the NCAA should allow a 1 time, 1st year waiver for any player who wants to leave a school that he/she committed to, who's coach has left.

There are not many BIG fans or coaches that aren't aware that OSU is attempting to duplicate the practices of the SEC. They are considered SEC North by many, and in some cases this makes them attractive.  For a high school coach from the great state of MI and an alumnus from same I'd be very concerned with the young men I sent there.

Meyer will brain wash him again. Weber doesn't seem to be very intelligent either. His grammar is awful on twitter.
