CT coach Wilcher is NOT happy with Meyer, Ohio State

Submitted by Auerbach on

"I think Urban Meyer will have to step his game up; we're going to have to talk," Cass Tech football coach Thomas Wilcher told Detroit Sports 105.1 on Friday. "He has come to my school and got the No. 1 athlete two years in a row.

"You cannot come over here, come up to the north and walk out of here with your pockets full and not give us respect.

"That's not gonna happen again, I can tell you that right now."

Wilcher told 105.1 he has talked to Weber several times, and that Weber is not happy at all.

Wilcher was asked by 105.1 host Matt Dery if Weber would be sticking with Ohio State, and he wouldn't say that.

He said Weber is talking things over with his family and figuring out what his options our [sic].

Weber may not come here but OSU fans will be on him for the next 4 years because of this. Amazing what 1 tweet from a high schooler can do. If he tweeted "I am all buckeye. The program is more than 1 man 1 coach" or something similar this is not a story.

This 100 times over. This is why so many Michigan fans had issue with Weber....not that he chose OSU... but it was basically a parting shot on top of the commitment. There were so MANY other things he could of said but chose not to. I know, he's only 17. Well I personally have delt with younger who knew how to hold their tongue better than Weber , doing his "little pout and foot stomping" dog and pony show on NSD.

Like the one poster below me.... he should just get off social media. He is making things worse by keep opening his mouth. Not that I have issue with Urbbie getting bad publicity...I'm all for it, but the kid's next 5 years and potential NFL career is at stake....he has some major choices ahead of him and he doesn't need to be distracted by all this.

Seriously.  Constructive advice here.

Since he is "hurt", I hope he finds a better situation elsewhere (likely outside of the B1G due to the two-year intra-conference transfer sit rule).

But those thoughts are something that can be considered in private.  It doesn't do anything to help his cause, at least at that mild "complaining" level.  (He may have to go nuclear if OSU doesn't release him at first.)

GO WILCHER GO! You know, he and Jim were teammates. Ban them from recruiting Cass like Matt Colburn's coach did to Petrino.

Urban Meyer today at a conference said to the media that he wasn't even sure if Drayton was leaving for the Chicago Bears. What a snake. What a liar. Uncle Urb you were caught just admit your lie and move on.

It really sucks for Weber and the UCLA defensive recruits, but it's hard to get on the high horse when UM essentially did the same thing last year.

2/5/14 National Signing Day

2/8/14 Al Borges gets fired.

By all accounts Wilton Speight had a close relationship with Borges.   All the offensive players thought they'd be playing for Gorgeous.  It's hard to believe that the decision to fire Al was made after NSD.  That plan had to be in place internally prior.

EDIT:  Don't know why the body of this post didn't show up.  Retyped here.

I knew this had happened to Speight because I remember reading a quote from Speight's mom -- which I cannot find for the life of me -- who wasn't so happy with how it went down.

That said here's what happened.  Borges was Speight's lead recruiter and Speight had a close relationship with him.  Some in the previous thread asserted that Speight should have known a change was coming since everyone knew that Borges was getting fired.  But keep in mind as late as December Hoke was on record saying that there would be no changes to the staff.  It was not a foregone conclussion that Borges was getting fired.

Wilton was an Early Enrolee and signed/enrolled on Jan 6th.  Two days later UM announced Borges firing.  It is highly unlikely the firing was first contemplated on Jan 7th.

Jan 6th  Wilton Enrolls Early   (Along with other O-players Canteen, Harris, and Cole)

Jan 8th Borges Fired  (first day of class for Wilton, Canteen, Harris and Cole)

Wilton Did Not Know - Article indicating Wilton didn't know it was coming.

See links above.  Given that Hoke was publicly declaring the staff wouldn't change it would be a surprise.  See link above for Speights quote.  He appears to have been surprised.

The point remains the same.  Plenty of programs get the kids signed and on the books with an LOI and then announce changes.  Michigan has done this as well.  Look up when Terry Malone, left UM in 2006.  I believe it was 2 days after national signing day.  It was within the week.

I'm with Brian and think that they shouldn't sign LOI's and just sing the grant in aid paperwork....

and I'm talking about both OSU/Meyer and Weber.  OSU seems to have failed to share a material fact with the Weber family.  On the other hand, did he commit to a guy or to a Program/HC/University?

Would be a tough call to take this kid if he wanted to flip to U of M (and they let him).   I wonder what Brionte Dunn would say about this?

I am sure karma is after them since they won the NC.. Osu is the top dog and everyone wants and is going to want to play for them so weber leaving or cass tech not welcoming them back is not the end of the world..plus is cass tech, when waa the last time their players made a difference in college

due to the B1G's intra-league transfer rule, so I think it would be better for him to go elsewhere.

That 2-year restriction is just draconian (when coaches are free to go as they please), so I don't think coming to Michigan would be in Weber's best interest now.
