CT coach Wilcher is NOT happy with Meyer, Ohio State

Submitted by Auerbach on

"I think Urban Meyer will have to step his game up; we're going to have to talk," Cass Tech football coach Thomas Wilcher told Detroit Sports 105.1 on Friday. "He has come to my school and got the No. 1 athlete two years in a row.

"You cannot come over here, come up to the north and walk out of here with your pockets full and not give us respect.

"That's not gonna happen again, I can tell you that right now."

Wilcher told 105.1 he has talked to Weber several times, and that Weber is not happy at all.

Wilcher was asked by 105.1 host Matt Dery if Weber would be sticking with Ohio State, and he wouldn't say that.

He said Weber is talking things over with his family and figuring out what his options our [sic].

Sort of. He could also transfer right now and just sit out a year. But, even if he does get released, he would still have to figure out where to go instead. Most schools are all out of scholarships/roster spots now with signing day having passed.

somewhere.  At the very least, someone, somewhere will suffer a career ending injury in Spring practice.  More likely, some coach just ups their expected attrition by one.

And, of course, there is the SEC.

That they had spoken ( Meyer, Drayton and Weber) and that weber is fine and plans to stick with OSU. Fact is every kid out there needs to accept that this could happen anywhere, at anytime. The coaches do not owe these kids anything but the truth. And IF, and that's a big IF, Drayton was not offered the job till Thursday then as unfortunate as this situation is nobody did anything they should feel bad about. Also something I think is important is that Weber has not made any statements that say he was lied to, or deceived. I have no doubt he is going to stay at OSU and put this down as a hard lesson on how the business of football actually works. I also think that because of the high profile of this story, if Weber publicly says he wants out of his LOI that he will be released. I would not be surprised if he hasn't already been told that by OSU. Weber is a luxury for OSU, not a need. UM getting Weber would fill a need, OSU is not in that same position, especially at RB

Not offered the job until Thursday? No one outside of 11Warriors believes that. Coaches like Wilcher do not believe that. Nice try?

Here is the podcast - might as well throw it in the OP.

This might have more affect down the road than in Weber's case - I believe Ginn SR kept UM out of Glenville for a long period.  We'll see -it's the heat of the moment and emotions are high, in 3 months it wont be that way.   Not that he will forgot what happened.

This is turning into ta similar  situation as Petrino at Louisville who has been banned from the school in South Carolina for withdrawling a scholarship late in the process, who was committed 8 months ago! I like how Wilcher stood up for his player and added leverage to this.

I said this before, Meyer is not even going to use Weber. He just blew smoke up his ass so that he wouldn't come to Michigan. They did the same with B Dunn and look where he's at now!!!!

b/c a month or so ago i was wondering what happened w/ Dunn b/c he was invisible all season and against UM, and then the news that he's leaving

i like your theory and would believe that's an urban thing to do

i wish i could say it will matter in the long run, but i don't think it will

Regardless of what i think of meyer, he's objectively an incredible coach and a great recruiter and studs will always want to play for him; osu will always be very good to great under meyer

the best we can hope for is that Harbaugh brings us back to that level or close to it, which seems reasonably likely and an incredible prospect in light of how far the program has sunk

will be turning Michigan around immediately. But I also believe that he will not be drawn into a fight over this recruitment battle. This was a test of recruiting wills and unfortunately this young man got caught in the middle. No matter what, Weber faces a lot of competition going to Michigan or Ohio.

thing to assume. Weber will get the chance to show what he has got, and if he is the best on the feild he will play, if not he won't. Dunn has not played much because Carlos Hyde, Zeke, and Curtis Samuel are better, on and off the field. Make no mistake, UM would use him with more certainty. But only because UM doesn't have the stable of backs at OSU. But if he is clearly the better back that will be seen and he will play. If not then he won't. The real question is why did Weber choose a school with so much existing talent, not to mention they have the commitment of the No.1 RB of 2016. This situation seems like a big gamble. I'm really surprised UM didn't come out on top with Weber. Seems to be a much more predictable outcome. I guess when it get down to the nitty gritty the lure of playing for a coach and team that wins year in and year out was just to strong for a program like UM to overcome. Can't blame a kid for wanting to win.

Bri'onte Dunn was given the ball as a freshman a lot and allowed a complete chance to compete for the starting job. He couldn't beat out Carlos Hyde (because duh) and then he couldn't beat out Ezekiel Elliott (because duh). If OSU oversigns like everyone here says, do you really think they'd waste a super valuable scholarship just to take a player they don't plan on using to stick it to Michigan? That's crazy talk. The best players play. Poor Dunn happened to be a B+ player stuck behind two A+s.

...Weber still believes Meyer's comments about splitting carries with Elliot in the CFB?

Do you think Mike Weber trusts that comment?

Did Vanderdoes have any extenuating circumstance in his case?  Or did he just flat change his mind?  If the latter, I'd have to believe if Weber took this to the mat, the bait and switch in this situation would favor his side greatly.  Granted, we're a long, long way from that type of consideration.
